i was in a car accident where my macbook was in a case, in a bad in my back seat. and it shattered the screen. of course my care protection plan wont cover it. so i have a external monitor that i am trying to use to navigate the computer. with the correct adapter.
i was hoping there is a way to detect and use the monitor....
this would be extremely easy if i could actually see the computer screen on my laptop... but the entire thing is solid white because of the crack. so i need keyboard shortcuts, or some way to control my computer using my macbook pro connected through firewire.
i wish i would have set up the file sharing, and remote management sharing before the accident. would have come in handy now. but i didn't.
Problem exists on MacBook Pro (15", Late 2008) and MacBook Air (11", Late 2010) using a mini-displayport -> VGA adapter. When an external monitor (Dell E177FP) is connected it is recognized but appears as a "VGA Display". No problems with usage, however when the mac is put to sleep the monitor sees it as a no signal situation and displays its built in test instead of going into powersave mode. When I first hooked up the monitor I was using an old cable that was most likely damaged (screen was showing alot of artifacts) but this problem did not occur and the display slept fine. I then bought a new Belkin 6' VGA cable and have had this problem ever since. Â
I compared the two cables and noticed the new one had the #9 pin, where the old had just a blank. Thinking maybe this old monitor didn't like to have the 5V coming in I modified (Read: ripped out pin #9) my new cable to no avail. Â

I've got Windows 7 RC 64-bit installed on a 2.53 GHz MacBook Pro (dual boot using Boot Camp) with an ExpressCard slot. I also got a FileMate SolidGO 3FMS4D48M-WR 48GB ExpressCard SSD; the drive works beautifully under OS X, but is not recognized at all by Windows 7 when it's in the ExpressCard slot. In Device Manager, the yellow caution icon appears in front of the Standard ACHI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. The drive does not show under Disk drives or in Disk Manager.
The corresponding Device Status message is: "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code 12). If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system." The drive is recognized as SATA under Mac OS X and also works fine in Windows when plugged into a USB port instead of the ExpressCard slot (at which point it is not treated as SATA, but USB). I've tried the latest Boot Camp drivers, but that has no effect.
I just bought a new MacBook pro 1 week old. I partioned my hard drive and installed a clean copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on one side. I then downloaded skype, but my internal microphone will not work. I tried everything. Can someone help me out with this issue.

It's running great, I really like it, but here's my problem. Windows and all applications can see the iSight camera, but not the Microphone. If I go into the Sound control panel and click on the Recording tab, the microphone is there, and when I say something I can see that Windows DOES see it, but no other application shows it. I have all the Boot Camp drivers installed.

It plugs into the line-in part on my gf's MBP (the one next to the headphone port, right?), and i choose "Line-In" from the sound preference pane... but it's still using the internal mic when recording on garageband. I also remember trying to record with my guitar plugged into the comp, and that didn't work either.

I have a Pyle preamp microphone setup that I would like to run through my Macbook Pro 17. It has a USB port on the front of the preamp, can i just plug that in to the Macbook and change the mic settings? My external mike (Samson C01U, USB connection) isn't working; there's no input sound coming through. I'm certain it's not a hardware problem with the mike On preferences > sound, there's no sign of any input (with input volume level turned right up). Trying to record on Camtasia / Audacity / Quicktime also isn't giving any input.

Mic doesn't seem to work at all. On Skype or on Sound Recorder that comes with Windows XP. I have done a lot of searches on the net and tried a lot of advice offered including some from this forum - reinstall driver, tick boxes, until boxes, scale up, etc. Its a 2008 iMac with XP SP3 installed on Snow Leopard. the driver is from Realtek. I have an important meeting to do on skype while having to run Windows application.

It appears in the Sound menu in the control panel as a working audio input and sound recorder works perfectly as well. However, whenever I select the microphone in Skype, there is no sound. The mic comes up as a Cirrus Logic CS4206A(AB75) device. Again sound recorder is fine, its just Skype that won't get any input from the mic. I also tried this earlier in Windows 7 RC1 64 bit with no luck. Does anyone know how to use Skype in Boot Camp with the new MacBook Pro hardware?

I think the problem lays in the internal microphone (and the driver that doesn't seem to work)? When I listen to the same song on the iphone, I get a very clear sound. Can anyone do this for me? Can you listen to "Speak to me/Breathe" by Pink Floyd on your headphones / earphones if you have that track? Along with the first few heartbeats, I hear squeaking noises. Do you hear anything like that?
This squeaking noise could also happen sometimes when I am minimizing / maximizing windows, or doing something processor intensive.
I want to know if anyone can point out the advantages and disadvantages of using a line-in microphone (for the 1/8" analog jack) compared to a USB microphone for a Mac Pro. Do I need some kind of amplification for a head-set microphone with a 1/8 analog jack? I can't get mine to work, but I wonder if there's something I haven't selected correctly in my Preferences.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time I've tried using my built-in iSight since the 10.6.5 update, and on any site I've tried it, it doesn't show USB Video Class Video, the correct option, as a selectable option. Nor is DV Video and option. Only Built-In iSight, and two "Google" cams, none of which work. Actually, on Tinychat, Built-In iSight works for the thumbnail for picking the cam option, but won't work once selected. But that's always been the case; the proper option won't show as a thumb but works fine once selected. I hope I'm making sense.
Any solutions? Adobe says I'm running version 10,1,102,64.
Update: It seem either uninstalling Google's video and audio adapters </Library/Application Support/Google/GoogleVoiceandVideoUninstaller.app> or installing a beta version of Flash [URL] solves the issue.
I'm having major problems with airport. It seems that lately its become less and less effective at detecting wireless networks. I need to be sitting a few feet away from a router for my macbook (10.4.11) to detect it. This occurs with all networks. I never had this problem until the past year and its seemed to get progressively worse. I'm not sure if this is a confrontational or hardware issue.

Anyways, I have it plugged into the TV so I thought to myself, 'why not plug it into my surround set as well?' I went ahead and plugged my stereo receiver into my Mac Pro's Optical Out port, but the Pro doesn't seem to be detecting my stereo, as I cannot select the digital audio as a device for sound output. So, in the meantime, I am stuck with 2.1 through the line out jack.

However my new mac can't detect the vidcam, it does however detect when the vidcam is plugged in, however it only recognizes it as a usb type device not as a vidcam. So I phoned apple and asked for assistance, they suggested updating the software(which i did). This however did not help, as the vidcam is still just a "memory space". I can access the videos but they are in MTS format, which is not supported in final cut studio and I would prefer to work directly from the vidcam and not use a video converter to convert them first. So basically to put it in one sentence how do I get my mac to recognize my sony hdr sr12 video camera, as a camera and not a unknown usb type device.
