Software :: SD Card Won't Mount - Recover Files

May 20, 2007

I have a SD card that has some files on it that I need. When I put it in my card reader and plug it into the USB it doesnt mount. I tried it in another card reader and it wont work in that one either. I opened Disk Utility and it shows that it mounts it for a split second and shows the size, but then it disappears from the list. I really need these files. Is there any way to recover them?

OS X :: Recover Data From Hard Drive That Won't Mount?

Jun 19, 2009

Long story short I dropped my 500GB Maxtor external HD (which is really just an internal HD in a chase). The drop was about 3 ft. It was not on so I don't think there will be much damage to the disk, but it no longer mounts. I was wondering if anyone could think of a way to get the disk to mount so I can recover files saved to it. I have Tech Tools, and Data Rescue II to recover the drive but as long it is not being recognized by the computer those applications are useless.

Hardware :: Unable To Mount Hard Drives / Cannot Recover Lost Data

Jan 6, 2010

I have a dead La Cie Big disk terabyte external drive. It won't mount and it isn't recoverable the way it is. So I looked inside, it's 2 x 500 gig Seagate drives. So, I took the 2 drives out and installed one of them in a Mac Pro to see if it would mount on it's own. I figured probably not, since there were two drives mounted in this La Cie external case, they must have been RAID-ed together. I don't really know much about RAID, obviously.

Disk utility saw the disk, but it wouldn't mount and gave the unreadable message. Tried to disk utility it, and it gave file system errors, not surprised. It looks like you can't separate them, the RAID must split the files onto the two disks.

Is there any point to trying the utility Data Recovery on it? Or should I just tell my boss the only way to get the data back is to send it out to a data recovery place? I don't want to try and reformat them if there is still any possible way to get the data off them. I think the drives are fine and would work as a terabyte drive in the Fantom case if reformatted, but then we lose all these important projects. We seem to have the worst luck with external hard drives.

The odd thing is that I have another dead terabyte drive, a Fantom drive in which one of the 500 gig drives started clicking. I took both 500 gig WD drives out of the Fantom case and installed the two Seagate 500s from the dead La Cie case. It shows up in Disk Utility as an unformatted 1T drive. I was hoping it might just reconstitute itself in another case, but no go. If worse comes to worse, I will reformat it and it will probably be useable.

OS X :: Any Way To Mount Damaged SD Card?

May 16, 2010

I have an A-Data brand 16 gig SDHC card which became corrupted/damaged in my Canon S90 (it looks like a lot of people are having problems with this card). When I put the card into the card reader attached to my Mac Pro, the volume does not show up on the desktop, or appear at all under Disk Utility. No error message of any kind pops up. If I look in Console, I see the following messages:

Code:

USBF:28725.906AppleUSBEHCI[0x1208e800]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0xfd, timing out! (Addr: 5, EP: 0)
The last two continue to repeat.

I have tried a variety of card recovery programs on my Mac, and on the Windows side booted under VMWare. But since the card is not mounting at all, none of these programs can see the card to try to recover anything. I really would like to recover these photos.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Mount USB / Memory Card

Feb 12, 2010

This morning, I had to print off some pictures from my digital camera for my art class, so I stuck my memory card (1 GB) into the slot, and it worked just fine. The other day, I plugged my LG Lotus into my MBP via USB and it also worked normally. Tonight, I tried to connect my phone once again, and it didn't mount. So, I tried the memory card in an adapter and it didn't mount either! My MBP isn't old at all (got it at the end of November '09)!

OS X :: Memory Card Will Not Mount (Possibly Corrupt)

Jan 31, 2010

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get a 4gb Memory Stick Duo to mount on my macbook running 10.6.2. My camera doesn't recognise the card when inserted and neither does my macbook. When I try connect it to the macbook I get the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with three options of: Initialise, Ignore, Eject. When I view the card in disk utility the repair and verify disk are greyed out as the screen shot shows. It says it is a 33mb disk when it should be 4gb and the SMART status is not supported and Partition Map scheme says it is unformatted. The format should be FAT (I think). It seems the card could be corrupted in some way or worse dead. Is there anyway of trying to recover the files, which are all photos?

