OS X :: How To Mount Disk Using Express Card

Jul 26, 2009

I bought an Express card from here: [URL] I connected an eSATA drive to it. I don't see the drive in Finder and I suspect I need to format it first. But I don't see an equivalent to the Windows Disk Manager. How do I format the new external drive?

Mac :: MBP Express Card 34 Speed And SSD Express Card?

Two questions, wondering if anyone knows the answer:1.Looking for maximum bandwidth of ExpressCard/34 slot in MacBook Pro(Since eSATA raid is supported with ExpressCard, the bandwidth should be there. Looks like it has at least 70MB read/write?)2. Are there ExpressCard/34 SSD disks that runs faster than internal SATA drives? (Mtron seems to make only 2.5" and 3.5")

Can anybody share any links to what FW card to get to and where I can buy it from? Anything that does not cost to much? Please only post links of cards you have used or read good reviews using it on a Mac Pro. Also what slot would I put the card in? I want to make sure the slot is not also sharing a bus with something else.

OS X :: Any Way To Mount Damaged SD Card?

May 16, 2010

I have an A-Data brand 16 gig SDHC card which became corrupted/damaged in my Canon S90 (it looks like a lot of people are having problems with this card). When I put the card into the card reader attached to my Mac Pro, the volume does not show up on the desktop, or appear at all under Disk Utility. No error message of any kind pops up. If I look in Console, I see the following messages:

Code:
USBF:28693.905AppleUSBUHCI[0x11f5b000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0x1d, timing out! (Addr: 0, EP: 0)

The last two continue to repeat.

I have tried a variety of card recovery programs on my Mac, and on the Windows side booted under VMWare. But since the card is not mounting at all, none of these programs can see the card to try to recover anything. I really would like to recover these photos.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Mount USB / Memory Card

Feb 12, 2010

This morning, I had to print off some pictures from my digital camera for my art class, so I stuck my memory card (1 GB) into the slot, and it worked just fine. The other day, I plugged my LG Lotus into my MBP via USB and it also worked normally. Tonight, I tried to connect my phone once again, and it didn't mount. So, I tried the memory card in an adapter and it didn't mount either! My MBP isn't old at all (got it at the end of November '09)!

OS X :: Memory Card Will Not Mount (Possibly Corrupt)

Jan 31, 2010

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get a 4gb Memory Stick Duo to mount on my macbook running 10.6.2. My camera doesn't recognise the card when inserted and neither does my macbook. When I try connect it to the macbook I get the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with three options of: Initialise, Ignore, Eject. When I view the card in disk utility the repair and verify disk are greyed out as the screen shot shows. It says it is a 33mb disk when it should be 4gb and the SMART status is not supported and Partition Map scheme says it is unformatted. The format should be FAT (I think). It seems the card could be corrupted in some way or worse dead. Is there anyway of trying to recover the files, which are all photos?

Hardware :: Desperately Need Memory Card To Mount To Mac

Mar 19, 2008

I went on vacation and tried to download images from my memory card onto my PC which has an integrated memory card reader. Unfortunately my PC froze for a few and when it finally came to (Believe it or not) I tried to cancel the automatic file transfer. When I did this I waited for the all clear to remove my memory card, but when I put it back into my PC it would not recognize it. It just kept giving me three consecutive pings. I tried to put the card back into the camera (Sony DSC Series), but when I turned the camera on, it gave me an error (Failure to read memory card). In doing research I was told that if I bought a card reader and hooked it up to my iMac, I would possibly be able to read the raw data and retrieve the images from it that way.

Well, The memory card reader works ( I tried it with a different Sony memory card), but does not even recognize that my card is even in it. Even disk utility does not see it. Anyway, as a man trying to salvage some dignity from his female companion, I told her not to worry, I would do my best to get the images off the card. I don't however want to spend an outrageous amount of money to do it. I have pretty good luck with Google and other searches, but I am starting to believe that I am the only person in the universe who can't seem to get my Mac to see the card. Is it possible to get the images off of the card? Is it possible to do it without spend an arm and a leg? Photo Rescue does not work and neither does Stellar Phoenix. If I could get my Mac to see the card that might be a different story.

IMac :: (New 2010 System) Cannot Mount Mini PCI ESata Card

Nov 19, 2010

My buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports.

OS X Mavericks :: New 4TB Disk Won't Mount

Sep 5, 2014

Bought a new 4TB external hard drive (USB 3.0). I need to use it with Time Machine. The instructions on Apple said to format as GUID. When I opened up Disk Utility to do this it started to format the drive as it normally would, and then out of no where it stopped and unmounted the drive. Now no matter what I try to do I can't mount it (even in windows).

If I unplug the drive and then plug it back in the "initialize" pop-up comes on screen, but even when I click Initialize it does nothing.

How do I get around this and format the drive?

Mac :: MBP 17" And Express Card Slot?

Apr 26, 2010

I have a question for you about the ExpressCard slot of the new MacBook Pros.. I'm going to buy (maybe today) my first Mac and I'd like to buy the 17", since I need a portable desktop replacement... one of the reasons why I'd like to buy the 17" (apart from the very nice screen resolution) is that it has an ExpressCard slot which enables you (I hope) to expand the capabilities of your MBP in the future... My question is if the ExpressCard is version 1 or 2, because I'd like to buy in the future an ExpressCard with USB 3 ports and only the ExpressCard 2 can support the specifications of USB 3 (5 Gbps), is it right? Do you think there will be USB 3 ExpressCards for the MBPs?

MacBook Pro :: USB 3 To Express-card Connectivity?

I have looked at several via internet searches though one of the key issues seems to be having a driver that works with 10.6.8. The aim is to connect a Sony XQD card reader to the MacBook Pro via USB 3/ExpressCard to take advantage of the USB 3 speed. Sony's own XQD ExpressCard adapter does not work with OS 10.6.8 (I've emailed Sony requesting 10.6.8 driver support.)

MacBook :: Startup Disk Cannot Mount?

Sep 19, 2010

I was surfing this site a couple of days ago when my MacBook suddenly froze up. I couldn't Force-Quit anything or do a soft restart, so I decided to just power-cycle restart (pressing the power button until it shut down, then pressing it again to start up). When I did so, my startup disk wouldn't mount.

I should give you a little background: Mine is a MacBook White early 2009, with upgraded 4GB RAM & 500GB 5400rpm Fujitsu HDD. I took the HDD from an off-the-shelf 2.5" external HDD. It has served me well for slightly over a year, and is only now giving me this problem.

I have since replaced the original HDD (which I was keeping as a emergency backup, phew) and put the problem HDD in an external FW enclosure.

I have run Disk Utility on it to try & rectify the problem. Disk First Aid says the disk is fine, but I just couldn't get it to mount. I thought I'd try to erase it and restore from my TM backup, but after I erased the disk, it still couldn't mount. What's worse, now the disk is apparently not writeable, and I can't even erase it. Disk First Aid is still telling me the disk is fine.

I've also tried booting from my SL install disk, but it won't mount the disk to install SL. It is still visible in Disk Utility, but greyed out.

Can anyone advise what I can do to recover the disk?

I can't really bring it in for a warranty exchange, cos I ripped this disk out of the original enclosure, so the enclosure is now completely busted, and obviously the warranty won't be honored. (Buying the external was cheaper than buying just the internal, and Fujitsu had a pretty OK reputation for their harddisks at that point. Could you blame me?)

So any software or hardware (or combination) solution would be great. Worst case scenario is to get a new HDD, but I'd still like to recover the use of this disk somehow.
