I am getting a new IMac with a new aluminum keyboard and it looks perfect. When i start using it I realize that my shortcut key does not work anymore. My shortcut key consists of F1 - F12 is now assigned to the Mac OS function, I don't find a way to them off.

I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

My desk configuration for my imac includes a keyboard tray. I am contemplating just not using it, however it really does put the keyboard in a more natural place for me to sit correctly. If I want to use the wired keyboard though, I will obviously need some type of usb extension. I have read these came with the old keyboards, but they don't come with the new ones. Does anyone know where I can find one that is compatible with the aluminum keyboard? Would the extenders that came with the old Mac keyboards work (in case i can find one on ebay or something)?

I need some suggestions on which drives are the best....speed and durability are a MUST have. View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a message that my batteries were low in the wireless keyboard. I let it go until the connection dropped because I did not have any batteries handy. I have since replaced the batteries with brand new ones and I cannot get the keyboard to turn on. I have pressed and held the power button on the side but the green light never comes on. Is there some sort of special reset sequence I can do on it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a very minor Mountain Dew spill several weeks ago, and I thought nothing would come of it. As time progresses, several keys are losing their effectiveness. Some sugar has to be in there gumming up the works. The keys that don't work the worst are "p", "'", shift and enter, right around my liquid spill. These keys have extra physical resistance, and once pressed, they send the right electrical signal, so I'm very optimistic that a Q-tip and a little alcohol will fix me right up.
I don't see any screws on my A1243 thin aluminum keyboard that came stock with my 3GHz 24" Merom iMac. Does anyone here have experience taking them apart or cleaning them?

So I did a quick search and discovered that glue was the main binding agent, and that disassembly of the keyboard is nearly impossible, well, you could disassemble it, but it most likely would never see the light of a caps lock key again.
So, to all of you that are the proud owners of either the wired or wireless versions, what is your preferred methods of keeping this baby clean?
I recently received a bluetooth ultra-thin keyboard to use with my laptop while I have it hooked up to it's external monitor, the only trouble is that I can't seem to get the function keys to work properly. I've managed to go in and reset the dashboard control / brightness using the keyboard pane in the system settings, but I can't seem to set the volume / media control buttons. Any ideas how to get my keyboard working properly? If it matters at all, I'm running this on a 2.4 unibody MBP.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem but it's not mine it's my girlfriends. My girlfriend cannot seem to type correct words on her keyboard, due to water exposure. Now whenever she wants to type something it won't let her. We tried different methods; unplugging computer power cord, keyboard, and replug everything back in after 15-20 seconds. No luck. I also had her try to do the pram reset, didn't work as well. I suggest that she re-install osx with the disc or with the new snow leopard disc, to do a clean installation of the snow leopard but we haven't tried that yet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy number pad hasn't been working lately. It looks like some kind of setting has taken effect and I'm not sure how to fix it. For example, my numbers are now directional movements for my cursor: 2 moves it down, 4 moves it left, 6 moves it right, 8 moves it up, and 1, 3, 7, and 9 move my cursor diagonally. My Logitech MX Laser mouse works fine but somehow clicking gets disabled. I have a feeling these problems are related somewhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an used iMac (was purchased new in feburary 2009) in which I knew the screen was not showing any video when I bought it. ( I was okay with that I thought I'd give it a go at fixing) well the problem seems to be within the LCD itself. When I hit the power button I hear the chime, fan spins, and the hard drive does it's thing. I ended up taking the casing off the iMac to where it only shows the bottom half of the insides underneath the LCD. My question is now to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it by using the 4 led lights. I have searched the forums and the Internet up and down for which ones mean what but I have only found out information on older iMacs. When my iMac is off (still plugged in) LED 1 is on. When I turn the iMac on LED 1,2, and 3 are green. Which that leaves the 4th LED not being lit up at all. I suspect this has something to do with the iMac not showing any video but as I said I am not sure because I cannot find any information on it anywhere.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt looks like the surface of a few keys has been eaten away by acid, I can only imagine it has happened because my fingernails touch the keys through normal typing, but this is completely unavoidable unless I type like a one-fingered man. It mainly seems to happen on the A and S keys, this has happened on my white MacBook, Wireless Aluminium keyboard and Wired Aluminium keyboard, but as they are so expensive to replace I am not willing to buy a whole new keyboard for this. Also, one of my cmd keys has an odd stain on it, possibly from a crumb or droplet of orange juice which I'm sure I would have wiped off immediately, I wouldn't have expected plastic to stain so easily. Has anyone else found this with their Aluminium keyboard?
I suppose there's nothing much I can do to prevent it (I refuse to use a silicone cover), so my option appears to be just to replace those keys damaged through wear and tear however I can. Are the keys interchangeable between these three keyboards? (Wireless / Wired Aluminium, white 2008 MacBook Core2Duo) The main keys look the same apart from the bottom row on the Wired Aluminium keyboard which are a bit wider.

