Apr 30, 2012I purchased a GoFlex Desk for Mac with the FW800 adapter. No issues with stability or performance.The only thing that is weird is related to deletion of files:
1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work
2) Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a warning that "This cannot be undone", and it's doing a permanent delete rather than moving it to trash.I've verified that I'm not using any Seagate drivers, and the drive shows up as the "Orange" generic external drive.

Dec 5, 2009I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! I'm afraid that I am going to inadvertently empty trash and lose my entire Drobo's contents! I need to figure out how to undo or put back ... come on Apple. Why'd you make this so difficult?

When I try to delete a file by right-clicking and choose "move to trash" I get a message telling me that the item will be deleted permanently and that I cannot undo this action. In other words it is possible to delete a file permanently, but I would like to have the option to move them to the trash first. I have recently tried to partition the internal hard-drive using Boot Camp, however unsuccessfully. I don't know if the two are related. The pop-up message says the item is currently being used by another task, even though I have tried closing all applications, restarting, checking my startup to make sure nothing activates. I think these were downloads that were in progress when Internet Explorer crashed, but they are not in the download manager anymore either. How can I delete these desktop items?

Apr 1, 2012I have waht appear to be a profile specific issue that prevents me from moving files from a 2nd drive in my machine to the trash when using my standard profile.Â
I to to my 2nd internal drive and when I drag a file to the trash it asks me "Are you sure you want to delete "xxxxx.jpg"Â The item will be deleted immediately, You can't undo this action. If I click OK the item is delted and does not do to the trash. It aks liek is is an external drive, not an internal driveÂ
But when I delete a file from my Macintosh HD drive the item goes to the trash as it should. Â
If I log into my Admin account, the files from the second internal drive moves to the trash normally. I have set my normal login from standard to admin and it stil has the issue, I also have run disk utility and disk warrior and rebuilt the directory, but it has not changed the problemÂ

Jul 1, 2012I have read all the comments reference removal of Firefox, it doesn't move. I CLICK ON launch Pad, move to the Firefox app, grab it and move it to the trash; the basket expands as it should but the App will not go in; it shoots straight back up to the Grid Position.I've opened the App looking for Locks, Permissions and so on but it just will not go. Even when it is in the Dock and moved over the Trash it doesn't give the warning that it is in use.... it just doesn't want to know.

Jul 8, 2008This may sound simple, and I did search the forums. One thread suggested holding down "Option", that did nothing. "Command" "control" or any combination of the Three also did nothing. Another Thread gave a program called "Force Empty Trash". It is only tested on 10.3 or something, I run Tiger 10.4. I Ran the program anyway, and the Trash emptied, but then the Phantom Files Returned. The files in question are Corrupted iTunes music folders that had nothing in them, but I couldn't access them. "File Cannot Be Read Or Written I Tried Deleting them, and most moved to Trash -- one was stubborn. A Repair of Disk Permissions Made it enter the Trash Bin -- and that is where they Remain. I rebooted, and attempted an Empty, but It tells me "File Is In Use" despite the fact that; A: iTunes is closed, and B: It was part of a different iTunes Library (I moved, and re-added everything after dealing with the corrupt folders) So now I am at a Loss as to how to get rid of these files. They are not locked, and are set for me to "Read & write" in the Permissions. Is there a program that would Tell me what Processes are linked to the folders? What could still be accessing them? I was told maybe I have a Virus, if so, what are the best up-to-date OS X Virus scanners?

Mar 28, 2009I'm new to Mac and am trying to move a slew of files from my PC in preparation for a total switch. In this case, I had two folders with numerous subfolders that I wanted to make available on my iMac G5 (Leopard). I copied the folders to CDs, then transferred them to the Mac. But now I'm unable to write to those folders/subfolders. Apparently, my permission is restricted to "read only." When I go to Finder, then Get Info and try to change the permission, Mac will not recognize my administrator's password. The folders/subfolders were not password protected on the PC so I don't know what password Mac is looking for. I need full access to these files (R/W) on the Mac.

Apr 4, 2012I am no longer able to move files via Finder or on my Desktop. When I click on a file, it is selected and the name of the file is high lighted in blue. I can move it around the screen but it is "stuck" to the cursor. When I let go of the mouse button, the file remains stuck to the cursor and sometimes, I can interact with various elements, i.e. buttons, etc. as if the file had never been selected, yet its icon remains attached to the cursor. After a while, the icon will disappear.I have tried restarting, shutting down and restarting and repairing permissions without success.Also, looks like auto-correction and spelling is no longer working either as it doesn't recognize misspelled words anymore.

Aug 12, 2010Running 10.6.4 on a 27" iMac 3.06 GHz C2D. I was irritated by sometimes not being able to empty items from my trash(message that file was in use when it wasn't). I found on lancelhoff.com a command for terminal(cd ~/.Trash && sudo rm -rf ) followed by directory/filename which allowed these pesky files to be deleted which worked great. I was showing my manager the trick I'd found and while doing so, it stopped deleting the files.
Now when I put items in the trash I get a message 'Are you sure you want to delete "xxxx.yyy"? This item will be deleted immediately. You can't undo this action" instead of putting it in the trash. The files I was trying to delete when I was doing my doomed demo will not delete even after a restart. I did a fix permissions on my drive with Disk Utility which was no help in this regard.
Hardware :: Unable To Eject Flash Drive / Not Deleting Files From Trash?
Sep 7, 2009I have a flash drive that I use a good bit, but recently it's started doing this thing where it won't eject. Even force ejects hang and I literally have to restart the computer to get the message to go away.
It also has issues deleting files. Perfect example, I just plugged it in, dragged one file to the trash, didn't do anything else, and when I try to empty the trash it says that file is in use when it definitely is not. Then, giving up on that I try to eject the drive and it won't.
I'd say it won't eject about 3/4 of the time. Other drives are fine, so it's not something I'm doing, and it does it on every computer I try, so it's not just my computer in particular.Any ideas what might be causing this?

May 28, 2012I was doing a major cleanup with an external Seagate USB HDD due to low free disk spaces. It has two partitions/drives: FAT32 (using it for on other non-Apple machines like Windows 2000 SP4) and HFS [Time Machine only]). I threw about 30,000 items (copied from an old Windows 2000 SP4 machine's HDD with NTFS back a few years ago) from FAT32 partition/drive into the trash can. However, I am having problems emptying it.
Most of them were emptied, but some were left behind. This four years old MacBook Pro's Mac OS X 10.5.8's Trash dialog boxes said "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." and "Emptying the Trash cannot be completed because "<filename>" is locked. To empty everything in the Trash, including locked items, press the Options key while selecting Empty Trash".

So I unlocked them which worked, but I can't delete the empty folders/directories, and these don't have locked. What's going on and how do I empty the trash?
