I am downloading the dmg files (Mac dvd player and vlc, because somebody deleted my dvd app and I don't have the original disks) with a windows pc which is apparently fine (I've try to transfer with both memory stick and cdr) and I've used disk utility to repair the hd and to repair permissions and still nothing!
I have a SD card that has some files on it that I need. When I put it in my card reader and plug it into the USB it doesnt mount. I tried it in another card reader and it wont work in that one either. I opened Disk Utility and it shows that it mounts it for a split second and shows the size, but then it disappears from the list. I really need these files. Is there any way to recover them?
iMac 27, 2.8 Quad Core, 16 GB RAM, 3 TB HD running 10.7.3 lead in > Lately I am having trouble with Aperture 3.2.3 who doesn't let me make some image adjustments "out of the blue". To correct this I usially have to reinstall Aperture from scratch. Trying to do so made me find out that I can't execute the Aperture trial 3.1 dmg file or any other dmg file on my iMac. When i double klick on a dmg file it will flash once and then just sit there doing nothing. The dmg "Get Info" window shows that the file is associated with the DiskImageMounter.app as supposed to. I have no glue why it won't execute these files and open the installer. I have tried everything from executing with disk image to repair permissions etc, etc. and I have read all forums and threats I could find but to no avail.
The only way to fix this is reinstalling OSX 10.7.3. After reinstalling Lion everything is just fine - for a while. I am able to reinstall aperture with the trial version dmg file. All other dmg files will also execute. For now I was able to work with my reinstalled system for the last seven days with no glitches, but last night same problem occured as described earlier. I have also checked my harddrive with disk utility and onyx. Both apps say HD is just fine.

If I try to mount almost any DMG file I just get an error message saying that there is no mountable file system. I know that these are not corrupt dmg files because these are ones that I have mounted before, it affects almost every single one and more importantly if I reboot in Safe Mode every single one mounts perfectly.
Clearly then something is running in normal mode that is preventing dmg's from mounting but I don't know how to find out what. I went to System Properties>User & Groups>Login Items and removed everything that was there but that was just iTunes Helper and something called WDC something or other which was unchecked anyway and is just a utility that controls my external hard drives. With everything removed and rebooted still DMG files won't mount.
Safe Mode = DMG's mount
Normal Mode = DMG's won't mount.
how I can find out what is causing this problem and/or how to fix it as it's annoying as **** and preventing me from easily updating software.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 3.1Ghz Quad-Core Intel core i5
I recently sold my macbook pro. In the meantime, I have reverted to using a 7 year old ibook (running 10.4.11) for ichat, email, etc...I have a .dmg that is a backup of the macbook pro, and I wanted to mount it and pull some files off it. Despite the fact that it would take days to mount on the ibook, I was wondering if it is possible to mount a 100GB dmg on a hardrive that is only 80GB?
Something must have changed with the last software update I did. The DMG files now open in Disk Utility instead of automatically mounting when I double-click. Not really a show-stopper as I can still mount thru D.U. but kind of annoying... I am on Leopard.
im having issues when attempting to open/mount all DMG files on Tiger. I get "the disk image failed cause its not recognized". Can anyone shed some light on this one?
I'm using a 2GHz PowerPC G5, OS X 10.4.11, with 1 GB on one dimm. I cannot open ANY .dmg files. I have tried clicking the image, and also on a clean download used "open with" each time I received the following message The following disk image failed to mount Reason: Device not configured
I have followed the instructions in this thread:- Disk image failed to mount: Device not configured. Firstly Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Click on "Macintosh HD" in the left column and then press the "Repair Disk Permissions" button. Delete the file called /System/Library/Extension.kextcache Delete the folder called /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/ Restart
That made no difference. I then tried bobw's advice here Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed" Panther - Disk Image "mounting Failed". That made no difference. I have since gone on to justanswer.com and the advice I received was to do an archive and install and then a full combo update.
