I changed the account preferences (in the System Preferences) so that the username is pointed to Data/users/username
The Finder icon in the dock still opens to to Programs/users/username, even after rebooting. All other apps appear to be using Data/users/username for saving files and other stuff.
How do I change the Finder on the Dock to open to Data/users/username?
OS X :: Finder Keeps Changing View Options?
May 3, 2010When I'm looking at files and folders in Finder, I want it to be in List view. When I open a folder that contains photos, I want it to show them as tiles. However, when I set a folder to show as tiles, it changes *all* folder options, meaning my normal files and folders start showing as tiles too, when they should be showing as a list. How do I fix this so that it shows the right view depending on the contents of the folder? This is proving to be a major headache coming from Windows 7.
In addition, the Finder window keeps on defaulting to a size that isn't wide enough to view all columns. I keep on having to press the + button to make it shows all the columns of information. How do I fix this so that it shows all of the information straight away?
I have to admit, these are some really major usability hurdles I've come across, and after a week of peaceful usage, I have that feeling of buyers remorse again right now because of this!

May 1, 2009Is there a way to change the date format in the column to display the date number. currently i can get the date to only show ex. friday, 11:42 or yesterday 11:42. i would like to see friday 4, 11:42 instead.

Apr 14, 2012I downloaded a picture of the black Apple Linen texture online.I wanted to change the background of the finder. The picture is 1920x1080 so I figured the size would be fine I have the 21.5" iMac.But when I change to the picture it doesn't fill the page, but fills the top left of the page. The area of the picture doesn't change when I change the size of my Finder.I also downloaded a picture of size 128x128 The picture didn't stretch, it just took the size in the top left of my finder screen.

Apr 30, 2012How do you change the icons in the Finder's sidebar? For no apparent reason, Apple took away the ability to add custom folders or color to the sidebar, but I'm hoping for a workaround.

Aug 6, 2009I've created a new user account in Mac OS 10.5.7 and I have changed the International settings of this user, in particular, I set the language to Portuguese. Now, when this user logins in, Finder does not start properly. It quits and immediately tries to restart again. The result is that the Finder menu blinks on the screen. I can run other applications normally, Safari, Terminal, etc. The problem is, AFAIK, only with Finder.

May 26, 2012I have one user account with small (say 9pt) Sidebar items in the custom list of Folders/Places. That user was migrated from Leopard but I do not recall if it came over like that or I set it up. In another user on same MBP the Sidebar items are significantly larger (say 13pt) and I would like to change them to be about 9pt like my other user account.

OS X :: Changing Default File Icons - Dock Not Recognize Finder Image
Jul 25, 2009On my Macbook, running Leopard, I recently changed all my icons. (applications, folders, default files, etc.) I changed the Finder and Trash icons via System/Library/CoreServices. But the Dock won't recognize that the Finder icon has changed-- it's still showing me the old icon. That's Problem 1.
Then I created a new user account, and discovered that on that account the Dock shows the correct Finder image. But Problem 2: the new account doesn't recognize my default file icons. It flashes them for a second when I save the file, and then reverts back to the regular white default image. (Even though all the .icns files are correct in the application's Resources folder.) I really don't want to download Candybar or anything, since I know it can be done without that.

Sep 4, 2014I can resize columns in list view and drag them to the order that I want, but that only lasts until I close the window. If I open that folder again in (list view is the default), the column widths and arrangement return to their original configuration. How to make changes in individual folder windows and make them permanent?

OS X :: Changing Multiple File Names At Once In "Finder"?
Jun 17, 2007I am new to Mac and having difficulty changing names in Finder.
I know that I can select the file and go to "Get Info" and change the name under "Name and Extention". However with hundreds of photos, how can I change the name of multiple photos at once and just assign a different number after the identical name?
I ask because when I take digital photos, the camera assigns the same name to them: i.e., dsc_00007.jpg. When I try to download my pictures to a memory card for use in a digital frame, it will not download many of them because they have the same name and wants to replace it.

Apr 27, 2009I have all my movies and tv show on a portable 500GB external hard drive. When i watch an episode of a tv show or a movie i label it with a color so that i know that i have seen it. There are some files where when i right click a file and and go down to where the 7 colors are they are all grayed out. I am not sure if this is a bug or if certain files cant be labeled.

Jun 14, 2009I set up my Macbook to share to my lowly PC, that was fine, but now I get a bar that says Shared Folder when I access the hard drive in my macbook from my macbook. Its incredibly irritating. I tried to 'fix' it but all I did was disallow permissions to my HD and was unable to access anything, had to re-install OSX to get it to work.

Does anybody know how to print address labels from a group in the address book.
I know you can create templates pages for avery labels ect but it will only allow you to print the name rather than select a "nick name"
Any new ideas? I have started to dabble in the apple scripting side of this issues so I am open to suggestions... really anything saves having to write out 3000 addresses.

When I tried to label the folders by colour, however, I realised that that option is greyed out! New folders that I create can be colour labelled, but not the imported ones. How do i colour label these imported folders?

Aug 4, 2010I was messing around with my desktop drive icons and noticed you can't give your 'Macintosh HD' partition a colored label, when I right clicked my bootcamp partition, the colored label options were available, so I gave it a color. But when I remove it, whenever the partition get's unmounted (at shutdown or manually trough disk utility), OS X throws a kernel panic. So now I have a permanent label attached to my bootcamp drive.

I guess they are no longer in business because I am unable to contact them. (ex. my name for return labels) I also want to be able to merge with AddressBook for Christmas lists etc. Any recommendations as to a good software program. IMac :: UPC Label Doesn't Match Actual?
Apr 3, 2009I was just looking at my iMac UPC label (which I need for printer rebate).
Anyways, my iMac config is:
24" / 2.66 GHz / 4 GB / 640 GB HD
and my UPC label reads:
20" / 2.66 GHz / 2 GB / 320 GB HD
Now, I called Apple, and he said it shouldn't matter, but I need the order receipt and UPC label to match, what now?

Feb 6, 2010I had a Netgear before switching over to my Airport Extreme. One of the features I liked is that it let me label each address that was connected to it, instead of having to memorize each IP address or MAC address. Is there a way to do this?
Also, is there a way to block out certain MAC addresses from connecting to the internet. I only found an option to block them at certain times of the day.
