Software :: AMSN On Mac Firewalled Or Behind Router
Jan 25, 2009
I don't know much about this. I'll explain it as good as possible: I have a macbook (leopard) and I'm trying to use the aMSN. At first I was able to do it, but then I moved out and it doesn't work here since then. My roomemate operates the windows laptop wirelessly, so do I the mac, but I do have acces to the modem/router. I tried changing the attributes of the router (a westell versalink A90-750015-07 provided by verizon) and nothing happened. Then I read that I could try selecting : connecting using HTTP method, and I finally was able to log in, however I am not able to send or receive any messages. I see when contacts come online but they just don't receive my messages nor I get theirs. I noticed that the connection tab on aMSN says. Type: IP-restrict-NAT and also "you are firewalled or behind a router. So far, none of the methods explained here have helped.

Ever since upgrading to SL, aMSN hasn't been supported, and its the only client I know of which offers webcam support for MSN. I was just wondering if anyone knew of an alternative program that supports SL as well as webcam for the MSN network.

Every since Ive updated to Snow Leopard my amsn has been crashing, a lot. And besides that I cant get video calls, or at least share web cam with anybody any more, either it will crash or Ill be able to see the other person, but the other person wont see me.Ive updated to the latest 0.98 version, but no luck whatsoever. Ive been searching for help, but all the answers Ive got were related to Linux.

I just recently got Verizon Fios internet. I am having a problem with making the router they supplied my default router.I am not trying to piggy back or connect additional routers. I just want to use the Fios router.Prior to Fios, I had Time Warner and i used my own router and as soon as I opened up my macbook, it would immediately find that router as my default. Now, with Fios, when i open my "Airport" icon at the top on my screen, it NEVER choses my Fios router as my default, making me change to it every time i want to use my internet after opening up my computer.

Upstairs I have my AT&T provided router's wireless turned off and have plugged my Airport Extreme into the ethernet in DMZ mode. Wireless works fine in the house.Downstairs my Xbox 360's ethernet cable is plugged into my AT&T provided set-top box (receiver/DVR) and internet works fine on that. I cannot stream my media (using 360 Connect) from my mac to my xbox since they are on different networks, although using the same U-verse connection. When checking the AT&T router's system summary page I can see that there is an IP assigned to the xbox.

I just built a PC that actually works. However, I was really cheap and didn't wanna buy a wireless access card, thinking I could connect to an extra router and use this router to connect to my other router that's network enabled. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? I tried googling it, but I dunno what this is called.

I have a Linksys Wireless Router and a Linksys Modem, the router is 6 years old or so 802.11b, how much faster would the Internet be if I had a combined Linksys wireless router/modem versus the 802.11b that I have now?
Would I see a huge difference? I am running my Macbook off it and an olde Toshiba laptop.

What I'm trying to do is set up the apple tvs to be connected to a router that is not connected to the internet, which we'll call Router B.The Mac Mini has all the movies and TV Shows on the iTunes account is hardlined into another router that is connected to the internet, which we'll call Router A.Is it possible to have the Mac Mini hardlined into Router A (to have an internet connection) and simultaneously connected wirelessly to Router B (so the AppleTVs can pull from the Mac Mini iTunes.)?Or vice versa, hardlined into Router B (non internet connection) and Wireless to Router A (internet connection).
Info:
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

I just recently purchased the D-Link dir-625 router which is 802.11n capable. I also have an imac which is n capable. The problem is getting the router to see me as connected with n...even when setting the router to n only! My hubby is the tech geek, but we are kinda stumped at this point. Any suggestions? I am the only mac user in the house , he is using a regular ol windows computer, but is the wired one.

I have this old Mac Mini that I was gonna use as a media center/pvr type thing. I do not have a router at the moment, so I thought maybe I could use the mini as a router as well. The only problem with this setup is that it doesn't look like the internet sharing feature of Mac OS X supports anything but WEP. It's missing some other key features as well, like port mapping.

I have purchased 2 different wired DSL routers from Fry's and my Mac G4 OS X 10.4.11 will not recognize the IP address of either router. I have called their respective tech support services and gotten no relief. One actually said that my computer has the wrong IP address. Is that even possible? Unfortunately, the other computer that I want to put on the network is a PC, but is a work computer and work will not let me have the access code to upload anything.

I recently sold my old MacBook to my brother. He has 2 PCs and 2 iPhones, both of which connect perfectly to the internet through his modem/router (a BT Business Hub). The Mac, on the other hand, just won't connect to the internet. Airport connects to the router, but cannot load any web pages. Connecting by ethernet does not appear to help. This Mac will happily connect to any other router except this one.
