View 4 RepliesI downloaded a picture of the black Apple Linen texture online.I wanted to change the background of the finder. The picture is 1920x1080 so I figured the size would be fine I have the 21.5" iMac.But when I change to the picture it doesn't fill the page, but fills the top left of the page. The area of the picture doesn't change when I change the size of my Finder.I also downloaded a picture of size 128x128 The picture didn't stretch, it just took the size in the top left of my finder screen.

when I switch users on my mid 2007 iMac (with Mavericks 10.9.3), the background pictures resizes and the dock doesnt load. I've noted also that switching applications via command+tab doesn't show the icons of the applications, and when accessing "Notifications", it doesnt draw correctly on the screen (the area of the notifications center appears on the right of the screen, but an extension of the notifications is also drawn under hte desktops icons).

I can resize columns in list view and drag them to the order that I want, but that only lasts until I close the window. If I open that folder again in (list view is the default), the column widths and arrangement return to their original configuration. How to make changes in individual folder windows and make them permanent?

View 4 Replies View Related(Running 10.4.6 on an eMac btw) As I type this in a Firefox window, I am unable to type ANYTHING in Finder. I created a new folder and tried to rename it - nothing's happening. Typing won't work in Finder Search, or Folder Info either. Nor folders i create on the Desktop. I tried closing Finder and re-opening. No luck. I can type in every other program.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell ok, lets not get off-topic, I was replacing some files on my mac, when the program which replaces or copies or what ever stopped responding when i was replacing some files. The finder was selected and im used to click cancel and i force quitted finder accedently. Everything went wrong and i can't see my desktop, the finder doesn't work and my mouse lags... I can't relaunch finder i have tried really much.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.9.4 on a Macbook Pro 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i7 with 8GB RAM. Finder has stopped drawing windows correctly. If I am in Finder and chose New Window in the Archive Meny, a new Window opens, but I don't see anything. Well, I can see something, I see the outlines of the window, the icons at the top and stuff in at the left of the window like favorites, drives, shared network drives, but the I don't see the actual files in the newly opened window.
The windows opens, but I only see what's behind the Finder window. For instance, If I open a new Finder window (like Documents) on top of Safari where I write this post, I'll not see documents but this text I'm writing. I've tried restarting the computer to no avail. I have tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM without success. Thinking if there perhaps is a plist file for this, but I don't know.

I wanted to put the "Epson Printer Utility 4" application in my dock bar. So in Finder, I selected File > Find, and set it to "Name" "begins with" "Epson Printer".
Mavericks found the "Epson Printer Finder" application in [Root] / Applications / Epson Software, but it did not find "Epson Printer Utility 4" in [Root] / Library / Printers / EPSON / InkjetPrinter2 / Utility / UT4. As a test, I also tried File > Find for the "World Clock" widget in [Root] / Library / Widgets - also not found.
Both files are fully visible to me, and I have have Admin privileges. I set my Finder preferences to "Search This Mac" when performing a search. I can't find any other preference to have Mavericks really, truly search ALL of This Mac, including the root directory folders.

Today Dashboard is not working. I click on the Dashboard icon in the Dock. The application does not respond. I click and hold the Dashboard icon in the Dock and get the balloon. I click on "Show Dashboard." Dashboard does not activate. I go into the Application folder on my hard drive and double-click the Dashboard icon. Still no action.
This problem started this morning, after I turned on the computer for the day. I have never had any trouble with Dashboard before.

I opened up AdiumX today and found that the connection to AIM through my @mac.com email account has a login issue. Now, when I opened Messages it stated that if you want to continue using .mac or .me address for AIM then you need to upgrade to 10.7.3.Now I am on Maverick, so I guess that is fine, but I still get the error through Adium.

