OS X :: Boot Camp Install Gone Wrong - 32GB Of Disc Space Missing?

Jun 16, 2010

Boot camp went wrong because I had to reboot my macbook while windows 7 was being installed. After that, I deleted the 32gb windows partition. But guess what? Disk utility says that my free space is 468 gb, when before boot camp I had 493gb.

I installed all the drivers under Windows 7 using the Snow Leopard install disc. One problem that remains is under Windows 7, I can't tap the trackpad to click. I have to use a mouse.Anyone know of a fix? Can't find it under Apple Support at all.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Missing Hard Disc Space

May 19, 2012

Over the past few days, I've been pruning my hard drive of excess files and moving many of them to external hard drives. My machine is a year-old Macbook Pro. Even after removing over 100GB of files from my 750GB internal hard drive, the info pane for my hard disc still tells me I have only about 60GB of free space.I have been using Disc Inventory X to find files and get rid of them. My latest scan of my HD with this program yields 450GB of actual files stored on my computer, yet the info pane for my HD (powered by Finder) is still telling me I have about 76 GB free. Does anyone have any ideas for how this discrepancy could exist? If the actual files on my computer only come to 450GB, how can I free up the remaining 250GB of space that seem to be missing?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

IMac :: Install New Hard Drive But Missing Leopard Install Disc

Jan 30, 2010

I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Icon Missing?

Sep 4, 2009

as the title says, I have Win 7 x64 (RTM through MSDN at school) and everything works great, except for when I reboot the machine, the Boot Camp tray app is not rebooting with the machine. I have made sure that all of the Boot Camp services are on within Windows, but this is driving me nuts. I have read on the Apple Support Forums that some people think it has to do with VM Ware Fusion, (which I have) but the problem is not related. I have done a new install of Win 7 and didn't configure VM Ware tools, so that rules it out for me. I do know for a fact that the problem is not apparent on a unit that I was working on earlier today (at work, iMac, Vista, SL, x64) and everything worked fine after rebooting (and tray icon came up on that unit).

I did have Leopard with Win 7 RC x64 working flawlessly...

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp 3.0 Drivers Missing?

Windows On Mac :: How Much HDD Space To Give On Boot Camp

Jun 6, 2009

I just don't want to waste too much of my 1TB storage; that my iMac 24" will have - for Windows Boot Camp.

I guess I'll run Vista 32-bit and plan to install three to five games, maybe Unreal Tournament III, Bioshock.. Bioshock 2 when it's released.

So it's basically a Windows Boot Camp for gaming and I plan to uninstall games after I've finished with them.

Windows On Mac :: 12.5GB Free Space - Boot Camp Drive

Dec 28, 2010

not luck finding an answer with search function or google. just covering my bases here. I'm running a Macbook Pro 13" with Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I made my partition 30GB when installing Windows, thinking it would be more than enough for what I needed, especially after reading this. Quote: I opted for 20GB, which left me with just a bit over 16GB to use after installing Windows 7. from: [URL:...] So I figured 30GB would mean I would have up to 26 GB of free space to play with after install. My problem is, I only have 12.5GB free space left over to play with and seemingly my Windows 7 installation is what, 17GB? I'm sort of thinking maybe for whatever reason there's a copy of my Windows 7 installation files somewhere on the partition that didn't get deleted, or all the expanded files used for installation are still sitting somewhere. Before I go ahead and delete the partition and reinstall Windows 7 again, I'd like to know if Windows7 is actually that bloody big and why on the guide I read it says it's only 4GB?

Windows On Mac :: Fixing Boot Camp/Fusion Space?

Feb 12, 2010

When I got my MacBook 1 1/2 years ago, I made a Boot Camp partition that I thought was 32 gigs to use with Fusion. I'm not doing much on Windows, but all my financial stuff is on MS Money, so I needed to have a way to access it. Over time, it seemed that the partition was getting smaller. Although (I thought) I'd allocated 32 gigs, the Windows partition was only 5.9 gigs, and I only had a few hundred MBs of that to work with, and Windows is constantly telling me I'm running out of space. So, I've been trying to figure out how to expand the partition.

I used Winclone successfully . . . except that because my Windows partition was formatted in FAT32, it went back to the original size of 5.9 gigs. Then, I followed the instructions to boot into the Windows HD and convert it, but when I went to do that, nothing happened. (I clicked on the Windows HD, and the screen went blank.) After that, I resigned myself to re-installing Windows and making the conversion then. The XP CD went through the whole set up and then said there was a disk error and wouldn't do anything.

I don't know what to do next. I have my xp partition back up, via Winclone, but I still have no space. I'm not that computer savvy, and I don't want to keep messing with it, but the current setup isn't sustainable.

Applications :: Using A Burned Windows XP Disc For Boot Camp?

