Computer would only start after sleep mode if I unplugged the power cord. The power button would not do anything, even if I held it for a long time.
Shut down and start up would work normally. Only effected sleep mode.
After much trouble shooting I found that I had a bad USB hub. Everything on the bad USB hub would work fine so I didn't suspect it.

My Mac would not turn on this morning from sleep mode. I pressed the power button and nothing. Then I did it again and heard the fan shut off inside so I tried again and up it came. Also I cannot wake my Mac up unless I press the power button. I used to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse and it would wake up, but now that doens't work. I don't know if this could be a reason, but my mother has a horrible habit of unplugging it when it storms. It's always asleep and I've told her not to do that and to make sure it's turned off before ripping the cord from the wall. But she continues to do it when it storms.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Then, when I wake it up, I must go to System preferences, Network and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network. It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own. My iPad 2 and kindle can do this, why not my iMac?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I close then open the lid on my MacBook, it will not wake up from sleep mode. I have to reboot by holding down the power button for 10 sec. When it restarts, it takes a long time to get past the gray screen with the apple logo. I also have this same problem when it goes into sleep mode, when left idle. I have since changed the settings so it will not go into sleep mode when idle in system preferences. I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem still persists.

I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. View 1 Replies View RelatedI can be in the middle of using an application, browsing a web-page, or basically any type of function when it will put itself into sleep mode. When this happens, I cannot get it to "wake up". I have to disconnect it from the power source, turn it over and remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then hit the power button, put the battery back in, then restart it. This is the only way I have found that will get it to come back to life. I don't like doing it, but I really don't see what other options I have.

I'm using 2 IMac 27' and one is simply used as an external display. When I wake up the computer from sleep, it works on the main monitor, however the external display still has a black screen. I have to unplug the external monitor to get it to wake up. I tried unplugging thunderbolt and replugging it in which worked the first time, but same issue again not waking up.

Ever since I bought and downloaded OS Lion, whenever I put my mac to sleep or it goes to sleep on its own it occasionally won't wake up from sleep. It has to be manually rebooted. Is anyone familiar with this problem. Apple must know about it by now. I'm not lugging my 27" iMac into the apple store to have them look at it unless it won't reboot. Hoping it doesn't come to that...anyone familiar with this or have ideas on how to fix it? I don't know if it's a 3rd party software issue or just the OS.

My screen on my 2 week old iMac comes up pixelated leaving square trails mimicking the movement of the mouse. I have had consultations twice with Apple support junior team members, looking forward to a senior team member reviewing my case. It looks like some sort of eraser wiping the blank dark screen revealing the login screen underneath.
Oh by the way my first iMac was sent back due to dead pixels, how unusual is that?

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video..or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom. sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
I just purchased a set of Mushkin Apple 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM 9-9-9-24 (976647A) RAM for my mid 2011 27" iMac and everything ran great for a few days. I was able to sleep and wake the machine with no problems. Last night I was doing some graphic intensive work on my machine and when I had finished, the fans were still running high but I was going to bed so I put the machine to sleep. Normally the fans would stop at this point but they kept running. I assumed the machine was still hot so it was just cooling after sleeping. The next morning the machine would not wake. I had to do a hard reset to get it to boot up again I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it still doesn't wake from sleep. Am I have issues with my RAM?

I'm using an iMac (late 2011) with 10.7.3. I'm doing things on the computer or some process is going on when the screen instantly goes black (no dimming first). If a video was playing, I can still hear it playing, but pushing keys on the keyboard or mouse or pad does nothing to wake the screen. Sometimes pushing the power button a number of times will get the screen to come on, sometimes it won't. When the screen goes black, if an external drive was running and then stops, I can sometimes get the screen to come to live. Sometimes this black screen happens when I'm burning a DVD; when the DVD is finished, I can bring the screen to life. I thought one of my two external drives was bad, so I disconnected it. That seemed to help (though verifying the disk revealed no problems). But a few minutes ago, the screen instantly went black again; no dimming first. There have been times I thought this was associated with a new bit of software, but then it returns even after I delete the suspect software. Sometimes I have to use the power button to shut down the iMac then restart it. Once, I had to unplug and replug the iMac before I could get the computer to respond and the screen to return to life. I don't know if this is a hardware problem (internal or external), a software problem, or some combination...or something I haven't thought of, at all.
