Hardware :: Connecting AirPort Express To Stream Music
Jan 22, 2010I have an existing Airport Extreme wireless network. I would like to connect an Airport Express to stream music through the house. Based, on the information that I have read in this forum, I just have to plug the Airport Express into an outlet near my receiver and then I have to run an audio in cable from the airport express to the receiver. That seems simple enough, but I am so confused when I look at the back of my receiver that I don't know where to plug the audio cable into.

Power Mac :: Stream Of Static Sound Coming From Speakers
May 31, 2012I have logitech speakers set up with my MacPro, and there is a steady stream of static noise coming from the computer. It's not the speakers because I have tested them with another device. It's definitely coming from my desktop. The strange thing is that if I restart my machine it goes away for a bit. But it starts back up as I open programs, browse the web, etc.

Aug 14, 2009I've got some old Altec Lansing surround sound speakers (4 + subwoofer) that I'd like to connect to my MBP, but I can't figure out what sort of adapter I'd need.
At the back of the subwoofer there's an empty port called "Diag," and two 3.5mm (it looks like) audio cords coming out of an "Input" port. I'm only used to dealing with singe 3.5mm cords.

Oct 2, 2009I used to have a White Macbook. This connected to my Sony Bravia via a Mini DVI-DVI, then a DVI-HDMI cable. The sound went from the headphone jack on the MB to two connectors on the TV (L&R). Job done.
Now I have a MBP and am trying the same thing. I have a Mini Displayport-HDMI cable, with the HDMI then going to the TV. I have the same audio connection. The result is perfect picture but no sound at all.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the sound working? I have the same issue with my unibody Macbook as well. These are the connections I have on the TV;

MacBook Pro :: Connecting MBP To HDTV Adapter - No Sound?
Mar 4, 2010pretty new to the Mac side of things. I got my MBP about 3 weeks ago I think. I got a mini display to hdmi adapter (off ebay, so this may be the problem). I hooked it up to my laptop and tv and it took me a while to find the mirroring box but I got that working so what's on my computer pops up on the tv. I go to play a tv show, and the sound is just on my computer. I went under system pref and sound but only "internal speakers" is available for the output. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just have a cheap adapter?

May 24, 2012I spent most of last night trying to get this done! No problems with the vision, cable between Macbook and HDMI input on the TV is fine. I have a 3.5mm Jack to Phono lead which I thought would work for the Audio. No sound. Maybe I'm not setting the Sony TV up properly, or I'm putting them in the wrong inputs (I've tried the all I think). There is a headphone (3.5mm) on the TV...but surely that's an output.

Mar 31, 2010Something strange is going on with my new current generation Mac Mini.
Since this morning I use a second display (Samsung P2450H) along my SyncMaster 226BW and whenever I watch something in QuickTime (or VLC for that matter) and I turn off one of the displays, the video starts to stutter occasionally. This happens both with HD and non-HD content.
Have no clue as to how this could happen, especially since System Profiler shows the displays to be powered on even when they actually are not

Jul 13, 2010I've owned my iMac for nearly 3 years now and it has never failed me, it's honestly the best computer I've ever owned, it simply works all the time. However flash seems to run quite laggy on it, especially in firefox. When watching HD videos on Vimeo it stutters quite a bit. I've made sure I'm running the newest version of flash. Does anyone else have this issue? I tried searching but not much came up.

This seems to have helped a little. Whereas the fan was on high speed as soon as the computer booted before the PRAM reset, after I did this, it is seems to kick in only after a browser is opened.Update the latest version of 10.6.I've checked the Activity Monitor--nothing seems to be eating up a lot of resources. It's 80 to 90% idle when the fan is revved up.The bottom does not feel hot. I'm not sure how to check the temperature monitors on a mac. I also don't know the mac command to check the CPU temp. (I'm more of a linux guy usually).
I think this is related--the day we noticed the fan, Hulu videos--not high def, just the middle range, 360 option), started stuttering. This is not a buffering problem, because the buffer is full. But the videos drop a few frames a second, or so it seems. The audio is ok, I think.I've updated Flash, but that did not help either problem.

Mar 4, 2009I'm desperately trying to get my 3 year old macbook to cooperate - it operates fine although it has been very slow lately but occasionally it will freeze and flash a blue screen, then either just remain frozen or shut down. When I try to turn it back on, it responds as normal, but as the desktop, wireless bars, etc start to load, the pinwheel comes up and then the screen flashes blue, and the whole process of loading the desktop starts over. This repeats endlessly until after turning on and off a few times and waiting about ten minutes it will finally turn back on- something is clearly up and I'm afraid I am going to lose data.

May 4, 2010I noticed my trackpad started acting funky last night. It won't happen right away when I turn my MBP on, but usually after some time (depends). First thing that happens: it responds slowly; it will move the pointer less than it would normally and it will judder along. Pressing harder doesn't help and sometimes two-finger scrolling won't work one way, or sometimes using my other finger will work better. After some more time, it will stop responding entirely or get unusably slow. I noticed restarting fixes it (temporarily; once again, it depends). Just before posting this, it happened until it didn't want to work at all, and I let it sit for a few minutes, came back, and it worked fine. Ten or so minutes later, its still working (no restart). It's troubling and I'll probably take it to an Apple Store to have it checked out, but I won't have time to do that for some time, so I'd like to see if this is possibly something well-known or fixable.
I thought it might be dirty, but I cleaned it, well, a few times, and still nothing. My hands are clean, too. I thought it might be something I "spilled" onto my keyboard a few days earlier; it wasn't anything watery, it was a rather thick consistency. I hope that isn't it, as I cleaned it quick and well, and it wasn't on the trackpad, and the keyboard works perfectly. The only thing I was doing when it first happened was video chatting via MSN (MSN gets my Mac hot, and I was worried it was the heat that did something, but IDK for sure). I only started using MSN about a week ago, and it gets my Mac really heated each time I use it. I did some searching on Google about this, but nothing quite like my situation. I haven't looked at everything, but, nothing yet.

Jul 22, 2010My kids made a video, edited it in iMovie and burned it to a CD. When we put the cd into our macbook pro and play it through QT Player the video pauses and stutters and the audio is not synced up to the lips, and that's if and when the audio does come on. The CD is fine as it does play as it should on the pc desktop that we have. What are we doing wrong?

Dec 13, 2009This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

There seems to be no loss of performance. I did a disk verify and everything is OK. Should I be concerned?
