when i insert my DVD into my ROM, i doesn't boot from it, and it ejects automatically, i can boot other OS, Like WIndows or Linux, if i take to service somewhere it costs alot, the boot page (White page, by holding "Alt Option Key") doesn't recognize the DVD, and it does other OS DVDs.

i have a macbook pro 13" from around august 2010. i'm happily running 10.6.8 on it but i need to do my anual clean install.
however, i've lost my original install disc. is there a way around this? is there a way i can order a replacement?
i have a retail bought snow leopard dvd but this wont work as it's older than the machine.
I've got a 1.83 GHz 17" iMac and for all intents and purposes it fits the "Intel Processor" requirement for Snow Leopard but it isn't a true '64 bit' processor(?) like the later Intel chips... anyone installed the new OS on a similar machine and can report any major differences in speed (or not)?

I had to move around data and now I have a ton of aliases to fix. I know you can fix an alias by doing "get info" and find original but the window that opens hides the original path and can't be moved. Further more I'd simply need to edit out the first part of the "original" location. I thought opening an alias in textedit would allow me to do that easily but it's unreadable. how I could fix these quickly instead of browsing deep in folder structure to find them again?

I'm thinking about splitting the cost of a family pack with a couple friends and want to know what you all think about running Snow Leopard on a 2.16 Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with 2 GB of ram and 100 GB HD. Will it be run smoothly and correctly? Has anyone done this? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

As title, can it be done ? officially it says no, but iv read around some forums where people are saying it has been done in a 2x 2gb config, I ask as architecturally core duo can support 4gb and does on old IBM laptops of the same t2500 processor (2ghz), so im asking if there is anyone that can confirm this for me ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsually pick up a new mac tower ~4yrs or so and now that im halfway through usually more or less max it to the hilt to last me. Lately havnt had the time focus on trends of who's putting out the most rock solid drives, ram, and what the best setups are...so would appreciate some feedback on my simple upgrade project for the home office...My usage is primarily heavy photography in pshop, lightroom, etc and moderate HD video editing in FCP.
First off think its time finally replace my wrt54g linksys router with one that supports NAS via usb, firewire, or ethernet... Eyeballing the 610n. Goal is to backup my data via time machine over the network now.
So for this effort i'd like to pick up 2 external 1.5tb or 1tb drives here in order to support the time machine backups, suggestions? Currently have a couple seagate 500gb externals in raid 1 via usb directly into my tower for time machine backup purposes and they are low on space. I would most likely raid 1 these as well for redundancy. What's the deal on raid 5 & 10, do the basic osx disc utilities support that yet?
Current spec on the quad core mac pro tower is the stock 250gb drive used only for the OS and apps, plus a couple 500gb seagate drives.Like to pull the 2 internal seagate drives and replace with 4 of the most reliable 1tb or 1.5tb internal drives on the market, seagate & wd have usually treated me right. Like to run raid 0 on each of the 2 pairs internally for speed so id essentially have about ~2 tb of daily workable space. Are the 2tb drives there yet in terms of reliability & value?
Lastly as for ram, risers a & b both are paired with 512 in each slot for 2gb total. Thinking 8gb would probably be sufficient for my purposes. Where are the best ram deals currently for the quality stuff.Budget isnt too much of an issue, prefer to pay few bux more quality instead of crap though im a frugal spender. Figure ~100-200ea for the internal drives, bit more for the externals, ~300 for couple 4gb ram modules,~200 for the router...
My brother has the first generation of the iMacs that has a Core duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Will snow leopard work on it? On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.

Aperture 3 runs as a 64-bit application on Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Macs with Intel Core 2 Duo processors.Does that mean that Aperture 3 won't run as a 64-bit app under OSX.6 on quad-core machines (like the top-of-the-line i5 iMac)? They can't be serious!

Every few weeks my iMac will suddenly freeze, the screen going black or white or pink etc. The only way I can get the computer back is to hold down the power button to force a shutdown. Then after a restart everything is OK for a few more weeks. Usually it occurs when I am on the internet. I click on something and suddenly the computer is frozen. I am on OS X 10.6.8 and usually use Safari. Ironically when I opened this forum 5 minutes ago there was a similar sounding problem at the top of the list!

Trying to set up the Software Update Server under 10.6.8 Server. Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

One of the biggest gripes i have with Leopard is Spotlight. I have a 4gb usb drive i put mp3s on to listen to in my car and every time i plug it in Spotlight starts indexing it which means i get stuck with slower read/write speeds until it is done. Is there any way in 10.6 to turn off Spotlight for external drives?