Have a number of PC-created CD RW disks (UDF format) backups. Some will mount on the Mac Pro (Superdrive, Apple shipped, Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D). Those that don't mount can't be ejected except during a Restart. Disk Utility can't do anything with it--all useful options are grayed out. The drive appears in Disk Utility, as does the disk, but it's grayed out too.
Currently running 10.5.1, skype crashes all the time as soon as I try to call or IM. Same for YHOO msgr. So I thought I go for an upgrade and downloaded the last update to 10.5.4 (560MB). As soon as I try to install the file the updater gets stuck in the first window (configuring installation). I left it alone because I thought it might needs some more time (Powerbook G4.1.5, 12"). Nope, after 3 hours still no moving along for the bar and I just end up shutting the machine down via the power button. I really would love to use skype and the other msgrs again, get the upgrade to work. Download the patch again? I don't even know where the already downloaded patch sits, if I can't install it I will certainly like to delete the 560MB.
I tried searching for a solution for this and can't find any. I've seen one other threat in here about similar problems but the variables in my case are different. Here's the thing, a friend of mine lent me her usb pen-drive. She uses it on a pc mostly at work. When she gave it to me she forgot to copy some files i needed so she plugged it into her macbook pro (one of the new ones from this year, intel, snow leopard and stuff), copied the files i needed on it and i took it home. I have an intel imac, bought on april 2009. I plugged the usb pen-drive on my keyboard usb port and nothing happened. So i took it out, plugged it in again and nada. I did it a 3rd time and this time it showed me a message saying that this pen-drive needed more power and i had to try plugging it into a different usb port. So i plugged it in the back of my imac and nothing happened, not even the "insufficient power" message. It doesn't mount, won't show up in the desktop nor in the sidebar of a finder window.
I checked the disk utility and the pen-drive shows up there. I see the "main" pen-drive and it's "partition" (i dunno how to call it... mmm... you know, like you're seeing the "parent" drive and its "son" drive but they're "one and the same") and i can see its tech info and i noticed it's formatted NTFS. Since it worked just fine on my friend's macbook pro, i can't figure out why isn't it working in my imac. I know macs can't write NTFS, only read (mine doesn't at least) but hers wrote info in the pen-drive no prob. Another thing i noticed is that the "son" drive is grayed out. I can see its tech info but it's grayed out. Verifying the drive simply shows a message saying "Verify volume failed: Invalid request.".
So, i have no clue as to what's going on. I could give it back and ask my friend to format it as journal or whatever it's called to be mac os compatible and copy the info back again, but i don't know if that'd be a solution until i'm able to try it in a few days. Can't ask her to format it fat32 since the file i need is larger than 4gb, so yeah. Any clues as to what could be the problem? I even tried unplugging any usb peripherals and no dice.
I understand macs can mount .iso with a simple double click, but I want my macbook to treat an iso file as if it were a CD in the cd drive. This is easily done on a C with PowerISO or Alcohol120% I should be able to do it on a mac too, shouldn't I? But I can't seem to figure out how to. When I double click the iso to just mount it, it mounts fine, i can access files and everything, but if I run a program that reads of the CD i of course get the "Please insert CD". Now, I have the CD right here, that's no big problem, but the using drive kills the battery life like nothing else.
I recently Installed Windowns on my MBP via boot camp and I also installed a MacDrive 5 day trial version so I could move some files from the external (1Tb WD My book pro) to the windows side. Everything went smoothly and then after my file transfers on the windows side, then in a hurry I just unplugged the firewire cable and shut the mac down. Now when I start up in OS X the drive doesn't mount. I starts up ok and then the only thing I see is a task called "fsck_hfs" eating up my CPU and memory. The drive works fine in windows with Macdrive so it's not a HD failure because all of my files are still there and usable, It's jut that Leopard can't see the darn thing. So how could I get Leopard to see the HD again without re-formating and losing all my files on it?
