Mar 13, 2010Let me preemptively state that I know very little about computers. This problem is most likely easy to fix, but I wouldn't know where to start. We have wireless internet here in my house, and my MacBook will not connect to it. It's a Netgear router, and my Mac tells me I need a password to connect to it. We don't have a password set on our router. So, every time it tries to connect, it says that an error occurred. How do I get rid of this password thing? I just want to use the WiFi!

Feb 4, 2009I just purchased a new Mac Pro (); however, I was a little disappointed with the sound card for a $3000 machine. I was previously using an older home-built PC with a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI sound card. Would I be able to swap this sound card into my Mac Pro? I'm not looking to improve the sound quality so much; rather I'd just like to use all of my 5.1 speakers. I figure I've paid for 5.1 speakers, so I may as well use all of them instead of the 2.1 I'm limited to with the ports built in on the Mac Pro.

Aug 14, 2009I've got some old Altec Lansing surround sound speakers (4 + subwoofer) that I'd like to connect to my MBP, but I can't figure out what sort of adapter I'd need.
At the back of the subwoofer there's an empty port called "Diag," and two 3.5mm (it looks like) audio cords coming out of an "Input" port. I'm only used to dealing with singe 3.5mm cords.
MacBook Pro :: Connecting To Sony Bravia - No Sound
Oct 2, 2009I used to have a White Macbook. This connected to my Sony Bravia via a Mini DVI-DVI, then a DVI-HDMI cable. The sound went from the headphone jack on the MB to two connectors on the TV (L&R). Job done.
Now I have a MBP and am trying the same thing. I have a Mini Displayport-HDMI cable, with the HDMI then going to the TV. I have the same audio connection. The result is perfect picture but no sound at all.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the sound working? I have the same issue with my unibody Macbook as well. These are the connections I have on the TV;

MacBook Pro :: Connecting MBP To HDTV Adapter - No Sound?
Mar 4, 2010pretty new to the Mac side of things. I got my MBP about 3 weeks ago I think. I got a mini display to hdmi adapter (off ebay, so this may be the problem). I hooked it up to my laptop and tv and it took me a while to find the mirroring box but I got that working so what's on my computer pops up on the tv. I go to play a tv show, and the sound is just on my computer. I went under system pref and sound but only "internal speakers" is available for the output. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just have a cheap adapter?

May 24, 2012I spent most of last night trying to get this done! No problems with the vision, cable between Macbook and HDMI input on the TV is fine. I have a 3.5mm Jack to Phono lead which I thought would work for the Audio. No sound. Maybe I'm not setting the Sony TV up properly, or I'm putting them in the wrong inputs (I've tried the all I think). There is a headphone (3.5mm) on the TV...but surely that's an output.

I need to make sure my computer is taken well care of. I don't want it to have files and things all over the place in the next 6 months and something happens. Windows you need it for sure. Used windows for over who knows how many years. BUT with a MAC no one can give a definite answer? Why is that? I getting confused and getting annoyed. First someone said that you don't need it as the computer does it for you 'overnight'. Then, there is some who says to do it every 2 weeks?
IMac :: I7 - Weekly SMC Reset Required?
Apr 24, 2010It's happened twice this month - my CPU fans will suddenly rev up to 4,000 RPM, and iStatPro will show the CPU temperature as "--". The first time it happened, I was worried that the machine got too hot. The second time, I had just sat down at the computer in the morning... the top of it was hardly even warm.
Both times, after shutting down and rebooting the fans went back to normal, but the computer performed poorly in graphical tasks such as rendering and gaming until I do an SMC reset, which brings it back to normal.

Jun 7, 2012So, my 5 year old iMac's become outdated bec. I have Tiger and OSX 10.4.11.Mac's moving my email to "the cloud" and I cannot upgrade to Lion, which is required. Is buying a new computer my only option? Or, can this machine be manually upgraded with new parts?
