In short I have a 480GB SSD by OWC. The audio alone, according to "About This Mac", is over 581.14GB... Something is obviously not adding correctly.Â
I must admit, I had a couple of iPods that I downloaded music from to a VMware running Mac OS 10.9.4. The host OS is something that I can't mention...
I used the Hudini for Mac on the 10.9.4 WMware OS to unhide the music.Â
Since I noticed this disc usage inaccuracy. I've deleted most of the music. Because at one point it was showing over 1TB for the audio.
I've also did a command R at start up and ran Disc Permission and Repair.
I also turned off Time Machine, reboot, turned TM back on, reboot. (Someone else had the opposite disc usage and this worked.)Â
My next thought is to delete the Mac OS 10.9.4 via VMware, as this was where I originally downloaded the music from an iPod. I went through the music and transferred over to the host OS the selection that I wanted to keep. When I Get Info on the music app via Mac OS X ssd â–¸ Users â–¸ KOT â–¸ Music â–¸ iTunes â–¸ iTunes Media it comes up with a little over 17GB. Â

I just bought Macbook from someone who spoke Spanish, and they had the language set to Spanish. Â
I changed the language to English under the "language and region," setting in system preferences, and Mac Os seems to be all in English. Â
However, when I restart the computer and enter disc utility, the language is still in Spanish, and I can't figure out how to change it.Â
In the upper right hand corner there is a US flag that says, "Estadounidense", but I don't know if it this is a country or language setting. Â How I can change Disc Utility to English?

Every time I try to erase music from my USB Key or Phone.
You can see that the music or files have been erased, but it doesnt free up and space. When you pop the USB Key into the stereo or play music on the phone, all the files are there.
I have to go through the Disk Utility option to erase stuff, but this erases everything. When you erase on the PC, everything is fine.

The interwebs claims the upgrade disc does NOT feature the "erase and install" option, and will ONLY upgrade your current Leopard installation WITH files to SL.
This would mean, that we had to format Leopard, and then install SL to get a clean install. Is this true?
I ordered the box set even though I have leopard, because most mac sites claim the above mentioned feature is long gone.

i am really shocked with iTunes. I have just bought my mother an 160GB Classic and am starting to rip her entire music collection which is at least 100CDs.. however sometimes for albums iTunes gets mixed up with disc 1 and disc 2 and labels them wrong and sometimes does [disc 1] and (disc 2)... it should be consistent not mixing brackets... i have had to edit the tags manually..

I have a 700 GB external HD with a 349 GB MacOSX Extended (Journaled) partition, and a 349 GB FAT32 Partition.
I need to shrink the FAT32 partition to make room for another smallish HFS+ partition so that I can back up my virtual machine (around 30 GB). My question is whether resizing the FAT32 partition in Disk Utility will harm the data in either of my existing partitions. I understand Leopard to have an on-the-fly partitioning ability, but I wasn't sure whether this applied only to certain file systems.
I am running OSX 10.5.8.

I have a mid-2007 20" iMac, 250 GB hard drive, 4 GB memory, and it runs Lion.I understand I will have to reboot the computer with Snow Leopard, since Lion is non-transferrable, but do I do this after I've deauthorized iTunes and done a 35-pass wipe of the hard drive? Also, do you recommend that I add biogradable peanuts to the inside of the box (I have the original) before shipping it, or are the Apple-provided styrofoam bumpers that fit on each corner sufficient? It's going USPS to a military base overseas.

OK - the history here is the previous Macbook was replaced because of system problems, including many files with FUTURE dates (eg. 2037). Apple store agreed after repeated issues, they would replace the machine. We did a final time machine/capsule backup before taking it in.Â
Got the new Macbook and ran the Migration assistant to restore all data from the time capsule. The data was not correct, and I suspect it was something to do with the future dates.Â
I can open the sparse bundle backup file and see the correct backup information, but I have no option when I open Time Machine to pick ANY previous backups. This all started with Macbook problem, and I'm really thinking they should figure this out - but assuming they wont, how to safely get the 'real' information recovered from Time Capsule.  Â
PS - OS X Lion on both systems - Macbook Pro 15" i7, 750GB

Boot camp went wrong because I had to reboot my macbook while windows 7 was being installed. After that, I deleted the 32gb windows partition. But guess what? Disk utility says that my free space is 468 gb, when before boot camp I had 493gb.

I'm in the process of selling my iMac G5 (I'm getting a new iMac). I've got all my personal data backed up onto an external hard drive. The question I have is regarding my G5 - what's the best way of deleting all my personal data on it? Should I reinstall Tiger using the CD that came with the system and do a complete "Erase and Install", or is there a simpler way?

My MB Air is not booting (I get the ever gray Apple logo screen with the spinning wheel, and nothing happens) Following instructions I found online, I tried the disk utility repair disk and permissions and, apparently, there's nothing wrong. Still, the system won't boot!Â
I'm now trying to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, but the system requires about 0.5 GB of additional free disk space to install!Â
Is there anyway I can access the OS terminal screen (command line interface), so I may delete a few files, creating additional disk space?Â

I recently burned a project to DVD. It's a data disc, and seems to have worked fine, about 1.2 GB of the four available on the DVD-R I burned with a Superdrive on my G4 desktop.
I told it to write session in Toast 7 Titanium, but when i try to burn something else to the disc, Toast rejects it. With DVD's, can you only burn one data disc? No multiple sessions? It's okay if this is the case, I just want to know.

Every time I burn a DVD (data disc) from the finder, it will show up fine in my two snow leopard Macs. When I try putting it in my MacBook Pro that has 10.5 (this is from my university), it will not show up in the finder. Then, it will spit the disc back out. I tried it in a few other MBPs with 10.5, and the same thing happens.
