I have a Macbook pro and when I turn on the computer the message: "NO bootable devices, insert a boot disk and press any key" appears. I click the button "alt" and I choose the option Macintosh HD and the computer works. But I can't do this procedure always. This problem started after install the Paragon software to save my files on the external hd. How can I fix that?

I made a backup image file of D2 LOD and im trying to install it again but the installer keeps telling me that i need to insert disc. So my question is, how do i mount this image so that the installer can use it.
Clarification: I lost the original cd so i just have this backed up image, so the image is legit.I just wanted to play this game and i dont wanna have to go buy the disk again.

Yesterday I switched on my macbook (Leopard) and got the flashing question mark. Ran all the resets and booted with disk utility which encountered an 'Invalid B-tree Node' when attempting to repair the disk. Additionally, the SMART status was verified.
I ran DW 4 last night, and performed the hardware tests which reported that the disk was operating like normal. The majority of my media files and additional work is backed up to my Time Capsule but I still have a folder of papers that are relatively new, and wanted to retrieve. While DW managed to reconstruct the majority of my drive (there seemed to be 15g missing - but it's just music files) including this folder, it couldn't replace the disk, as it encountered 'Serious Disk Malfunctions'.
So, via the Disk Preview I want to transfer my saved folders to my TC, but I don't appear to be able to locate it (via ethernet) through DW - even if it's connected when I boot up in DW. So, first request is: Can I connect to my TC to transfer across in DW's preview?
Second is: What are my options if DW can't replace? Do I need to take it into Apple and get a new HD (it's out of warranty)? It's possibly worth noting that I'm a student and have absolutely no money - so cost effective options are a bonus!

I partitioned windows XP onto my Mac HD a few days ago. It worked beautifully until last night. Whenever I booted to it, it stuck at the welcome screen for 10 minutes, and was really buggy upon startup. This morning, my MacBook Pro (bought in August '09) upon turning on automatically boots to windows XP. No amount of holding "c" or "Alt" will bring up rEFIt or boot camp selection pane. And the kicker is, the windows XP partition is completely corrupted.
Here's what happens now:
1) Turn Macbook Pro on, hold down "c" or "Alt"
2) White background for ~ten minutes, nothing happens
3) After a long time, boots to black screen and says "Startup Disk Error... Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
I'm pretty sure its trying to boot to Windows XP partition, because Ctrl+Alt+Del is not a Mac OS X command... But I can't boot to my Mac OS X partition.

I tried to on my mac this morning and just like usual, the "chime" when off and the gray screen with the apple logo came out together with the spinning gear.
However today, it took longer than usual on the spinning gear and my mac osx did not startup and my mac switched off automatically.
I then tried to boot my mac osx in safe mode(+verbose) and I got the following error:

Lately (started this morning), I've been getting some weird startup problems during startup. When pressing the start button, the fans spin to the max endlessly, most of the time the screen stays black without the Apple chime and computer doesn't start. After three times of shutting it down, it usually starts but performance isn't quite the same and i immediately get this error.

I'm having issues setting up a Tri-boot system on my Macbook. I can't figure it out at all. I've created the partitions, and began installing XP. After the set up, the machine reboots to finish the install, but I get a 'disk error: press any key to reboot' error after the install. I am not installing though Bootcamp, and I have insured the drive is an NTFS drive, as that is reason the disk error usually appears.

1) Was running disk utility and said i have a corrupted disk
2) OSX runs fine but i can't reboot into startup disk in order to repair disk
3) Can only boot into OSX now by holding down Option key and selecting OSX
4) Can't use this method to boot into install disk or external drive.
Remedies, I have done the following:
1) Repaired permissions
2) SMC reset
3) PRAM reset
4) Wont allow me to safe boot
5) Won't allow me to boot from install disk
6) Won't install SL disk to try and repair install

I had my hard drive partitioned via bootcamp to run windows vista. I use software at work that isn't supported by Mac (it is now, but our version is old and it costs 10k to upgrade yada yada yada). One night I was playing around with the time machine feature (had the macbook for three years now never touched it, wish i hadn't) and accidentally told the time machine to use the partition made by bootcamp for windows to back up my mac. Well this messed everything up. Now that partition is gone (windows) and that volume is now called time machine backups. I have used some threads in here to try and remove that and nothing seems to work (most of the threads are from 2007 to 2008).
What I need help with is removing that time machine volume so that I can run bootcamp again to reinstall windows. When I attempt to run bootcamp right now it says "This startup disk is not supported." When I restart and hold option only the mac hd is available to choose. I also use(d) VMware Fusion to run Windows.

I have an Imac 17" Intel Core 2 Duo (5,1) 2ghz late 2006 model. Just recently the superdrive has perished for what ever reason & I have read that some times if you reinstall the original operating discs that came with the computer, the superdrive may or may not come back to life.
Leopard 10.5.8 with all the updates is the current set up on the imac & I want to put Tiger 10.4.7 back on it. So I'm connecting the Imac to my Mac pro 15.4" (late 2007 model - 2.2ghz 4gb ram intel core 2 duo) via firewire & use the Imac as a target disk. I put the install disc into my mac pro with the imac connected, power down - reboot holding 'C' to boot up the Tiger install disc. The apple logo & spinning wheel appear, but then the screen darkens & a 'You must turn off your computer or hold the power switch for a few seconds appears'
Now I've tried resetting the PRAM,NVRAM & SMC also decreasing the amount of RAM there is in the laptop. But the error is always the same? However if I put leopard 10.5.6 disc in that starts ok, snow leopard 10.6 that starts ok too. But tiger 10.4.7 & leopard 10.5.1 won't start at all? How can I get Tiger 10.4.7 back onto the imac using my mac pro?
Yes the only other way is to replace the superdrive, but I'm not in a position to get it replaced at the minute & if reinstalling the original operating discs rejuvenates the old superdrive, then there's no point.

