Hardware :: IMac 24 Intel Will Not Wake Up From Sleep Mode?
Jan 30, 2008
My iMac is about 4 months old and about twice a month after sleeping overnight the computer will not wake up. After several attempts pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking on the mouse, I have to unplug the Mac and then press the start button on the back
My Mac would not turn on this morning from sleep mode. I pressed the power button and nothing. Then I did it again and heard the fan shut off inside so I tried again and up it came. Also I cannot wake my Mac up unless I press the power button. I used to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse and it would wake up, but now that doens't work. I don't know if this could be a reason, but my mother has a horrible habit of unplugging it when it storms. It's always asleep and I've told her not to do that and to make sure it's turned off before ripping the cord from the wall. But she continues to do it when it storms.
For some unknown reason I will put my mac to sleep and at sometimes it will wake up without any command to wake up - why this happens and how to correct it?
My iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Then, when I wake it up, I must go to System preferences, Network and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network. It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own. My iPad 2 and kindle can do this, why not my iMac?
Ever since I bought and downloaded OS Lion, whenever I put my mac to sleep or it goes to sleep on its own it occasionally won't wake up from sleep. It has to be manually rebooted. Is anyone familiar with this problem. Apple must know about it by now. I'm not lugging my 27" iMac into the apple store to have them look at it unless it won't reboot. Hoping it doesn't come to that...anyone familiar with this or have ideas on how to fix it? I don't know if it's a 3rd party software issue or just the OS.
I have never had a Mac Pro before, but I have owed 2 Imac's and a power mac and 2 MacBooks. The issue I am having is when I put the machine to sleep when I wake it back up it is like it does a restart. It does not start me back up where I was before.
If I put my MBP to sleep (by closing the display) and then decide to use it right away (in a minute or less), are there any risks to the hard drive involved or any sort of issue?
When I close then open the lid on my MacBook, it will not wake up from sleep mode. I have to reboot by holding down the power button for 10 sec. When it restarts, it takes a long time to get past the gray screen with the apple logo. I also have this same problem when it goes into sleep mode, when left idle. I have since changed the settings so it will not go into sleep mode when idle in system preferences. I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem still persists.
Info: Macbook (13-inch early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. So far it is sleeping and waking perfectly for the first time in ages. No more freezes or jet engine fans. I have my fingers crossed. Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz, purchased June, 2003
My G4 powerbook (running Tiger) seems to be stuck in sleep mode. I turned it on and the screen remained black but the sleep button is flashing on the front.
My iMac is some 2 years old and have never had this problem before but twice in the last week it has failed to awake from sleep mode and I have had to hold the start button to 'wake' it up. It then goes through the usual procedure that transpires afte 'logging off'
Info: AppleTV 2, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I have an o2 router
My iMac will not come out of sleep mode and if it does it takes a really long time to do so. I've looked at several things in other forums and it seems to be a Maverick issue. However it only started about a month ago and most people have had this issue since the release of Maverick. I also read to use the bluetooth keyboard and mouse instead of a USB one. That also did not fix the problem. So I am at a standstill ...
I can be in the middle of using an application, browsing a web-page, or basically any type of function when it will put itself into sleep mode. When this happens, I cannot get it to "wake up". I have to disconnect it from the power source, turn it over and remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then hit the power button, put the battery back in, then restart it. This is the only way I have found that will get it to come back to life. I don't like doing it, but I really don't see what other options I have.
When my iMac 27" is in sleep mode I have noticed that the hard drive spins up very regularly every 4 or 5 minutes. Also when placed in sleep, the monitor takes about 30 seconds to go black. It also wakes on its own for no apparent reason. No new software has been added, only normal updates, running Lion. Time machine backup is done every couple weeks.
2010 iMac running 10.9.4. Lately certain programs are forced to close on a regular basis. This includes Safari, Mail, Crashplan. It usually happens when the computer is sleeping. When I wake up the computer first thing in the morning, I usually have 3 - 4 messages saying that certain programs were forced to restart. This can also sometimes occur when the computer is not sleeping, but when I am using it. Typically it's Safari that is forced to restart. Â
Recently upgraded RAM and added Crashplan software for data backup. Â
Recently, tried leaving my iMac in sleep mode for hours but it keeps crashing with those Crash Reports popping up when I click to wake it. They mention Kernel Panics.(Also, been getting Kernel Panics randomly popping up when I start up at the desktop. This is a 2010 iMac which I purchased refurbished not quite a year ago Already emailed seller with issues, think I might just return it as seems like hard drive is going. , as to troubleshooting before I go this route?
Having some trouble with my iMac (the version right before the intel iMacs came out. further info can be provided if needed). Running all the latest software updates etc. When I put the iMac to sleep, it goes off as normal. With the usual white light. However, when coming to wake the iMac it won't respond to the keyboard or mouse. I have to shut it down at the power button, and then turn it back on.
Does anyone know if it's possible yet to wake an iMac from sleep via the internet? I'd like to use remote login via SSH to an iMac from an ibook, but it is quite useless unless I can wake the iMac from the internet.
I have an older iMac (MA589LL) that I recently upgraded to 4GB and Snow Leopard which is running beautifully. I do have an issue with it though, and it's been occurring for a while: Whenever the machine goes to sleep and I wake it up, the monitor turns on just fine but after about 5 seconds it goes back to sleep. I have to repeat this about 3 times and then it is fine. It's an annoying issue but not a deal breaker as I can just turn it off. I searched for sleep issues/turn off issues and have not found anything.
NOTE: Issue occurred before the upgrades. I've also tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM. I have also used different keyboards/mouses.
When my computer goes to sleep it will not wake up, and I have to shut down using the power button on the back and then restart. I called support and they advised me that this only happened when the computer went to sleep on it's opwn but not when you manually put it to sleep, But that proved not to be true. It will not wake up under either situation? The support persontold me to logonto applke and re-install the sytem software which I have done but that did not cure the problem either. I have my preference set to never sleep. I am ar]t a loss as to what to do now as when it goes to sleep or I put it to sleep i sometimes will not start up even after shutting down and restarting.I am on 10.7.2?
My iMac won't start up, or wake from sleep. I've tried everything, except for reinstalling the SO-DIMM memory modules. Still, my iMac will not wake up. Turning it on, you can hear the fan run, but the display stays dark.Â
For the past few months i've been having issues with my imac 2.66Ghz 24 inch. I'd say almost half the time when i put my imac to sleep it doesnt wake up no matter how many keys i press and it just stays stuck on a black screen. I know that when you put the computer to sleep you hear absolutely no noise however in this case i hear a slight fan noise despite it 'sleeping'. When this happens i always have to use the on/off button to do a reset. What seems to be the issue here??
Every now and then, my 2010 27" iMac won't wake up from sleep by pressing a button on the keyboard or the Magic Trackpad. The computer won't even respond to a tap of the power button so I end up having to hold it down for a hard reset.
It seems like this only happens when the Mac sleeps with an application running (usually EyeTV 3). Is it an issue where the bluetooth keyboard and trackpad aren't communicating with the Mac properly?
