Software :: Snow Leopard Work On Intel Core Duo?
Aug 24, 2009
My brother has the first generation of the iMacs that has a Core duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Will snow leopard work on it? On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.

I'm thinking about splitting the cost of a family pack with a couple friends and want to know what you all think about running Snow Leopard on a 2.16 Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with 2 GB of ram and 100 GB HD. Will it be run smoothly and correctly? Has anyone done this? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

I have the following system spec on my Macbook Pro which i bought in Apr 2006:
2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
2 G 667 Mhz SDRam
I would like to know if Snow Leopard will run on my system. I have been getting a few glitches for the last while when running internet related searches for certain sites like Youtube, and sometimes with streaming video. I figured that maybe i need a more up to date OS as i've been a bit slack with updating it.
Info:
macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), None

Aperture 3 runs as a 64-bit application on Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Macs with Intel Core 2 Duo processors.Does that mean that Aperture 3 won't run as a 64-bit app under OSX.6 on quad-core machines (like the top-of-the-line i5 iMac)? They can't be serious!

In a few weeks time I'm getting my Mac Mini upgraded to 2GB memory for Snow Leopard when it comes out. My Mac Mini is a 2006 Intel Core Solo model, and in September I'll be wanting to buy Snow Leopard but I want to be 100% sure that my Mac Mini will be able to install Snow Leopard since its DVD media. I know I can't burn DVDs with this Mac Mini but, although may seem like a stupid question will I be able to install Snow Leopard with it being DVD media.

I've got a 1.83 GHz 17" iMac and for all intents and purposes it fits the "Intel Processor" requirement for Snow Leopard but it isn't a true '64 bit' processor(?) like the later Intel chips... anyone installed the new OS on a similar machine and can report any major differences in speed (or not)?

I've got a 27" iMac quad-core i7 running Lion and a Sony VPL-CX5 video projector. The projector is no longer support by Sony and Lion doesn't have an included driver to make it recognize the projector as a display device. I'm trying to find some sort of adaptor that the iMac will recognize as a display that will send a video or s-video (or even vga) signal to the projector.

My one week old iMac 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. first started problems by not goping to sleep even when I forced it.
I shut it down using the shut off button and unplugging it from power for more than 5 munites.
I turned it back on, it does the usual startup chime and then gray screen. I have restarted twice from the shot off button and still getting the same result.

I am currently running Tiger on my Mac and purchased Snow Leopard thinking I could make this leap. However, I have been informed that I cannot update it because I do not have an Intel core. I have a PowerPC G5. What steps do I need to take? Is there a differnt version of Snow Leopard or do I need to purchase Leopard first?

Every few weeks my iMac will suddenly freeze, the screen going black or white or pink etc. The only way I can get the computer back is to hold down the power button to force a shutdown. Then after a restart everything is OK for a few more weeks. Usually it occurs when I am on the internet. I click on something and suddenly the computer is frozen. I am on OS X 10.6.8 and usually use Safari. Ironically when I opened this forum 5 minutes ago there was a similar sounding problem at the top of the list!

The ivy bridge processors are coming out soon (or may already be out). I have heard that macbook pro 13" models might be able to use the new processers due to their lower energy useage. I presume that I will be able to take my mac to an apple store and have it installed. Is this information true?

first, I didnt know if this thread should be here or in Buying Tips, but anyway. My doubt is about the brand new 27 iMacs processor, If I should buy a more GHz one, but with only two cores, or should I buy little bit less GHz one, but with four cores.
It really worth pay $200 more? It really worth the four cores? My main needs are run CS4, some Final Cut, maybe Logic Studio, and switch between different OS's (OS X, Windows, and Linux). I think even a 21.5 model would be more than enough, but I just wonder If Quad Core gonna give me more power (I hope so).
