Software :: Larger Monitor NonMac For Photo & Video Edition?

May 26, 2010

I am a photography/film student at college, and I have a 13.3 MacBook OSX 10.4.11. I'm looking to buy a large (or larger, around the 24'' inch area, more or less) LCD monitor with around a $400 limit. I will primarily be using Adobe Programs like Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc., and I thought this would be the best place to ask for advice as to what monitors might be best for my needs. You see, I have absolutely no idea what to look for (I know that a high resolution and correct calibration is a must), but the primary function that I will be using this monitor for is editing photography and video.

Hardware :: Good Monitor For Pro Video And Photo ?

Dec 17, 2009

This will be my first post on the mac forums.I do video edit professionally on my 8 core mac pro as well as stills. I have the original 20' apple cinema display, but I am looking for a higher res display and I really don''t want to spend that much dough as I am in the process of upgrading photo/video equipment.I know the differences in quality between TN screens, and high quality IPS screens.
Would a 1920x1080 res suffice. I really don't want to spend more than 300 bucks. I know I may sound like an noob but please what are the cheapest highest quality/res for the price.

MacBook Pro :: Larger Font Size On External Monitor?

Jul 11, 2010

I'm looking to purchase an external monitor (24" @ 1920x1080) for my MacBook Pro (13.3" @ 1280x800) but want the fonts to be larger on the external monitor (eyes aren't what they used to be). The MBP13 has about 113 pixels/inch whereas the monitor has about 92 pixels/inch so I believe the fonts will indeed be larger. Can anyone with a similar setup confirm this or offer any other useful info.

MacBook :: Unable To Copy Video Larger Than 4gb / Hard Drive Not Allowing

Sep 14, 2010

I'm trying to put a 10gb sized video onto my hard drive but it won't allow me. I don't want to format it for 2 reasons.

1) i don't have space to back up and

2) the purpose of putting it on the hard drive is so I can watch the video through my blu ray player's usb port.

in disk utility, if i erase and use a volume format other than ms-dos (fat), the blu ray player doesn't pick p on the drive.

Mac Pro :: GTX 285 Mac Edition Versus 8800 GT Mac Edition?

Jun 16, 2009

I benched tested the new GTX 285 Mac Edition and the 8800 GT Mac Edition using X-Plane.

I used the same version (9.22 rc1) for both OS X 10.5.7 and Boot Camp WinXP.

I flew in North Dakota in order to eliminate as many objects and scenery as possible thereby making X-Plane as efficient as possible.

The flight was from Grand Forks (KGFK) to Crookston (KCKN). The length of the flight is 23.59 nautical miles and took 7 1/2 minutes.

I used a King Air B200 with a ground speed of 240 knots.

The renderings (1600 x 1200, 8xAA) and weather was exactly the same in both OS X and WinXP.

I flew three times for each video card and each operating system for a total of 12 flights. I averaged out the fps.

The 8800 GT Mac Edition is 2.3 times faster running under Boot Camp (WinXP) than the same 8800 GT running under Mac OS X 10.5.7.

Running under the same OS (Mac OS X 10.5.7), the GTX 285 Mac Edition is 2.7 times faster than the 8800 GT Mac Edition.

Running under the same OS (Boot Camp WinXP), the GTX 285 Mac Edition is 1.6 times faster than the 8800 GT Mac Edition.

My conclusion is the NVIDIA cards run much faster under Windows than they do with Mac OS X.

Hardware :: Monitor Recommendation For Photo Editing?

Aug 22, 2009

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a decent monitor (around 22"-24") that accurately represents color for editing. Right now I'm using a 13" Macbook and an LG 24" monitor, but the monitor really oversaturates reds, so it just doesn't work. Please keep in mind that I do calibrate both my Macbook and editing monitor, so I'm really just looking for a good quality monitor that doesn't oversaturate anything and can be accurate once calibrated. I've heard that Dell makes some pretty good ones, and of course the Apple Cinema Displays are great, but is there anything in the $200-300 range?

OS X :: Old Used Mac Pro Or New Imac - Video And Photo Editing ?

Jul 14, 2010

First time posting, so hope this is an ok place to post this.I would like some advice. I currently have the first macbook pro 17" released. 2.16 core duo with 2GB ram. It can not even play my AVCHD fils (.mts) and it takes like 30 minutes to convert a 2 minute .mts file to something playable. So editing is non existent. I will be getting a Canon 7d or 5dmkII also soon for more video. I will most likely do a lot of filters and effects on the video as well. I am a photographer, I do a lot of photo editing of large multi layer files. My current macbook pro is a joke. I have creative suite cs3, and really cant afford a new computer AND an upgrade of the creative suite and the other upgrades i want to make to my photo equipment. CS3 doesnt run on snow leopard correct? However, i could possibly come up with the money if i need to. I am only looking to spend at max $1500 on the computer. So.

OS X :: I Cannot Find Photo Booth & Video In My System?

Aug 28, 2010

Me and some friends were messing around on Photo Booth and we took a lengthy video (about 10 minutes) to put up on Youtube. We weren't done with the video and everything was still recording when I left for a minute. When I returned, Photo Booth was closed. My friend has never used a Mac before and he's not sure what he did. He says he was trying to quit out of another program and he might've accidentally quit Photo Booth. Either that, or he pressed the X, thinking it was the minimize button on Windows.Anyways, where is the part of the video that we actually recorded? Did the entire thing not get saved at all just because we might've quit out of the program near the end of our video?

I just upgraded to leopard on my MacBook Pro (2.4ghz Duo & 2GB ram) and have been messing around in Photo Booth, I noticed when I record a video with a video backdrop the process turns out sluggish and jerky. It only seems to be the backdrop that is quite laggy so I was wondering if this is just a case of there not being enough ram to handle it or is something else up.

MacBook Pro :: Best Configuration For Video & Photo Editor

May 25, 2010

I'm purchasing a Macbook Pro and I will be using it primarily for video and photo editing. I will need strong hd write performance for video encoding. I would also like a very fast load time for my apps such as photoshop and final cut. I am considering SSD drive for fast load of my apps. I would put the OS and all apps on the SSD. I would get a second drive, the fast Momentus XT from Seagate, and install it where the DVD drive is currently located. I would use the second drive for all data such as photos and video. This would give me fast write speeds for encoding and transferring video and photos from the camera to the MBP.