Hardware :: Desperately Need Memory Card To Mount To Mac

Mar 19, 2008

I went on vacation and tried to download images from my memory card onto my PC which has an integrated memory card reader. Unfortunately my PC froze for a few and when it finally came to (Believe it or not) I tried to cancel the automatic file transfer. When I did this I waited for the all clear to remove my memory card, but when I put it back into my PC it would not recognize it. It just kept giving me three consecutive pings. I tried to put the card back into the camera (Sony DSC Series), but when I turned the camera on, it gave me an error (Failure to read memory card). In doing research I was told that if I bought a card reader and hooked it up to my iMac, I would possibly be able to read the raw data and retrieve the images from it that way.

Well, The memory card reader works ( I tried it with a different Sony memory card), but does not even recognize that my card is even in it. Even disk utility does not see it. Anyway, as a man trying to salvage some dignity from his female companion, I told her not to worry, I would do my best to get the images off the card. I don't however want to spend an outrageous amount of money to do it. I have pretty good luck with Google and other searches, but I am starting to believe that I am the only person in the universe who can't seem to get my Mac to see the card. Is it possible to get the images off of the card? Is it possible to do it without spend an arm and a leg? Photo Rescue does not work and neither does Stellar Phoenix. If I could get my Mac to see the card that might be a different story.

IMac :: (New 2010 System) Cannot Mount Mini PCI ESata Card

Nov 19, 2010

My buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports.

I only Lexar Professional Compact Flash cards, so I have to use an external card reader. My 2010 Macbook Pro has no problems reading all 3 of my external card readers. If I plug in an SD card to the external card reader nothing happens, but if I insert the SD card straight into the iMac it can recognize the card immediately. What am I doing wrong?

Hardware :: Recover Data From Dead Lacie Hard Drive / Unable To Mount Hard Drive

Sep 6, 2009

Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.

Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.

Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.

I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.

OS X :: How Can I Recover Files?

Sep 7, 2010

I've had my iMac for a few years now and have not upgraded the software from the osX 10.4.7 that it came with.

Recently it has decided not to boot, it just stays on the grey screen with the apple logo and spinning symbol.

I booted frrom the install CDs and choose the option of saving past user data but it keeps getting to a point where it says error please try again.

I've tried setting the computer as a target drive and reading the drive through another mac. The hard drive is recognised but I cannot access it.

I have several gb worth of photos I don't want to lose and I also have some work stuff, nothing massive in terms of file sizes.

How can I recover these files?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Dmg Files Are Not Executable - Need To Reinstall It ( But Will Mount)

Apr 18, 2012

iMac 27, 2.8 Quad Core, 16 GB RAM, 3 TB HD running 10.7.3 lead in > Lately I am having trouble with Aperture 3.2.3 who doesn't let me make some image adjustments "out of the blue". To correct this I usially have to reinstall Aperture from scratch. Trying to do so made me find out that I can't execute the Aperture trial 3.1 dmg file or any other dmg file on my iMac. When i double klick on a dmg file it will flash once and then just sit there doing nothing. The dmg "Get Info" window shows that the file is associated with the DiskImageMounter.app as supposed to. I have no glue why it won't execute these files and open the installer. I have tried everything from executing with disk image to repair permissions etc, etc. and I have read all forums and threats I could find but to no avail.

The only way to fix this is reinstalling OSX 10.7.3. After reinstalling Lion everything is just fine  - for a while. I am able to reinstall aperture with the trial version dmg file. All other dmg files will also execute. For now I was able to work with my reinstalled system for the last seven days with no glitches, but last night same problem occured as described earlier. I have also checked my harddrive with disk utility and onyx. Both apps say HD is just fine.