I had some spotlight issues and the index was successfully rebuilt. Mail however, still has a disabled search functionality. If I enter a term in the upper right search field no results appear. Rebooting and restoring Mail don't work. Mail is not excluded in the system prefs spotlight settings.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect to a small (10) local network of imacs all running Mavericks 10.9.3. I'm using Remote Desktop over Bonjour and also trying to share an iTunes library using Home sharing. None of the computers will respond. I get an error (-3170) on the target computers for the home sharing and RD tells me they're all sleeping when I can see perfectly well that they are awake and logged in. They all have RD client 3.7.1 installed but the response I get from RD when I try to wake them is 'this is not supported on these computers'.
This system worked wonderfully well under 10.6.8 and now it's completely screwed with Mavericks. as all the computers respond readily via the 'Go/connect to server/browse/connect method'. They are obviously all connected it's just this new OS just doesn't work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a bluetooth remote presenter. It has the usual keys (next, previous, volume, play/pause, start default music player) and it also has a small touchpad / trackpad with left and right buttons, scrolling buttons.
The remote is great and it served me well under Windows and OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Now since I bought a new machine with Maverics, I can't pair it. The bluetooth utility looks different on Mavericks. Certain things missing, such as making Bluetooth discoverable or not in the way of simplification of things or oversimplification of things, where there seems to be no access to Bluetooth device details and no way to add device without pairing code.
The remote is recognized as mouse with keyboard, which makes things worse, there is not only no code on the device, even if there is one (or if it would except 0000, 0000000, or similar), I have no way to enter it.
Unfortunately Maverics made things simple but useless for some bluetooth devices. It's unnecessary.
Seems like I will be stuck with Snow Leopard on one of my machines forever.
When I look in console on SL, here is what I see:
2014-06-28 8:23:11.268 AM System Preferences[7658]: [establishKernelConnection] Received an error from IOServiceOpen() - 0x10000003. NULLing out io_service_t.
There is an entry like this every time I try to pair.
The Bluetooth manager window says -- "Pairing failed"
When I go to Options, it shows the field to enter code. No matter what I enter there or if I leave empty, I won't be able to pair.
Otherwise BT works fine on Maverics, I have Apple keyboard, Logitech kayboard, Apple and Logitech trackpad and audio device connected, no issue.
The Remote presenter works also fine and I tried to re-pair it with other non-Mavericks machines and works fine too.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.3
I enable security preference pane requirepasword on waking from sleep.
I select sleep or close lid on my MBP but nothin happens.
How can I enable?

When I set my background to change everyday, it changes every time I restart instead. Do Macs consider that a day change or something? When else does it change, every time it's midnight?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the background on some Aliases and folders I created on my desktop. I downloaded some icons in .ico and .png format online, and I am able to use the .png format. I open up the .png file, ctrl-c it, then goto the Alias or Folder I want to change the icon on. I do a "Get Info", then I click on the icon at the top and do a ctrl-v. This changes the icon, but it puts a White background behind the icon. See the screenshot below to see what I am talking about. Screenshot of resulting icon on desktop. Site where I downloaded the icons:

Anyways, so when you go to change your background. You have all these options to choose from folder wise. Well I remember clearly, very very clearly back in Tiger that you could create a folder, or just an existing folder within say "Photos" and you could click it and it would access that folder and all its pictures. Mainly for changing the pictures every 5/10/30/day w/e I like my background to change often. Many pictures.
Well I have had leopard for a while. I forgot when I installed it. But I have noticed ever since then that when I try and change my background. It only lets me use photos that are inside the original Photo folder. There are no folders present inside the photo folder in the Background change area. Only pictures are present. This is a huge issue due to how I like to have things organized.
I'm running OSX 10.5.8, installed adobe 9. Now while surfing using Safari some pages load automatically into adobe pdf, but background is totally black, with yellow text. Very annoying. Why can't I just use Apple's Preview as my pdf utility? When I save pdf files they now save into adobe 9 format, can I convert those to Apple's Preview format?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI manage a small deployment of different macintosh products and I currently have to run 5 different images so that the background images look right on all the various resolutions. I have been working on a piece of applescript to prompt the user on first startup to select their hardware type to apply the proper background image but I am running into a few issues. Firstly the method I am using limits me to three options and I cant seem to find any documentation on how the list function works..Second, I keep getting errors saying the files can't be found. View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac.
I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.
