when I check my mail.app I can see a summary of new mails I have received.However when I open (or preview) them the app displays a blank message, together with a forwarded message from 14 months ago.

I just set up my Mac Mail. But it is transferring over 3000 of my old messages, that I don't really want to have. How can I just begin getting new emails, without having to receive all of the old ones? Is that possible? Can someone tell me how to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout an hour ago (have been trying to sort it since) I was in the middle of sending a couple of e-mails (been emailing a friend for about an hour, so was a sudden occurrence). And the messages don't send, wait in the outbox and an error message pops up JUST on my sky e-mail account, who are my ISP providers. They're claiming the port number and the outgoing mail server are incorrect/causing the error yet I have no touched the setting since the day I set the account up about 5months ago. The first line of the error says 'there may be a problem with the mail server or network' and then it goes on to mention the outgoing mail server and the port number (which is 995).

I've always used Mail and I like it. I have three addresses, one of the provider, the other two belongs to my personal domain. They've always worked fine.
Since two months they suddenly stopped to send e-mails. The error says there's a problem with smtp server. I tried to change smtp settings, I've edited mail settings, tried to set up another account and tried to download another app for mail: always the same problem. My mother, that has a mac too and an e-mail account with our provider, doesn't have any problem. So I tried to copy those settings on my MacBook Pro.. nothing.
Sending out the same e-mail message to 100 different people, but I want to customize the e-mail to their first name. Is there any program that you can upload a text list or Excel list to and it will do this automatically and create the e-mails in your drafts folder? Don't want to use a online sending service because they put crap at the bottom of the e-mail and recipients know it's automated.Want the people to think it's not something automated.Also, I know there's a way to schedule delivery of a message for a future date in Apple Mail via Apple Script, but you seem to have to schedule one by one. Any watch to do a batch scheduling?

Out of the blue iTunes suddenly decided it was going to redownload all my apps completely unnecessarily as they're all already installed on the computer and the iPhone. It wouldn't be an issue if I just had one or two, but I literally have 100s of apps of varying sizes, including a few that are upwards of 100mb. I don't want it to continually hog my bandwidth redownloading everytime I open iTunes. At the minute I'm clicking "pause all" everytime I open it. my main priority is stopping it.
I have been importing my large music CD collection and midway through, I have noticed that the first track of EVERY disc has NOT been copied to my library. The remaining tracks (Track 2 and up) were imported fine. When each CD was importing, everything looked normal and I got a green checkmark next to the first track. What's even more bizarre is that now, I cannot recreate this problem because iTunes imports the first track of every CD as normal. What the heck?! I'm going to have to re-import the first track of every disc now... Did a Google search and got nothing. I'm running the latest, up-to-date iTunes (v9.2) and Mac OS X (v10.6.4).

I can't delete e-mails, I can't mark them as read, and if I try to move an e-mail to another mailbox, it's copied, not moved.I've tried repairing disk permissions, and I've tried to remove the account and then adding it again ? but the problem persists. "Rebuild" in the Mailbox menu is inactive when this mailbox is selected, but works on my other accounts.The same account works fine on my iPhone; mails are getting marked as read and I can delete and move e-mails around. Same thing with webmail
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am pulling my hair since friday trying to get my MBP's time machine work with a 1TB drive connected to a early 2009 AEBS. First I spent half a day doing the first backup by connecting the hard drive directly to Mac using USB and later when I connected that drive to AEBS, time machine would not recognize the drive as the same one and I had to spend a good part of yesterday backing up my complete drive again.... and just when I thought I can rest easy knowing that my eternal dream of getting time machine work wirelessly, I saw time machine complain that there is not enough free space left to backup my paltry 103 GB worth of data on just second day.
Turns out, the Time machine backup volume (volume created by time machine on the AEBS disk) shows that the used space is 1TB.... but the size of the sparsebundle is only 103GB and my airport drive mount itself shows plenty of free space (800GB).... I have tried to search for similar problem, but I couldn't find much help... can anyone help me out here....
Btw, when I tried to repair the volume in disk utility, it says something about incorrect allocation blocks and then says it cannot repair and I need to backup and reformat the drive or something of that sort....
Is there a way to set mail to download only newest mails? like the way mail.app behave on iPad? the email is ymail with pop server, and mail app always start download the oldest mail first,, from sometime in 2005. how do you guys setup your mail.app?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie to Mac and need some help. I find that the pre-installed 'Mail' is rather convenient but have trouble deleting e-mails I no longer need. Upon deleting selected mails and emptying the trash, I find that some items are STILL there when logging into the actual website (i.e. Gmail). E-mails that I thought were long gone are still there. Please someone help? I think I'm missing something.

