Software :: Making Movies With DVD Clips?

Oct 29, 2007

I was hoping someone here might know how/if I can use iMovie to create a presentation of various movie clips?

I don't know if it can be done with iMovie, but I've seen videos people have made by piecing together different scenes from movies, sometimes adding music... that sort of thing.

If iMovie can't do it, is there another program I can use? And if iMovie can, is it pretty simple to do a project like that?

I have iLife '06, I think. It's either '06 or '07. I also have Flash and Powerpoint. I don't know if those could work.

As you can tell, I'm a complete greenhorn when it comes to this.

Applications :: Video Editor For Assembling Clips And Rendering Into Movies?

Sep 12, 2010

I currently use iMovie version 6 to put low pixel rate (e.g. 480 x 360) clips together. I was wondering if FCP or some other app is much faster. I don't do much editing. Mostly just assemble chunks and render them into movies.

Applications :: Making Movies With AVI's In IMovie

Mar 8, 2009

I have loads of AVI files taken with our stillshot camera, and loads with our Panasonic semi professional 3 chip whatever they are called video camera.

It seems, or seemed perhaps that AVI's can't be loaded or edited in iMovie(I am also not interested in using quicktime etc, I want to try and stick with iMovie)

Can you import the AVI files as well as the "real" format clips into iMovie and then edit all together to make your home movie?

Applications :: Making VHS Home Movies Into IDVD?

Apr 26, 2010

I recently pulled all of my old home movies from VHS's to the computer with a roxio software. I have them in iMovie '09 and have edited them and what not. Next I wish to import them into iDVD to burn them to share. First off is there a good amount of video to export at a time? because I have massive amounts. Probably 10-15 clips of about 2-3 hours of movie a piece. Also when I go to export just one clip it eventually quits on me. Is this because they are too long or too big? They do measure up to be between 10-15gb.

Final Cut Pro X :: Editing Compound Clips - Earlier Clips On Timeline Missing

Jun 20, 2014

I have been editing compound clips and when I get half way through i notice early clips in the timeline are missing.  So if there is clips ABCD in a connected clip, it will be now AC and the other clips are now gone.  I've pressed undo until i saw when they were deleted and it seems when i'm selecting clips later in the timeline it selects earlier clips and deletes them with the clips i want to delete.  This is causing a major headache as it seems to be random, I can't replicate it on demand, but it happens eventually in ever compound clip I create.  I haven't noticed it while editing a project.

MacBook Pro :: Making Making Cracking Sounds While Opening

Sep 27, 2009

Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

Applications :: Won't Work With Movies In IPhoto / No Longer Movies

Dec 13, 2009

I had a bunch of movies that took with my digital camera that were always imported into iPhoto when I transferred my pictures into it. I used to just be able to click on them in iPhoto and the movie would open up and play. Now it seems that my movies are gone and all that I have of my movies is the first frame as a picture and nothing else. Their file extensions used to say .mov but now are .jpg. I've tried changing the extension back to .mov but no movie is there and the file sizes are not what a movie should be.
I'm running Snow Leopard on a 13" Macbook Pro with newest version of iPhoto. I have quicktime X and Quicktime 7 installed.

OS X :: Converting Certain .AVI Clips With Audio?

Feb 26, 2009

I'm not entirely sure which might be the correct forum for this question, not sure if i have the right spot but,..here goes..If someone can't be of help, please direct me to the correct forum.

I do a lot of media conversion from various formats using QT, VLC Player, Video Converter for Mac, Cleaner, Mpeg Streamclip, Sorenson Squeeze, Visual Hub, etc

Quite often i still run into (PC created) .avi clips that simply WILL NOT export/convert with SOUND, they will only PLAY with sound on the VLC Player but cannot seem to be converted into any kind of format WITH sound. I'm assuming this is some kind of codec issue but since i only know the clip as an .avi (and some AVI's convert fine including Divx and Xvid, others don't) and have no known way of analyzing the clip i don't know how to convert it.

Software :: Clips Don't Open In WMV Or QuickTime?

Sep 23, 2007

Sometimes, I get e-mails that contain clips that show a QuickTime icon and the letters WMV. They used to open automatically when clicked on. For the last few months, they don't. I get an error message:The movie could not be opened. It has a QuickTime icon on a yellow triangle and an exclamation point.

If I drop the clips on the Windows Media Player icon in the dock, they do open. Not so on the QuickTime icon.

