my .mac mails stopped being received in mail on my laptop - but they were coming to my phone and available on line. I went to a genius bar, the uninstalled the account, reinstalled, rebooted and it worked......but minus the old mails. I have a backup of the mails. pls tell me how i can put the saved mails back into mail.

I am getting this response from my mail .... connection to server ''p02-smtp.mail.me.com'' on the default ports timed out. This just happened first time one week ago but without doing something about it it worked out again. BUT now it is not working anymore since 48hrs. I receives emails but sending does not work.

in this process they lost my mails, fortunatly there is a backup in Time Machine but i can not find the mails that i left on the left column in mail under "in my mac" where do i find them and how can they be restored again?

Also, how do I send copies of these to my primary gmail account into a pre-labeled folder in that account; once again bypassing my inbox (primary reason is that I do not want to get all my work emails into my inbox but I need to have them connected to mailbox at the end of the day.

I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me.
- Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail.
- If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.
Is there a way to set mail to download only newest mails? like the way mail.app behave on iPad? the email is ymail with pop server, and mail app always start download the oldest mail first,, from sometime in 2005. how do you guys setup your mail.app?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie to Mac and need some help. I find that the pre-installed 'Mail' is rather convenient but have trouble deleting e-mails I no longer need. Upon deleting selected mails and emptying the trash, I find that some items are STILL there when logging into the actual website (i.e. Gmail). E-mails that I thought were long gone are still there. Please someone help? I think I'm missing something.

I've always used Mail and I like it. I have three addresses, one of the provider, the other two belongs to my personal domain. They've always worked fine.
Since two months they suddenly stopped to send e-mails. The error says there's a problem with smtp server. I tried to change smtp settings, I've edited mail settings, tried to set up another account and tried to download another app for mail: always the same problem. My mother, that has a mac too and an e-mail account with our provider, doesn't have any problem. So I tried to copy those settings on my MacBook Pro.. nothing.
has anyone been able to figure out a solution to this problem?

Was on the phone with ATT to reconfigure new inbound and outbound settings, verify ports and authentication - still can't send.
In the Mail Preferences Account Information window, the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space can't be typed into; it offers an "edit server list" option that opens a window with the terms Description, Server Name, and In Use By Account. ATT instructed me to type the new server name under the Server Name heading but they did not know about the other two categories. So Description was left empty which caused the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space (on Account Information window) to have a mail server name attached by a colon to my e-mail address, which was bizarre. Only when Description had the actual server name underneath it did that name showed up in the SMTP space. Whatever is placed under Description in the edit server list window shows up in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space of the Account Information window.

Is there any program that you can upload a text list or Excel list to and it will do this automatically and create the e-mails in your drafts folder? Don't want to use a online sending service because they put crap at the bottom of the e-mail and recipients know it's automated.Want the people to think it's not something automated.Also, I know there's a way to schedule delivery of a message for a future date in Apple Mail via Apple Script, but you seem to have to schedule one by one. I read somewhere about pre TIger machines you could import directly via Entourage but not the newer OS's, something to do with eml and mbox?
I am considering having a roommate move in and letting them use my Mac. If I create them a guest account can I ensure that my e-mail and files will be secure by having this second account, or is there another way to accomplish this?

Is there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.
Does anyone know of an easy method to receive a return e-mail receipt using Apple Mail and a .Mac/.Me account. I know that in Windows you can use Outlook to receive/request a return receipt when the receiver opens the e-mail. I believe that even using Microsoft Office Entourage '08 would work as well but I really want to stay all Apple applications if at all possible
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.3) and in the last two weeks I face the following problem with the Mail application and my Yahoo mail account: although the account appears in the side bar of the application and it will search for new messages when I launch the Mail app, it doesn't load any messages and I also realised that all Mailboxes of the named account are blank! The messages appear normally when I reach my account through the Yahoo page! I tried to remove and re-import the account in the Mail app, but it just worked for two days and now the Mailboxes are blank again! I have no problems with the other two mail accounts I reach through the same application (both POP accounts).
