I will connect it to one of the additional SATA connectors.
Which one of these burners would work under Mac OS X ?
Sony / NEC (Optiarc) DVD+/-RW AD-5240S
Asus DVD+/-RW DRW-24B1ST
Lite-ON DVD+/-RW IHAS424 LightScribe
I got IDECdRomOPTIARC_DVD_RW_AD-7170A_________________1.NC____ currently as first drive.
My G5 power mac has a standard CD burner in it that came with it when I got it - its given up the ghost. So I am going to replace it with a DVD Burner. Would I be right in thinking I can throw any DVD Burner in there? If i get the latest Pioneer Tray loading burner, that would slot right in there no problems right?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCan you burn disks at 16X on a G4. I have a MDD and I'm not sure how fast the optical drive bus is but I could swear its an ATA-3 bus, which I think is either 16MBps or 33MBps. Not quite sure. Does anyone have one and can vauch the full 16 speed while burning.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI Have a MacbookPro OSX 10.6.2 2gz intel core duo, recently i extracted a dvd burner from a crapped out dell laptop, it was the exact dimensions and looked identical to the old mac cd burner, so I installed it in my mac, and now my mac cant see the burner, When I go to "About this Mac" in the apple icon and click on disc burning it says "no disc burning device found". I wonder if theres a driver of some sort or do I have to re-install osx to get this working?

So its like 140gig of room. But I only have a cd burner and dvd drive. Would it be cheaper to install an new internal drive? Or pay more for the external(cause there is no hard installation). What drives would work? And I have a $200 dollar gift card to bestbuy or futureshop.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was hoping you could recommend me a Blu-Ray burner for my new Mac Pro.
From what I've found, these are the top 2 choices:

and

The second one is external - I prefer internal that I can drop into the Mac Pro. But it does have LightScribe - nice! Maybe there's something out there that is internal AND has LightScribe? Who here has installed a blu-ray burner into their Mac Pro?
I know the Mac Pro uses a smaller bezel for their tray loaders, so would regular retail drive work? I know I can remove the bezel, but if I don't have to I won't.I'm looking at the Pioneer 8x burner right now.

View 9 Replies View Relatedif i wanted to get a blu-ray reader/ burner for my mac pro i will need drivers for it. Makes sense. Here is the issue all the blu-ray drives i see that are supposedly for mac do not seem to come with drivers.
I have also seen people say all you need is a software such as toast titanium for Blu-Ray.
I want to put blu-ray movies on my mac and convert them to HD so i can stream them. so i need a blu-rayu drive.
The one I have in my iMac 2011 is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H.
How many 4.7GB DVD can it burn ? (to save time I don't verify data after burning)
I burn between 50 and 100 DVD per months, I'd like to know when it will be time to replace it by an external one (simpler for me even if taken by the warrenty, right ?) and which one has the longest lifetime ?

February 2014 Mac Pro
Final Cut Pro X
A DVD burner and an LG BluRay burner.
I believe the reason why I can't seem to burn either type of disc anymore is because I have plugged them into different USB ports over the many days I've been using these devices. They work fine on other computers and were working fine on this one, but Final Cut Pro uses a "Create Disc" program that I believe gets confused by which disc drive is to be used.
Final Cut Pro X completes the transcoding and goes to burn the DVD or BluRay disc (depending on which I selected in the Share menu) but nothing happens anymore.
How do I flush the hardware cache (if there is one) and restart with these external devices. The Mac Pro only has 4 USB ports but I needed more so I swap out the cables from time to time as I sync iPhones or upload memory cards to iPhoto.

I have two early 2008 Mac Pro 8-core computers, both running Leopard 10.5.8. The backup computer has a system hard drive that is an exact clone of the primary computer. They both burn data or video dvds fine using their internal drives. I just got an external USB Samsung bluray burner. It burns dvds and blurays (data or video) fine on the backup computer using Toast 10, or the finder burn function for dvds). But the external usb Samsung will not burn either dvds or blurays (neither date or video) on my primary computer. With blurays it just stops, and with dvds it gives some sort of error message. Since both computers have exact same system drives.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am looking for some advice re the purchasing of an external cd/dvd burner/player for my iMac as the optical superdrive on my iMac G5 has started to spit out my blank dvd`s when I insert them. I have tried several types of cd`s/dvd`s in the drive and even got myself a head cleaning kit to try that but it is still spitting them out.It will however play already previously recorded cd`s and dvd`s o.k. but just spits out the blank ones after a few minutes.
What brought all this to a head now was because I just recently received an HD camcorder and wanted to be able to take the video clips from it and process them, and burn them to a dvd so that I could play them on my dvd player and let my daughter have a copy. I would like to be able to burn them as HD files if that is possible as my camcorder records in HD and I have an HD ready TV.
Could anyone give me some good sound advice as to what software to purchase for processing the video clips - as HD if possible - and what would you recommend as an external dvd drive/player to purchase so as to be able to burn the processed clips to and play them back on my computer as well as my T.V. I`ve done a search on the internet for drives and software etc. but to be honest all the different types and variety and all the technical jargon etc. has just left me totally confused.
For your information I`m an old aged pensioner trying to keep up as best I can and I am not loaded with money so whatever I get now that will be it for a long time. Truth be told that is why I came on here to seek advice from people who understand about these things and have experience with them.

Does anyone know of a very good external Blu ray burner for a Mac??
I recently purchased this BR burner: (URL)
I mounted it in this external enclosure: (URL)
This is all running on a 27" iMac Core i7 via firewire, and daisy chained off my GuardianMax RAID drive.
This combo works great for ripping and playing, however, i do have one problem. When the player is on and i need to either reboot or shut down the system just hangs. It won't proceed until i power down the bluray burner.
I already have an External enclosure that turned an old HDD into an external HDD (IDE to USB and a Power cable). Now, if i had an Internal DVD burner, can i plug it into my HDD enclosure and use it to burn DVDs?
I know it wont fit INSIDE the enclosure but luckily the enclosure has a back panel with all the hookups that come off completely so i could just plug it in and sit it on a desk while its in use.
Handbrake won't work for this and I can't find one except for fake ones you buy,
