I have recently started learning to how to use FCE. I've got quite far with my first project and am at the point where I want to move some clips around the timeline. I do want to move clips inbetween other clips, rearranging their order, not deleting them. But whenever I drag a clip to fit splice in between two other clips, it just deletes whats underneath.
View 6 RepliesI have been editing compound clips and when I get half way through i notice early clips in the timeline are missing. So if there is clips ABCD in a connected clip, it will be now AC and the other clips are now gone. I've pressed undo until i saw when they were deleted and it seems when i'm selecting clips later in the timeline it selects earlier clips and deletes them with the clips i want to delete. This is causing a major headache as it seems to be random, I can't replicate it on demand, but it happens eventually in ever compound clip I create. I haven't noticed it while editing a project.

I am repeatedly running into the problem where as I'm trying to move clips in Logic by clicking and dragging to the right, I accidentally trigger Spaces which thinks I want to move something to the space to the right of the one I am currently in. (Is this making sense - am I explaining it ok?) So instead of moving my clips to the right I end up in another space. This is of course not what I want. I never use spaces since I always just hide apps I'm not using, and navigate back to them with Cmd+Tab. So I wouldn't mind disabling Spaces.

I find I want to attach a particular audio clip to a different video clip (given that without tracks it has to be attached to SOMETHING). Is there a way to move an audio clips affiliation to an alternate video clip? Especially without having to drag it out of place to do so?
Which leads to another question: is there any way to freeze an audio clip in place?

I've been having an issue with the latest iMovie and it's Trailers feature. When I've added the clips and play it through, after the majority of clips there's a slight pause before the transition to the next clip. It's noticeable and annoying.
I've tried with clips from various sources and resolutions but it doesn't seem yo make any difference.
If I switch clips around and keep playing and switching, it'll eventually play with no problems.
Has anyone else bad this problem.
How can I take 2 clips one with a women talking about her father and the other one is a shot with her and her father and I want to make one clip with the sound of the women talking and to see the women and her father. In imovie 09 it cab be done?

View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter you have downloaded say 10 movie clips from a video camera into I- Movie, is there a way to connect 2 or more of the clips and make it into one clip? When making movies every time you pause the video camera it creates a different clip. If you pause it 15 times at the same event you download 15 clips which in turn you have to create a button for each clip in I- DVD. I would like to combine some of them to somewhat fewer.

However, when I click "Show In Finder" on these clips that have no audio and play them in Quicktime, they have audio! So then I re-imported these videos into iMovie, and it worked! They had sound! Is this really what I'm going have to do every time I try to import my videos from my camera? Import, show in finder, RE-import?

All clip info like names, in/out markers, etc is still there. I have not had any problems in the past couple years with the program, and have not made any changes to it or my computer recently.

I do a lot of media conversion from various formats using QT, VLC Player, Video Converter for Mac, Cleaner, Mpeg Streamclip, Sorenson Squeeze, Visual Hub, etc
Quite often i still run into (PC created) .avi clips that simply WILL NOT export/convert with SOUND, they will only PLAY with sound on the VLC Player but cannot seem to be converted into any kind of format WITH sound. I'm assuming this is some kind of codec issue but since i only know the clip as an .avi (and some AVI's convert fine including Divx and Xvid, others don't) and have no known way of analyzing the clip i don't know how to convert it.
I did have a way to download clips from YT, but I forget how it worked.
I think it was an app, which added a download button on the webpage itself.
Can anyone remind me how it's done.
I hope I'm allowed to ask this - so mods please delete if not allowed.

In FCP 7 you could right click and choose 'Close Gap' or something very similar. What's the short cut for closing the gap between two clips, rather than manually dragging each one?

Sometimes, I get e-mails that contain clips that show a QuickTime icon and the letters WMV. They used to open automatically when clicked on. For the last few months, they don't. I get an error message:The movie could not be opened. It has a QuickTime icon on a yellow triangle and an exclamation point.
If I drop the clips on the Windows Media Player icon in the dock, they do open. Not so on the QuickTime icon.
Evidently, I have done something that causes the clips not to open automatically as before.
I've checked both WMP and QT preferences, but I do not see anything, as far as I know, that would have caused the change.
I was hoping someone here might know how/if I can use iMovie to create a presentation of various movie clips?
I don't know if it can be done with iMovie, but I've seen videos people have made by piecing together different scenes from movies, sometimes adding music... that sort of thing.
If iMovie can't do it, is there another program I can use? And if iMovie can, is it pretty simple to do a project like that?
I have iLife '06, I think. It's either '06 or '07. I also have Flash and Powerpoint. I don't know if those could work.
As you can tell, I'm a complete greenhorn when it comes to this.