Evidently, I have done something that causes the clips not to open automatically as before.
I've checked both WMP and QT preferences, but I do not see anything, as far as I know, that would have caused the change.

I've been having an issue with the latest iMovie and it's Trailers feature. When I've added the clips and play it through, after the majority of clips there's a slight pause before the transition to the next clip. It's noticeable and annoying.

I've tried with clips from various sources and resolutions but it doesn't seem yo make any difference.

If I switch clips around and keep playing and switching, it'll eventually play with no problems.

Has anyone else bad this problem.

OS X :: Resizing Video Clips Possible / IMovie HD

Jul 18, 2009

Recently I decided it'd be fun to put together a movie and while I've slowly been getting used to IMovie HD (first time using it 'properly'), I still haven't been able to "master" it yet. I was wondering whether it's possible to resize some of the clips I have? Some of the clips are different sizes and my intention is to publish the movie on something like YouTube or similar. I don't know if YouTube does this automatically? I don't remember it like that.

I don't want to have varying sizes of the clips when I send it to my friends, either, so. Can I resize the clips so they're all the same size? Can I do that in iMovie HD, or anything else on my Mac? Or do I have to download another piece of software to do this? Also, I'm not looking to spend any money on a professional editing program so please bear that in mind. The movies are in Quicktime MPEG-4 format if that's helpful.

OS X :: 6 Hours To Burn 2 750MB Clips To A DVD?

Jan 3, 2010

That is what iDVD is reporting... This could be a really horrible prediction or otherwise accurate?

To top it off... the CPU is around 80-83C and CPU usage is at 100% almost.

I don't understand why it would take this long to burn 2 simple .avi 750 MB clips to a DVD?

Is Toast any faster than this?

I'm also curious why my files appear to be 7GB on the disc when they are only 750 MB a piece? I had to change it from "Best Performance" to "Pro Quality" or something... which didn't make sense for Pro Quality to take only 4.1 gigs on the disc.

Can someone explain this to me or at least tell me if this is all normal?

OS X :: Importing Clips Into IMovie - Won't Work

Jan 24, 2010

I want to import some clips into iMovie (not from a camera, but a file) and it just won't work! The programme goes through all the steps, but in the end there is no file in iMovie; it just says 'No matching video'. I've checked the folder where clips should go (movie events --> eventx) and the clips have been moved to there, so why won't it show up in iMovie? It's driving me mad! Do the clips have to be a certain length (i remember that in iMovie 04 they had to be under 9minutes) or do they have to be a certain format? [I've been using .avi files.]

Software :: Broken Clips Upon Ingest?

Feb 8, 2009

I shoot weddings (among other things) for my business and I ingest about 10 to 14 tapes each wedding. 3 camera shoot. I have been having 7 or 8 second clip breaks upon ingest. So, a one hour, uninterrupted recording gets broken into several clips in Final Cut Pro. Let me stress (cause I'm pretty stressed :-) that this is not timecode breaks. It is a whole clip break. One long 60 minute recording gets broken up into several clips for no reason and the gap between them in FCP is about 7 seconds of missing footage.

My set up is 2 Canon XHA1's over firewire to 2008 8 core Mac, 14 gigs ram, four internal drives (about 3TB) I capture to 1.5 TB drive (internal) that is used only for capture. It happens on any of the drives. FCP 6 (all system and software updates are made).

The footage plays back just fine in the camera. The broken areas of the clips can recapture from the camera just fine, even in Capture Magic (which stops for nothing). So it is not damaged tape or dirty heads (just had them serviced). It seems like the system gets overloaded somehow (which it shouldn't) let's say it "farts" or something..... and drops 7 seconds upon capture and starts a new clip. The system is left alone during capture as well. I have lived with this problem for a long time and editing (multicam) takes FORVER as I have to constantly resync the media at every break. The breaks are random. Clips from a one hour recording can 2 minutes long or 10 minutes. What is really funny is that the ceremony has the least breaks.go figure that out?

Sorry to be long winded. Trying to be accurate because there are so many variables in this subject. Honestly I know this forum is filled with so many helpful people but I am at such a wits end (backed up with editing cause of this problem) I would happily send a PayPal payment to anyone who posts something that solves the problem.I don't want to insult the natural helpfulness of this forum. I just want to really honor the person that gets me out of this jail I am in.
