Software :: Cannot Copy Files From CD Or DVD To Desktop
Jan 11, 2009
This morning I updated my G5 mac with one of the updates called the Migration and DVD/CD sharing update from the mac website. Now I cant seem to transfer files from either a cd or dvd. I can open the files from the disc but cant copy files to the desktop.
While traveling I download large volumes of photos and videos from three cameras to my Mac Air (2010 model). Now I need to transfer them to my Mac Desktop (also 2010) to Aperture. Is it possible to do this via a cable?
Inadvertantly dragged a CD full of images ontothe desktop of a G3 powerbook.
Desktop now has 1000's of jpgs on it, on loading this is slowing the system to a crawl and making the machine unusable (spinning colored disk all the time)
So how can I move these files from the desktop without having the machine boot up normally ?
On a PC I could boot to command mode and manually remove the desktop entries, is the same possible with Mac?
How do I copy images from a photo memory card to my Mac Book Pro (Os x) ? I tried earlier and apparently removed the images from the memory card. I don't want to remove them from the card, only copy to my MacBook.
I think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().
I have received a link via email, and i would like to copy and paste it to my desktop. I have a PC and have done this on that, but can't figure how to do that on my Mac.
I'm sure it's a very simple process, but I just can't get it.
I want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.
I'm getting my Mac in a week and I would like to know it I can drag files from my Leopard desktop to my Parallels desktop. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
everything is going well, and it seems to be working fine (there are a few things that aren't perfect... but I'm sure they'll get ironed out in the future)Anyway, what I want to do is burn a copy of the Installation DVD, just to be sure nothing happens to my only copy (I had a bad experience with leaving my Leopard DVD on a bus once... I was so angry with myself!)Now, I used disk utility, and now have a perfect .cdr copy of Snow Leopard sitting on my desktop.I have Toast Titanium on my MBP, and am just wondering which is the best option to make a bootable copy.
There is a new bug that has cropped up in the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard version of Apple Mail, version 4.2. This bug was not present in Leopard's version of Apple Mail. If you drag a single email from Apple Mail out to your desktop, it makes a copy of the email message on your desktop. BUT -- if you drag multiple emails from Apple Mail out to your desktop, Mail does absolutely nothing. This used to be a very quick way to archive and/or export email messages out of Apple Mail, and it worked perfectly fine in Mac OS X 10.5. But you can no longer do this in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Just migrated from older iMac to brand new, though both were updated first. Now I can't see or copy files to desktop, can't drag copy folders to visible external HD on desktop, and can't access my Contact information? I have been using Macs since 1990.
I have two Virtual Machines running on my MacbookPro. One is Windows and the other is Ubuntu. The Windows 7 system is running perfectly well but the Ubuntu VM has got issues with dragging/dropping files from Mac to Ubuntu and vice versa. When I checked on the Parallel Desktop's forum, the only solution provided was that the Parallel Desktop's tool should be uninstalled and reinstalled; which I have done. But that didn't solve the problem. The Configuration menu "Virtual Machine" offered checkboxes for the (Copy & Paste) section, and I can confirm that both boxes for 'Share Mac Cipboard' and 'Preserve Text Formatting' are checked. That should have solved the copy/paste problem but didn't.
One of several calendars was accidentally deleted from the desktop. It is still present on the iPad and backed up to the desktop. Additionally, the iPad version can no longer be edited, copied or moved.
Info: iMac (24-inch Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I'm attempting to recover from the popular iCloud mistake "Deleting the wrong calendar". I am able to locate the Folder located in the Library of my Time Machine backup, and when I attempt to "Restore to" "Desktop" I receive the following error:
This particular file name is actually located in one of the folders, in the Calendar Folders, and is just one of the many events I would like to restore to my calendar, and the copy operation aborts when I click OK. Each time I retry this a different .ics file is the issue.
Investigating file permissions reveals nothing pertinent that I can see, because I am not attempting to cross any boundaries e.g. I'm in the user account and searching in the same user account, I wish to import Calendar Folder to.
My time machine backups to an external drive stopped with a message that the backup could not be done because the drive could not be repaired and needed to be reformatted. Prior to reformatting I copied the TM backup file of 250GB to my desktop. My internal drive is 500GB and this only leaves me with 33GB of available space. I then reformatted the drive with the proper OS extended journaled and GUID partition. The external drive is 500GB. When I try to copy the backup file from the desktop to the reformatted drive the process begins normally with the message "preparing to copy files" but as the preparation process reaches 13,000,000 files it stops with the message "there is not enough sufficient space to copy files" even though it never even got to the actual file transfer. I have tried copying the backups in small batches to the new drive but I get an error message that backup files cannot be modified.
Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.
I put in a DVD and I do not see an icon for the DVD. I was thinking that copying my photos, or a folder full of photos to a DVD with my Apple computers should be as easy as dragging and dropping them onto the DVD disc icon.
I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
I was wondering if there's a way to move files instead of copy them via dragging with the mouse, or even a keyboard shortcut? I mostly run into this problem when I'm trying to move stuff to and from the Firewire External Drive I have connected to my Mac. It's kind of frustrating since I have to delete all the original ones, since I simply don't need them anymore.
I want to copy certain files (to an external hard drive, but that doesn't matter) to another folder. But i want it to do it automatically with one click (or two, but you get the point). I want it to only copy files that are also in the destination folder from the source folder to the destination folder. (sorry that doesn't make much sense). But my goal is to back up my music into a folder, but not all of, only the folders that are already there. So basically, replacing old with new, but adding no new folders at all.
I recently bought a new macbook 13" (first time ever using mac so i dont know much yet) and have been trying to copy some of my files from my pc to my macbook using my USB flash drive, however everytime i try to copy a file from the usb to my macbook i got the message: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not sufficient privileges for some of the items."
After clicking ok to this message the copying status bar doesnt move and the estimated time remaining displays nothing even after waiting for ~1hour.
I tried going to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility to repair disk permissions but the option is greyed out on my flash drive.
I have also tried reinstalling osx but this seemed to just be a big waste of time.
I recently got an Imac with lepord on it, and my last mac had tiger. I tried coping and pasting, and when I right click on the highlighted area, and the highlight just goes away.
I can not copy my files from my Download folder in my mac to my usb external hard drive, I get this error message: (This item could not be moved because "External Disk" could not be modified)
Is there a way to transfer all settings and applications from my iMac to my Mini? It took some three working days to setup my iMac. What I want is obviously to have the exact setup on both my iMac and my Mini without having to configure both computers separately. I guess Migration Assistant isn't really meant for this task, or is it? Would a disk image of the iMac's system partition do the trick, despite different hardware setups? Both computers are running Snow Leopard.
i want to be able while in windows 7 to copy files over to a mac hdd .. when i try i get the message that i dont have permission? anyone know how to fix this ?
