This is all running on a 27" iMac Core i7 via firewire, and daisy chained off my GuardianMax RAID drive.
This combo works great for ripping and playing, however, i do have one problem. When the player is on and i need to either reboot or shut down the system just hangs. It won't proceed until i power down the bluray burner.
I have Mac OS X 10.4.11. with an internal Pioneer DVR-106D CD/DVD burner. I "capture" opera performances on-line, edit them with CD Spin Doctor 2, send it to Toast where it is then burned to disc. I have been doing this for years with no problems. This past week I started receiving the following message "sense key=medium error. Sense code= OX73, OX03". I tried several different CDs and had three different brands which always did work but stopped working...Philips CD-R, TDK, Memorex Black CD-R. I had two Maxell CD-Rs and they worked. I purchased a cleaning disc hoping that cleaning the lens would correct the problem. Still none of the previously mentioned CD-Rs would work and I was unable to purchase additional Maxell discs locally. At Sam's Club I purchased Verbatim CD-R, placed one in the computer.....and it worked. For almost a week I've been able to burn CDs once more, until tonight. Again, I used the cleaner disc plus retried some of the other brands of CD with the same results...no burn. When I tried burning a disc with iTunes, I received the following message "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibate the laser power level for this media."

The second one is external - I prefer internal that I can drop into the Mac Pro. But it does have LightScribe - nice! Maybe there's something out there that is internal AND has LightScribe? Who here has installed a blu-ray burner into their Mac Pro?
Anyone have a BD Burner that they use on their Mac Books or Mac Book Pro? I am interested in getting one to backup my images, I am a photographer and shoot in the RAW format. I also just purchased a new camera, where the uncompressed images are anywhere from 20-30MB a photo. So projects tend to be quite large.

I have also seen people say all you need is a software such as toast titanium for Blu-Ray.

i recently updated to mac 10.3.9 and my cd burner won't work anymore. under system software is says disc burning is not supported with my iomega CDRW86522EXT3-B: how can this be? earlier in the year it worked fine, and I did burn discs. What happens now is that sometimes it says that my disc isn't supported, and if I do get throught the burning nothing plays on my regular compact disc players. (I'm burning audio files)

The tower only has IDE interface cables for the two optical drive bays.
Will these play nicely together?
I can no longer burn DVD's on my PowerPC G5 with 10.5.8, but can no longer do it as well on my Macbook Pro with OS 10.6--are all internal Superdrives now non functioning!!?? I've wasted many DVD's and no successes, just error messages and failures to burn.

I have a slow loading brand new dvd burner that I took out of a dell studio xps 16" that is the same exact size as the super drive in the macbook pro unibody 15" (both sata)...Is it possible for me to use this drive since my macbook pro 15 is not letting me load cds or dvds but it does go in...let me know before I do this myself and damage the whole thing
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook os x that is about 3 years old. I enabled firevault recently. This computer worked great until I enabled firevault. When I try to log in it will not take my password. After multiple attempts it ques me to type in my firevault password. It then asks me to change my password. When I do this a window pops up and says " you are unable to log in to the user account at this time. I have read many threads with the same problem. All signs point to needing an update. I dont understand how I can do an update without logging in. I read something about logging in as a root, but the instructions are not simplified enough for me to understand. Does anybody know how to fix this problem and explain at about a third grade level?

Twice under Mac OS and once under Boot Camp Windows Vista. Anybody else has similar problem? I saw those things when I was using the MBP (with the infamous 8600M GT) three years ago.

On OWC's website the price difference between the 240gb and the 480gb is $900. Will the 240gb be sufficient for the long haul or do I need to bite the bullet and get the 480gb? I will be installing 4 2gb Hitachi drives in the other hard drive bays.
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy Spotlight doesn't seem to be working properly. It has been indexing for the past couple of weeks and is clearly stuck. It actually says that it is 'estimating indexing time' but hasn't been able to move on from this.
Time Machine has also stopped backing up, and I think that this may be a linked issue.

I just went to the Apple store, and my friend (actually she is older than I am, like 15 years in difference. Just got friendly, so I call her 'friend') suggested me 100$ for 4GB upgrade. She told me that it's not possible to upgrade the RAM after the payment, but she is able to do it for me.
I'm always paranoid wether the Apple employees will give me the 'older' RAMs or 'used' ones. Should I be? or just trust the employee who will swap it for me.
If I have a choice, I would like to install the new RAM for myself.
I go to connect to my dorm room's wireless network with my macbook pro which I purchased in late march (worked great on my wi-fi last year), but this year, I choose the network, enter the password, and get this lovely notice.

Before, I had a Macbook Pro 15" ( Old version, 2008 Penryn Version ), and I currently have 6 GBs of RAM inside ( the max, 4 GB + 2 GB ) I also have another spare 2 GB chip and 2 1GB chips for my old Macbook Pro. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have my mac connected to my wireless network. For the last two weeks, these are the things I have noticed.
- The connection to the router is lost prompting me to enter the security key
- Connection to websites takes 5 to 6 tries even though the mac is connected to the network and I have full signal.
All of these problems are solve by turning the AirPort on and off and it will works correctly.
My question is if the problem is with the mac wifi connection or my network and router. The router is a linksys router WRT160N.
Got my 2009 2.26 today and I'm just getting things setup. My initial plan was to place the 8800gt from my 2007 2.6 quad core in the machine along with the default 120gt until i could get the 4870 upgrade. To my dismay I have not been able to get the 8800gt to work It appears as if the 8800gt that I have isn't recognized! Does anyone know why this might happen? Was there an EFI change between the two? I also tried the orig. 7300gt that came with my previous box and received the same results.

I have created a image of my macbook pro (2006), on a DL-R disk. (This was so that I can restore my mac without having to do any updates or having to download and install programs) However, the person who made the image for me is no longer available and as such I have no way to use the DL-R disk. Apparently the macbook pro 2006 cannot read DL-R disks. I know that apple has a networked optical drive feature for the macbook Air. Would I be able to use this feature on my macbook pro?

I've tried all the usual tricks that come up on google, holding eject/trackpad on start up, eject in commands/itunes and the thin piece of card under/over the disc but nothing has worked.
When holding eject it sounds like the disc hits something as it tries to eject but due to the felt I can't see inside to see what it is?
I intend to purchase a wired keyboard on my BTO iMac and I understand that there are two USB ports, one on either side of the keyboard. Are these ports USB 2.0 as they are on the rear of the iMac?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard backlight isn't working... whenever I try to turn it up it gives a circle with a line through it. I have read that there is an ambient light sensor that turns off the keyboard backlight when it is too bright, however that has NEVER happened before and I have used it in direct sunlight and the backlight still obviously works. It's not even bright right now but it won't work. This is very frustrating, there should be no sensor that turns it off it should be the brightness I tell it to be.