I have a Western Digital 500gb external hard drive, with 2 partitions, 'KAINARC' and 'JUNGLEMAC', connected to my Intelmac (Tiger 10.4.11 via my firewire, i have connected via usb but the problem is still the same). I may have shut down the drive improperly to cause this situation.
KAINARC now appears on my desktop, but the partition of JUNGLEMAC does not. I go to disk utility and both partitions are visable, KAINARC is mounted but JUNGLEMAC is not. I cannot mount JUNGLEMAC.
When i try to verify and repair the partition I get the message:
Verify and Repair disk JUNGLEMAC
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 non HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
So I try to verify and repair the partition KAINARC but get this message:
Verify and Repair disk KAINARC
Repairing disk failed with error Could not unmount disk
So I have opened diskwarrior (unbelievably long time to start up and scan disks) in the hope of fixing the hard drive, but when i try to repair I get the error message 'unable to unmount KAINARC'.
I have tried other repair/recover programs but get the same message: 'Could not unmount disk KAINARC'. Im asuming that to fix the hard drive it has to be able to unmount KAINARC.

I am trying to do an archive and Install of OS X Leopard on a MBP but the installer won't allow me to do this.
I have tried the install by holding down the Option Key at bootup with the Leopard DVD in the drive. I follow all the options and then try to do an Archive and Install but when it gets to the screen with the Hard Drive icon it shows the Hard Drive icon with the Exclamation point in the yellow color. If I select options it tells me I have to erase the hard drive and do a fresh install of OS X.
I have also tried the install by booting into OS X and then selecting the OS X DVD icon and going through the same steps.
I have used Disk Utility and done both a verify and verify permissions but no errors at all are found. One odd issue is when I hold down the Option key at bootup it actually lists my internal hard drive twice. It appears everything is fine. Disk Utility finds now errors, shows it has the GUID partition table, and is formatted with OS X Journaled.
What started all of this is a couple weeks ago I started having Wi-Fi issues. Anywhere I connect to Wi-Fi it connects with the signal but I don't have internet. I'm not able to use Firefox, Safari, or Apple Mail. I posted earlier about this but was unable to fix this problem so eventually went to the Apple Genius Bar. They thought it was a simple issue and tried a couple procedures to renew IP or something like that and restoring some files. After none of that worked the guy then said it's something deeper in the OS and a Archive & Install is the best way to solve it.
When he tried this though it didn't work. He did a Verify in Disk Utility and found some hard drive errors so corrected them. Once this was done he did another Archive & Install and ran into the same problems I encountered.
Of course I'm still having this issue. His suggestion was to do the erase and said to first plug in my Time Machine Hard Drive, Do a Backup now, do the erase on the Hard Drive and reinstall Leopard, then he said Time Machine should prompt me to restore or something like that and will copy over all my stuff, documents, itunes music, dock settings, desktop, etc. Basically everything to put my computer back to where it was before. Now I do have a SuperDuper backup but since this is a mirror of the internal hard drive he said it would likely copy the problem back to my internal hard drive.
Is there a way to possibly do an archive & install? I prefer to go this route but don't know why it won't let me do it. If not, would the above suggested option with Time Machine solve this problem and would I lose any settings or data?
Another option I may try is I have Leopard on the Machine but have bought Snow Leopard. I haven't done the upgrade because one program I have, PGP, is not Snow Loepard compatible until the next version comes out. Since I haven't used PGP yet if necessary I am willing to uninstall it and install Snow Leopard but i'm not sure if the Snow Leopard upgrade will work and solve the Wi-Fi issue.

I run a computer business. My customer gave me a white macbook core duo. I upgraded to 2gigs of memory from 512mb. I then purchased a full copy of snow leapard and did a clean install. I setup garageband for the first time. This is all I want to use the computer for. I don't deal with macs in my business. I only work on windows. So, I thought this computer would be nice just to use to setup a small recording studio. I did everything by the book and now when I record I am getting the disk to slow error 10005. This happened after I recorded about five songs. I checked the we and it seems like this error has been around for years with frustration and no resolution. My question is this. Should I just buy another computer or waste my time trying to fix this error. I don't mean that in a bad way. Since this error has been around for so long, I don't to spend all my time working on the computer when I could be recording. What would you do?

I have been trying to backup a few .avi files I have onto DVDs and after reading over the forums I have aquired ffmpegx and Toast 8. I place the avi file into ffmpex, encode it with the dvdffmpeg format. But once i burn it with toast, it takes the original wide screen avi file and stretches it to full screen.
I tried re-encoding with the DVD 16:9 setting selected with ffmpeg and it seems to look better in a preview, but when I try and burn the Video_TS folder in Toast it gives me the CSS Encryption disk error, which I do not understand because I'm not copying a copyrighted dvd.

I received an Acomdata 2Tb external hard drive today from Amazon and plugged it in. Time Machine popped up and I declined to link the hard drive to it. I went into Disk Utility and chose the new hard drive on the left column and went to erase. I chose Mac OS Extended. I named it and hit erase. It started going, and going..... and going... and a half an hour later I knew something was wrong.
Disk Utility was not responding and I eventually had to Force Quit. Now I cannot format the hard drive. I starts and then it stops with a disk error. I tried to run the First Aid verify and repair and both stopped after a few seconds with an error. What do I do?
