The one I have in my iMac 2011 is an OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H.
How many 4.7GB DVD can it burn ? (to save time I don't verify data after burning)
I burn between 50 and 100 DVD per months, I'd like to know when it will be time to replace it by an external one (simpler for me even if taken by the warrenty, right ?) and which one has the longest lifetime ?
I have been thru 2 external DVD burners Maxwell & LG with USB connections. Both worked OK until I used Lightscribe then they are not reconized. They show up in system profiler but dvd icon will not come up on desktop. I threw out light scribe, disconnected the drives and still will not work.
iTunes doesn't recognize the CD I put in the cd burner, it spins and tries to read it then stops and won't eject it. No error message, and no cd icon to use reject. Command-e and eject button on keyboard don't work. iMac running 10.6.8. iTunes version 10.6.
I've burned CD's and DVD's at times, and all of a sudden the disk won't go into the slot ..... it hits something 2/3 way in and physically won't go in.....Â

Our internal drive for iMac is dying. I am looking for recommendations (seem to only have older ones on the boards) for an external DVD burner/drive (blu-ray not required) that we can use for a while.
iMacrunning OS10.7.3 have been burning DVD sucsessfully Using Toast 11, but now receive error message Sense Key = Medium error sense Code 0x02 No seek complete. Tried different blank DVD's same error. What does the Code mean?
My G5 power mac has a standard CD burner in it that came with it when I got it - its given up the ghost. So I am going to replace it with a DVD Burner. Would I be right in thinking I can throw any DVD Burner in there? If i get the latest Pioneer Tray loading burner, that would slot right in there no problems right?
Can you burn disks at 16X on a G4. I have a MDD and I'm not sure how fast the optical drive bus is but I could swear its an ATA-3 bus, which I think is either 16MBps or 33MBps. Not quite sure. Does anyone have one and can vauch the full 16 speed while burning.
I have a 1st generation MacPro with a Quad Xeon and 5 GB RAM. I need to get a blu ray burner. Does anyone out there know of a good quality burner that I can get for my machine? I've been looking online but I haven't been able to figure out which one is mac compatible.
an External Blu-Ray reader/burner for my computer and I assume it's best to have FireWire for my Mac but also i want USB since I'll use it on a Windows machine that has USB only.I have considered the below drive by OWC which is 12x
I Have a MacbookPro OSX 10.6.2 2gz intel core duo, recently i extracted a dvd burner from a crapped out dell laptop, it was the exact dimensions and looked identical to the old mac cd burner, so I installed it in my mac, and now my mac cant see the burner, When I go to "About this Mac" in the apple icon and click on disc burning it says "no disc burning device found". I wonder if theres a driver of some sort or do I have to re-install osx to get this working?
I have an EMac g4-255mb(just got 2 (256mb chips) never put in yet)-60gig running 10.4 (just got it) and now just got iLife 06) and then I have an 80gig external hard drive. So its like 140gig of room. But I only have a cd burner and dvd drive. Would it be cheaper to install an new internal drive? Or pay more for the external(cause there is no hard installation). What drives would work? And I have a $200 dollar gift card to bestbuy or futureshop.
I have this memorex lightscribe external burner. before I open it i want to make sure it is MAC compatible. I want to burn CD and eventually dvdsDoes not mention Mac anywhere on the box. I have a 24" mac desktop
I was hoping you could recommend me a Blu-Ray burner for my new Mac Pro.
From what I've found, these are the top 2 choices:
http://www.mcetech.com/blu-ray/
and
(URL)
The second one is external - I prefer internal that I can drop into the Mac Pro. But it does have LightScribe - nice! Maybe there's something out there that is internal AND has LightScribe? Who here has installed a blu-ray burner into their Mac Pro?
I know the Mac Pro uses a smaller bezel for their tray loaders, so would regular retail drive work? I know I can remove the bezel, but if I don't have to I won't.I'm looking at the Pioneer 8x burner right now.
Anyone have a BD Burner that they use on their Mac Books or Mac Book Pro? I am interested in getting one to backup my images, I am a photographer and shoot in the RAW format. I also just purchased a new camera, where the uncompressed images are anywhere from 20-30MB a photo. So projects tend to be quite large.
if i wanted to get a blu-ray reader/ burner for my mac pro i will need drivers for it. Makes sense. Here is the issue all the blu-ray drives i see that are supposedly for mac do not seem to come with drivers. I have also seen people say all you need is a software such as toast titanium for Blu-Ray.
I want to put blu-ray movies on my mac and convert them to HD so i can stream them. so i need a blu-rayu drive.
I want to change the burner in iTunes - but under Preferences -> Advanced ... there is no Burner Option! Where has it gone?Trying to change it before burning - right click on Playlist -> Burn ... I can not change it ...
I believe the reason why I can't seem to burn either type of disc anymore is because I have plugged them into different USB ports over the many days I've been using these devices. They work fine on other computers and were working fine on this one, but Final Cut Pro uses a "Create Disc" program that I believe gets confused by which disc drive is to be used. Â
Final Cut Pro X completes the transcoding and goes to burn the DVD or BluRay disc (depending on which I selected in the Share menu) but nothing happens anymore.Â
How do I flush the hardware cache (if there is one) and restart with these external devices. The Mac Pro only has 4 USB ports but I needed more so I swap out the cables from time to time as I sync iPhones or upload memory cards to iPhoto.
