I'm trying to make an image of a CD on my mac but the problem is that its a windows program. If I make a DMG image of the cd, then burn it, would it still work for windows programs?

I'm trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard on both my iMac and Macbook and I just purchased an external hard drive to back my stuff up before I install. However, what I'd like is to use this external hard drive for both machines. So when I have my external hard drive plugged into my iMac, would it be possible to have Time Machine just back up only that disc image and when the external is plugged into the Macbook, then Time Machine can back up the MB disc image.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac with a 230gb hard drive, and I've just used boot camp to create a 50gb partition for windows, all seems to be going smoothly enough.
Now, I'd like to be able to take a good chunk of the remaining hard disk space and create a partition that will work between mac osx and windows.
At the moment:
Mac OSX partition = 180gb
Windows = 50gb
I'd like to make a partition (about 120gb) from the mac osx side, and label it "audio drive" (i use audio software and i'd like to run the data on a separate location to the software).
How can I do this in such a way that both OSX and Windows XP will recognise the "drive" or partition? Im assuming I'll have to use Fat32, however Disk Utility won't give me that option (not that I can see anyway)
Edit: The OS's are Leopard and XP Service Pack 3
I have a few games i'd like to play using my mac. At the moment i cannot afford boot camp or anything like that so i have to use os x. Some of the games are new and some are old. Can i just put them in and try to install. On the back it says minimum system requirement windows 95, xp etc and says nothing about mac.

It will only be a couple of games and music software, but i dont have the OSX version, and i dont really want to buy a new version. I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my 27" i5 and I've been having a little trouble. I heard about people having issues with screens going blank, so I went ahead and followed Apple's instructions on the matter. I put the files they said on an SD card and started into the Windows installer. But after about two screens, it says, "Windows could not display the images available for installation." Then my computer restarts.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy brother is a windows user and as a gift i thought I'd get him an update to windows 7. I've bought the 32bit upgrade from software4students and selected digital download. Unfortunately it gives me a .exe download manager so i've downloaded the file on a windows pc and now transfered it back to mac as I'm trying to relearn how to do stuff the mac way (fairly new user ). So i now have the following files on my mac:windows 7 32bit imageas a .img file indows boot image as a .00 file Read me file and i want to make a bootable dvd. Disk Utility will let me make a new image from my usb with the files on, which just seems to be creating a .cdr file of everything on the stick. I was looking at the dvd options and it will let me burn the .img file to a dvd but wont let me include the windows boot image. Currently I'm creating a .cdr file of everything and then i'm going to burn that onto the DVD. This didn't work, it created a 16GB .cdr file as it captured all the empty space on my usb stick... Is this going to work? is there a more efficient way of creating this DVD on mac?

I've bought my 13" MBP (love it) but need to dual boot to run some programs, so I bought the Windows 7 Prof 64bit Upgrade. Now... because it's the upgrade version do I need to have a previous version of a Windows OS installed before I can upgrade or can I install straight away? Another question, at some point I'm tempted to upgrade to the 500gb Momentus XT. Will my Windows 7 disk be okay for multiple installs?

Why does the red button in windows' top left corner have different functionality in different programs? For instance in Messages, it closes the window but leaves the program running. In Reminders, however, it closes the window and the program and the same happens, for instance, in Disk Utility.
I am surprised that OS X-specific programs behave differently like this.

When I receive a jpg (not a jpeg) from a mac via email it wont open in either outlook or picture viewer etc (win xp). But if the same image is sent to any other PC (from the ma user) it opens OK.The added twist. If another pc user opens (which it does with no issues) then closes and sends back to the failing pc it opens with no issues!

Anyone know how to create a msdos bootable cd [that an imac can read]? I can create the cd in a working windows environment. I have found many dead end links online thus far.
Let me start again by saying I am not very computer savvy. I have a new IMAC running MAC OS X 10.6.1. I am using a 250 GB external hard drive as back-up with Time Machine. The external drive is formatted with MAC OS Extended (case-sensitive, journaled). I have been told that I will be able to read and write on this external drive with both my Mac hard drive and the Windows partition. Is this true?
My plan is to install a Windows partition because I have 2 programs that do not run on MAC. The first takes 5 to 15 MB hard drive space and runs in Windows and can be uninstalled from my old PC and re-installed onto the Windows partition on my IMAC, hopefully. The second is a DOS-based program and takes 896 KB hard drive space. Will a DOS-based program somehow run in the Windows partition? Is there anything special I have to do with this program? It is currently on my PC, and I think I would move the unzipped version of this program to the MAC? I have no disk for this program.
I realise I can't resize the partition my OS is running on...but bootcamp seems to be able to do it for windows. Is it possible to use bootcamp to create a windows partition but then install OS X Server on it instead of Windows?
Or is there magic I'm not aware of?

I have an issue with pdfs that I make in OS X Lion 10.7.4. If I create a pdf through the Print dialog I get a perfectly OK document. If I pass the pdf to a Windows user (Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3) and they open it using Adobe Reader or Acrobat 9, the pdf seems to be masked with random black rectangles. These appear where there was an indent or tab in the original document, but not in every case, and they are also randomly distributed in other parts of the doc.
I have also used the method of taking a screenshot as pdf, with the same result. Using the excellent Skitch to take a pdf screenshot gives a different problem, with Acrobat displaying a uniform grey box, so no joy there.
