Software :: Wireless Router / Can't Connect IP Address Or Configurations
Aug 4, 2008
I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router (v. 6), a brand new iMac (Intel, OS 10.5.4), and an older iBook (G3, OS 10.3.9). I can configure the router using the iBook with no problems. Afterwards, the iBook shows an IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router under the iBook's Network Preferences. The iMac detects the wifi network I set up using the iBook (for example, "mywifi") but cannot obtain an IP address or other configurations. Sometimes the iMac says Airport has a self-assigned IP address but can't get on the Internet, sometimes it says it has no IP address. I have removed all WPA securities/encryptions to simplify the process, but the iMac still can't see the router. I tried to ping the router from the iMac and no packages were received, 100% loss.

I have AT&T Uverse. They give me a Wirless router that runs all of the phones, T.Vs, and internet in the house. I have an Airport Express that I want to connect through an ethernet port to the AT&T router. Its a 2Wire 3800. I've read up a lot on how you need to set up the DHCP and Static IPs and stuff, but I just cant get it to work.

I have a Macbook Air Rev.C 1.86GHz and just yesterday, it stopped connecting to my D-Link wireless router. There have not been any updates applied to the router or the Mac recently, nor have I installed any apps to the Mac either. My iPhone sees and connects to the router fine, as does my MSI netbook, and my TabletPC too. I have turned the router off numerous times in trying to troubleshoot this, and only for a minute or two, does the Mac see the router and connect getting an IP. It then loses the connection shortly after. I have turned off the Mac's Airport a number of times, I have reset the SMB (I think, using the ctrl/shift/option/Power button while off, letting go, then pressing the Power Button only).

I've always had problems connecting to the Internet but last night my iMac refused to connect to the Internet. Everyone else in my house can connect to the Router but for some reason I can't - I try going through the network diagnostics for Airport and the first 2 steps turn green, but the rest remain red. It keeps changing from 'No IP Address' to something about a self-adressed IP address. I went into my network utilities and it appears that I don't have an IP address (according to that)? Right now it's just impossible to connect to the Internet.

I have a 2.4 Gh Aluminum iMac running OSX 10.5.6. I connect to the internet via Windstream and a Speedstream 4200 DSL modem. I am trying to connect a Netgear WNR2000 Wireless-N Router to the system but even after I go through all of the power up sequence as described in the user manual, I can not connect to the internet with the router connected to the iMac and modem. I can not access the router through the iMac either. All of the lights on the router that are suppose to be on are indeed on, although the ethernet light on the router is orange instead of blue like the rest of the lights. I called Netgear technical support and that was the most painful and fruitless tech support call of my life (I'm not sure if the tech support person had ever seen a Mac let alone know how to troubleshoot one). how to get this router to work with my iMac and DSL modem?

I've updated my wireless rounter and also decided to not have it broadcast the network.I can connect to the router no problem by using the option "connect to other network".I also have the box checked that says, remember this network, but my macbook doesn't automatically reconnect after it sleeps or when I turn it off. Would love to understand how to make my macbook automatially reconnect so I don't have to go through the extra steps of reloggin on each time.

I have done everything contained in this link to make my Mac a wireless router. We are connected to the internet via ethernet.http://maketecheasier.com/create-wif...s-x/2009/10/20I just purchased a piece of crap Android tablet that I absolutely hate, but cannot return. I was able to wirelessly connect to a local linsky connection, but it has since disappeared. I am now making every attempt to enable the Airport on our Mac so that I can actually use this garbage Android tablet. The tablet I am using is a Next2 (garbage, don't waste your money).

The wireless network I want to join runs through a Wnet R300 router with a 3.5G simcard wireless internet connection. My MacBook will not connect, while all other devices (Kindle, Nokia phone, Mac Mini, etc.) will. I have changed the wireless security on the router from WEP to WPA2 and still no luck. What settings do I need to change?Â

After extensive Googling, I need to take a break, and find out if someone with more experience knows what I can try next...
I'm not the best when it comes to Networks, or even router configuration. I'll just put that out there, in case I've missed something obvious.
My router connection (DLink 2640B) was working perfectly fine before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now I cannot connect to any wireless network, and I cannot connect to the router administration page, either
(192.168.1.1).
The internet connection still works fine on two other laptops. Also, I can connect this iMac via the ethernet cable.
I've tried deleting the files NetworkInterfaces.plist, com.apple.network.identification.plist, and preferences.plist; I've tried rebooting my router; I've tried creating a new network. Airport sees all the networks, tries to connect, then it just says that it fails.

I have a Linksys Wireless Router and a Linksys Modem, the router is 6 years old or so 802.11b, how much faster would the Internet be if I had a combined Linksys wireless router/modem versus the 802.11b that I have now?
Would I see a huge difference? I am running my Macbook off it and an olde Toshiba laptop.

I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.

I have an airport extreme base station (wireless n draft). problem is, my room is all the way in the back and i get poor reception. Can i just buy another standard $40 wireless G router and "extend" my wireless network? if so, how easy would this be to accomplish? would it be as simple as hooking up the $40 router with my airport extreme using via ethernet cable so that it extends it? update: I am looking at this router...would this accomplish my purpose? I just built a PC that actually works. However, I was really cheap and didn't wanna buy a wireless access card, thinking I could connect to an extra router and use this router to connect to my other router that's network enabled. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? I tried googling it, but I dunno what this is called.

I live in a two story home, with the only ethernet port located on the ground floor. I like to play PS3 online, so I connect it directly to my router on the bottom floor. I would like to be able to move the playstation upstairs, as the tv is much better, but theres no ethernet port. Is there a way to use my MacBook Pro as a wireless access point for a PS3 without having to connect anything directly into a port?