Oct 30, 2009

I've tried installing XP on my MBP using Bootcamp, but I guess the XP CD that I have is actually an upgrade CD and not the full system CD that I need for Bootcamp.
Now, I am definitely going to ask around to see if anyone I know has a XP CD, which shouldn't be a problem, but just on the off chance I can't find one(will ebay have em?) could I torrent XP and just burn it to a disc and then insert that when Bootcamp tells me to?

Windows On Mac :: OE M XP Installation On Boot Camp -- Non System Disc Error?

Sep 6, 2008

I'm having problems with a Boot Camp partition and XP Professional SP2.

I setup a 20GB partition on my drive (I'm using a MacBook Pro, 3GB, 120GB hard drive). It's the only partition other than the one I use for OS X.

I didn't have full-install SP2 discs, only an upgrade. So I went to Fry's and bought a legal, new OEM disc and license for XP Professional SP2, full-install. I ran the installer and all went well...until I rebooted. At that point, Windows wouldn't load giving me a non-system disc error.

What I've Tried:

Deleted partition, recreate partition and choose the Windows 7 disk as startup disk.

Windows On Mac :: Getting Hard Drive Space Back - After Deleting Boot Camp Partition

Dec 27, 2009

I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I've attached some screenshots

OS X :: Trying To Install XP, Via Boot Camp?

Nov 1, 2008

Basically I'm trying to install XP, via Boot Camp.

I've followed the steps for Boot Camp e.g. Create Partition (i created a 25GB partition), then inserted the XP installation disk, as Boot Camp told me.

However, on start-up, the XP disk asks me to select which option I want to choose; e.g."A - Install Windows XP Professional SP2". It then asks me to choose what I want and press enter BUT the XP installation disk is not recognizing the keyboard.

Do any of you knowledgeable people know how to solve this problem? I wouldn't be installing XP if Microsoft did a Mac version of Flight Simulator.

OS X :: Can't Install XP On Boot Camp

I've been trying to install XP on my new i5 MacBook Pro but after it gets to the part where it says that it's rebooting and it will run automatically, it reboots and tells me to press any key to install XP. If I click that, it starts the installation over again. I found on the Microsoft KB [URL] that you can either remove the CD or not click a button when it tells you it will boot from CD. The problem is that if I do that, it says "Disk error" and I have to turn it off.

Windows On Mac :: Can't Install 7 With Boot Camp?

Jan 7, 2011

I thought maybe that has something to do with PAL vs. NTSC but both the iMac and the window 7 software were bought in Germany (where I live) so I just don't know.

Last year I also bought and installed Parallels on my iMac but never really used it. The reason I'd like to install windows is because I really need to learn AUTOCAD and it runs on windows.

I just mention it because I guess I have the option of using Parallels (though it still seems to have an old version of Vista on it and I can't get rid of it).

OS X :: Can't Install Windows In Boot Camp?

Mar 11, 2010

I have a Macbook and I had Windows XP on my Boot Camp partition, but I wanted to upgrade to Windows Vista because my friend recently found their Vista install disc. I backed up all of my information from my Windows partition on my external hard drive, booted the Apple side, and ran Boot Camp Assistant. It made the separate partition, but then when it asked me to install Windows it said insert the Windows install disc, so I did... but instead of my Macbook restarting and installing Windows... it restarts... then you hear the CD drive/optical drive speed up A LOT, then it slows down, and ejects my CD, instead of running the setup. I became so desperate to get Windows back on my Mac, that I tried installing Boot Camp with my friend's XP SP 2 install CD. No luck. I thought my CD drive was damaged but it's not.

For starters, the computer recognizes when I insert the XP & Vista CDs... it appears as, "XP_HOME_SP_2" with a CD icon on my desktop on the Mac side...

Windows On Mac :: Install Boot Camp Via USB?

May 16, 2010

I have used disk utility to take DMG files such as OSX and create a disk image onto the flash drive and upgrade / reinstall the OS on my mac.

I don't have any blank DVD's to burn the win 7 ISO onto so I tried doing the same by putting the ISO onto a flash drive and it doesn't work in Disk Utility. I tried doing it on a XP computer which was (I think) successful in putting the disk image onto the flash drive.

Now when I reboot and hold option I don't have any option to start up the computer other than the Mac HD.

I have installed Paragon to be able to read and write NTFS files / disks.

Does anyone know if its possible to install win 7 via USB onto a mac or am I wasting my time?

Windows On Mac :: Can't Install Boot Camp 3.1.3

Jul 20, 2010

I have a new MacBook Pro 13-inch mid-2010 model, and I noticed that when I am in Windows 7 and try to use my headphones through the audio jack, I get no sound. I looked on Apple's website, found the 3.1.3 patch which claims will fix headphone sound, downloaded it, but when I went to install it, I got this error:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

This is frustrating because I DO have Boot Camp 3.1.0 installed, which I assume is the version needed to upgrade, and Boot Camp IS installed. I also downloaded the 32-bit version as that is the version of Windows 7 I have, and just for jollies I tried the 64-bit version but that yielded the same error.

What am I doing wrong here? How can I install this patch? I would very much like to be able to have functional headphones.
