Software :: Google Reaffirms Intent To Derail HTML5 H.264 Video With Web Browser Plugins

Jan 15, 2011

After igniting a hailstorm of controversy over its intent to drop HTML5's H.264 support from its Chrome browser, Google has reaffirmed its intent to push its own open WebM video codec via Flash-like plugins for Internet Explorer and Safari users. The reason: Google wants to ship free platforms without incurring external licensing fees. Google's Mike Jazayeri detailed the company's new push behind WebM by writing in a detailed blog posting that the groups involved in developing the HTML5 video distribution standard "are at an impasse. There is no agreement on which video codec should be the baseline standard

Hardware :: Hulu Has No Plans To Support IPad Browser With HTML5?

May 13, 2010

Video streaming service Hulu posted and quickly retracted an item on its official blog Thursday, in which the company stated that it doesn't see HTML5 in its immediate future.Eugene Wei, vice president of product with Hulu, said that his company's contractual requirements make the transition to HTML5 too difficult. The current player on the website, built with Adobe Flash, does a great deal more than stream video."We continue to monitor developments on HTML5, but as of now it doesn?t yet meet all of our customers' needs," Wei wrote. "Our player doesn?t just simply stream video, it must also secure the content, handle reporting for our advertisers, render the video using a high performance codec to ensure premium visual quality, communicate back with the server to determine how long to buffer and what bitrate to stream, and dozens of other things that aren't necessarily visible to the end user."

Applications :: What Makes Google Chrome A Great Browser

Jan 7, 2010

Can anyone with experience using the Google browser vouch for what makes it so great? When I have tried it (on four different computers, different networks and locations) a lot of websites don't seem to work at all. I keep running into situations where some plugin seems to be required, but no plugin or fix exists. Why then are so many technology news sites writing such flattering reviews of this browser? Is it really fit to compete with Safari and Firefox?

Software :: Google Found Not Network, Not Server, Not Browser?

Nov 25, 2010

I have a problem accessing Google from Mac OS X 10.6.5 on my iMac9,1. I can access any other websites without a problem. I can access Google without a problem when I boot Win 7. I have tried restarting my ASDL modem/router. This was all working fine until a few days ago. I haven't made any networking-related changes in last few days. Here's what's happening. In Chrome 7.0.517.44 I can make an initial search from the search/address bar. All the content will appear but the page will never finish loading. A request for generate_204 from clients1.google.com.au never completes. Then I can cannot make any other Google requests without explicitly stopping the browser. Sometimes stopping the browser doesn't work and I have to quit it and start it again, then I can make another initial request, and the cycle repeats.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unable To Connect To Any Google Service With Any Browser?

Apr 17, 2012

Recently my Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.3 refuses to connect to any Google service. I have tried with Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Camino web browsers with the same result. "Unable to connect" etc. etc. Every other site that I normally go to works fine. I'm pretty sure I don't have the virus because I didn't install flashplayer pkg. I also ran the check to find out if I had accidently ran the pkg with negative results. That being said I also read some of the answers to similar problems and ran a few checks on my own. I opened my network configuration and renewed my DHCP lease, restarted my cable moden and my router. I have also ran a ping on [URL] which came back normal but when I tried a lookup service to [URL] I got the folllowing: Lookup has started Trying [URL] Truncated, retrying in TCP mode.Trying [URL] Received 28 bytes from 192.168.1.1#53 in 3 msTrying [URL]Host not found: 5(REFUSED)Received 28 bytes from 192.168.1.1#53 in 4 ms It sounds like I have a permissions problem but I'm not sure which playlists to fix in my library. Maybe it's something else entirely.

PowerPC :: IBook Web In Browser Video?

Aug 2, 2007

I have a hand-me-down G3 iBook 14" running Tiger. It works pretty well, of course, it's not as nice as the newer stuff.

Anyway, whenever I watch a in-browser video from CNN (since their site was redesigned), it plays very stuttery, even on a LAN connection. I noticed that their videos use Shockwave, which I updated, but it's bad. I don't have any other problems with You Tube or other videos.

I know this thing isn't a powerhouse, but a 800mhz machine with 640meg of RAM should be able to watch a video in a browser, right? It runs DVD's full screen with no issues.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Choppy Web Video In Any Browser

Jun 23, 2012

All of a sudden I am getting choppy video playback on web content from any site using any browser.  I have searched and searched every online forum I can find.  The problem most say is old machines that are not Intel proccessors.  Another problem described is RAM.  And another is the Flash player plug-in.  I have a  2008/9 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1gHz MacBook, with 4Gb RAM!  And over 20Gb of space left on my 320Gb hard drive.  I do not see why there would be any hardware problems here.  I have also uninstalled the Flash plug-in, properly and completely.  I have reinstalled it too and according to the Adobe website it is running properly.  I also use MacKeeper and everything according to that is running efficiently.  The last time I completely reformatted my HDD was less than a year ago.  My battery is old, but it still manages to last for about 3 hours, so I'm guessing that's not packed up just yet either. why my web video is still choppy?  The sound for a video plays out just fine, but the video freezes and then starts up again a few seconds later.  Some browser it's better on one day and worse the next.  The same is true for different websites.  But it is almost never smooth.

Software :: Browser Crashes When Loading Streaming Video

Apr 19, 2008

I have a macbook pro running 10.4 on it, and ever since I've restarted my computer yesterday (it was starting to slow down a bit, but its better now), every time I try to load any kind of streaming video on any browser, it crashes. Not hang, but your average annoying run-of-the-mill "crash reporter" crash. I've cleaned up all my caches, private data, etc., same for the system, I've checked for viruses, I've reinstalled the browsers, and the flash player and a few other things I can't remember right now. One thing that has occurred to me is that this has occurred no matter what browser or company that created the browser software (like mozilla). Could there be a plugin thats interfering with the software?

Software :: Google Announces Free Web Video Codec As H.264 Alternative?

May 19, 2010

At its annual I/O conference, Google has unveiled its plan to release a video codec it acquired as a royalty free alternative to the ISO MPEG's H.264. Google was joined by Mozilla and Opera as browser vendors that would be including support for the new codec, dubbed WebM. Mozilla's Firefox currently does not support H.264 because doing so would require purchasing a license from the ISO.WebM is, as the name suggests, targeted at the web and not intended to replace H.264 across the board. As such, the project can be focused on a narrower set of engineering goals. WebM also supports HTML5 delivery of web video, as unlike H.264, it can be used to deliver web-based videos to any modern web browser, not just the commercial products of large companies like Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Software :: Google Drops Support For H.264 Video In Chrome To Push Web

Jan 11, 2011

Google has announced the intention to remove support for H.264 video playback from its Crome browser to "enable open innovation," yet still apparently plans to promote Adobe Flash. According to Google's product manager of Chrome Mike Jazayeri, the company will be "focusing our investments in those technologies that are developed and licensed based on open web principles," at least when it comes to WebM VP8 and Theora video codecs Google released after acquiring On2 last year. That effort excludes support for the ISO's MPEG 4 H.264 codec, which is commercially licensed by its pool of patent holders. Google is apparently not exercising the same principles when it comes to supporting Adobe Flash, which unlike H.264, is completely proprietary to one company rather than being administered by a standards body.

I currently have a Flash website, but keen to start thinking ahead. I predominantly built it in Flash because I understood the authoring tool, and found HTML/Dreamweaver too confusing and technical. My background is video/effects, so the Flash timeline came naturally.

My question is - what if any authoring tools are available or coming for HTML5? Seems like a good opportunity for Apple to come up with a great visual, professional but easy to use application to promote their vision of the web's future....?