This has all gone pretty smoothly, but for some reason mail says that one of my accounts has five new e-mails, and another one has two. When I receive new e-mails these increment, and when I delete them they decrement, but they only ever go down to five and two.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe red badges on top of the mail icon, as well as the oval dark grey badges next to mailboxes are only very rarely correct. For example, at this moment the "Flagged" mailbox has a badge with the number 4. Clicking on it reveals that there are actually only three mails in that mailbox, and that furthermore none is flagged. So it is doubly wrong. There are similar issues with the "recent" mailbox, and the Dock icon. It is very annoying to see an unread mail badge, and not being able to find any unread mails. I am mainly using IMAP mail; perhaps the problem does not occur with iCloud mail.
This problem first appeared in OSX Leopard(!) years ago, and I have seen it on at least six different computers, in all later versions of OSX, during many years. With every new version I am hoping that it is fixed, and with Yosemite once again I am disappointed. How hard can it be to count? Or is there perhaps something I can change to fix this problem once and for all?

I suddenly remembered that I had all my mails on my iPhone which somehow was synchronized with my MacBook.So, to my question: Is there any way I can transfer my mails on the iPhone over to my Mail.app on my MacBook?I hope you'll be able to answer my question since the mails are quite important.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMail on my Pro suddenly says incorrect username and/or password. Resubmitting password does not help. Mail is fine on my iPad and Phone. I can also log into the mail's website with no issue. Until now mail has never been an issue on my Mac. I tried deleting and re-adding the account. Get the same message when it tries to verify the login during setup.

Was on the phone with ATT to reconfigure new inbound and outbound settings, verify ports and authentication - still can't send.
In the Mail Preferences Account Information window, the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space can't be typed into; it offers an "edit server list" option that opens a window with the terms Description, Server Name, and In Use By Account. ATT instructed me to type the new server name under the Server Name heading but they did not know about the other two categories. So Description was left empty which caused the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space (on Account Information window) to have a mail server name attached by a colon to my e-mail address, which was bizarre. Only when Description had the actual server name underneath it did that name showed up in the SMTP space. Whatever is placed under Description in the edit server list window shows up in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space of the Account Information window.

I went to a genius bar, the uninstalled the account, reinstalled, rebooted and it worked......but minus the old mails. I need to convert emails from Apple Mail on a 10.6.8 machine into Entourage 2004.
I read somewhere about pre TIger machines you could import directly via Entourage but not the newer OS's, something to do with eml and mbox?
Until yesterday my Mail prog displayed a list of emails in the top panel and the content of any selected e-mail in the lower panel of the display.
It now only displays one large panel containing the list of emails, and to read an email I now have to double-click and open it in a second window.
How do I get back to the standard two panel display with one above the other?
Is there a way to change the way Mail displays attachments? I hate how when attaching certain file types, such as PDF, instead of just showing multiple attachments in a nice little list, it shows you the whole freaking preview of the attachment and you lose track of what file (or type) it even is in the process.

Some, but not all, messages show in the display window as having been sent to the wrong recipient.However, when you click on them, the details shown are correct and they seem to be getting through to the intended address. So it's a display issue of some sort rather than Mail actually sending to the wrong place.Can't find any reference to this issue in Mail Help or online forums.I'm running OSX 10.4.11, Mail 2.1.3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received the 15" MacBook Pro with enhanced resolution screen (not the Retina display). At the highest resolution, all of the fonts display incredibily small. However, the lower resolution options don't seem to match the aspect ratio of the screen and create distortion. I can deal with this on Safari because it allows pinch and zoom resizing. However, I have not figured out how to zoom in on the Mail app. Using Command + is not a good solution because it actually increases the font size that the recipient views. I have to go all the to 30pt font to make it comfortable to view. Also, using Control and two finger swipe to zoom in a poor option as well because not everything will display.