Getting a new MacBookPro with high res anti-glare screen.I type with two fingers, and often look at the keyboard.
For eye comfort, and to prevent retinal after-images, I'd like all the aluminum dull black. I found tape and fabric to cover up most of the top case and the bezel, but the keyboard is a challenge. KBCovers does not produce a keyboard cover which will be black at the bases of the keys and clear over the keys, which would allow the backlit keyboard to transmit. So first choice is a keyboard cover which has black everywhere there's aluminum, and has clear for the keys. Second choice is an all clear keybooard cover and I'll adhere black to the aluminum around the keys (and top case).

Never understood Apple's engineering design of making a screen anti-glare and anti-reflective, while making the remainder of the computer glaring and reflective and contrasting. Ye olde black MacBook is such an eye-pleasing and comfortable design.
I bought an iMac on dec, 2010 it came with snow leopard and a wired aluminum keyboard, everything was good until dec, 2011 when my keyboard suddenly stopped working, I took it to an apple store and they replaced it, everything was fine until last month when my new keyboard stopped working again.
I have an old macbook (1st gen of intel-based macbooks) and if I connect the keyboard to that macbook it works just fine, I have checked and all the USB ports on my iMac and they work but when I connect the keyboard it just doesn't recognizes it as a keyboard (or as anything because it doesn't show on system profiler). I have connected another keyboard I own (a logitech wireless one) and the imac recognizes it, I don't know what to do.
Btw, if I disconnect the keyboard for a day or two it works again when I connect it to the iMac, also If I use the USB ports attached to the keyboard I get an error that the USB is taking too much power and it shuts down (and then the keyboard stops working again on the iMac)

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

I noticed on the iSkin site that they say the pre-printed covers (which is what I think I'd like) do not fit the MacBook revision that came out in November, though.
I own an eMac (my first one) and overall, I'm extremely pleased with the machine. However, the fancy-appearing keyboard leaves much to be desired, and I'm looking for a new one. The Matias tactile pro keyboard looks promising, as does the Kensington, but I would be interested in everyone's opinion as to which keyboard has the best "feel." I'm not interested in bells and whistles, just basic utility and keyboard keys striking quality for long sessions on my word processor.

What are the main advantages of dvorak, and how long does it take most people to learn? Would it be worth me mastering, even though I am pretty fast on a regular keyboard?
I use my laptop on a stand and when typing (only small tasks, i.e. a bit of facebook) I find it a normal to reach up and uncomfortably hit the keys. Is there software that would allow me to type say, with my mouse by hitting on screen letters/numbers. I googled for this but couldn't find anything. Does such software exist?

I used to do that in Windows with AutoHotKey and all I find on Mac OS X are complex applications.
To be more specific i just want to generate a Apple+T shortcut to open up a new tab when pressing the fourth button of my Microsoft Arc mouse.
But, sometimes I'm confused because of OS X's symbols of ctrl, shift and option keys.
So, I slightly photoshoped the image from the Apple website and I believe Apple should follow this design someday.
Just look at the ctrl, shift and option keys, then you'll find something changed.