I have an interesting problem in that my USB drives aren't mounting to the desktop. I've tried two separate flash drives and an external hard drive. When I check Disk Utility, I can highlight the drives and click 'mount' and the 'mount' button will darken for a few moments as though things are working but then the button just returns to its normal state and the drive still does not appear on the desktop. Despite this, Disk Utility's log shows the message 'Mount of "xxxx" succeeded' every time. Disk Utility sees the drives (obviously) and will verify them. Only mounting appears not to work. Meanwhile, I can plug my Wacom tablet into the very same USB port and it (the tablet) works perfectly. My iPods and iPhone will sync just fine from the same port. Why is this happening and, more to the point, what should I try in order to fix it? I know it's not a simple matter of restarting because I've done that a number of times already without success no matter what Disk Utility says.
I've got a 250GB Lacie External, firewire 600 drive.
Since I installed snow leopard on my iMac it doesn't show on the desktop or in the finder window anymore! The thing is, it shows on the iMac at work which is exactly the same age, spec and operating system version!
So, i'll try to be as detailed as possible. I have been using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB portable hard drive (reformatted to HFS+) with my 13" Macbook Pro for a while now. I use my computer to rip my DVDs and put them on the hard drive to play on my Xbox 360. Things were working great until it stopped mounting on my Macbook (or any other computer running OS X). The strange part is that it is still recognized in disk utility, but when i try to "mount" it it says something to the effect of "an error has occurred, try repairing the disk". However, when i attempt to repair the disk it says that it is fine. Also, i have tried to use an external power source so power is not the issue.
With my iMac here and I'm trying to mount an iso file however when I click on the autorun.exe in the folder, it just opens in texted it format. I just want it to run.
I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Herron under VMWare fusion. I'm giving it a test drive to see what its all about. I installed it from the disk image I downloaded from Canonical website. Anyway, I can't get Ubuntu to mount CDs. This works fine with WIndows XP running under fusion.
I wonder if the installation was corrupted or something. The installation seemed to go well but the Ubuntu file was huge. Some linux versions have a way to verify the file prior to installation but I didn't see a way to do so for Ubuntu.
After downloading the 10.5.8 Combo update I click on it to launch and I get an error message that the .dmg failed to mount b/c it was "not recognized".
I just got an iomega home media network hdd (1tb) and i wanted to back up my macbook pro tht runs on OS X (10.6)
i installed their retrospect (6.1) software and conected the drive with the lan cable provieded by iomega and i did evrything they told me, but the drive doesnt not mount.
my computer doesnot detect the dive and a red light flashes on the drive in between the blue light (which is the only light tht should flash)
I bought two 1Tb Western Digital "My Book" drives. I have plugged them into my MacMini, but no matter what I do only one of them will mount at a time. I'm wanting to mount both so that I can create a RAID with them. Is there any reason why I can't mount both of them?
I'm running an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.4 . It is used mainly as a database server. The database lives on an external hard drive. The problem is that Mac OS X does not mount the external drive until I log in locally. Logging in via SSH is not enough. Does anyone know how I can make OS X mount the external hard drive even if no one logs in?
I knocked my external off the desk. Smash, buggered that hard drive. So I bought a new drive, made sure it was the same drive, installed it fine. But it's not mounting. The blue access light on the front just flashes continuously, but the drive won't mount so I can format it.
I'm going to be receiving my new Mac Pro soon and a friend has some 74GB 2.5" SAS drives that I am considering using for some fast storage. How would I go about mounting these up in the 3.5" Mac Pro drive bays?
I have this sans digital USB towerraid enclosure, with one, 1TB drive in it. It's formated as NTFS. It was working just fine, but for some reason, I went to connect it to a windows machine today and it basically froze up the computer. so i tried a few things, and it was still freezing the computer. So i connect it to my macbook pro where it normally is, and when it tries to mount the device i get an error from NTFS-3G. I added an attachment of the error it gives. I tried inserting the command line it suggests in terminal , but it didn't really do anything. I'm not really familiar with terminal or how to use it fully.
