OS X V10.7 Lion :: Restoring Backed Up ICal Folder To Desktop - Copy Permission Error

Mar 24, 2012

I'm attempting to recover from the popular iCloud mistake "Deleting the wrong calendar". I am able to locate the Folder located in the Library of my Time Machine backup, and when I attempt to "Restore to" "Desktop" I receive the following error:

This particular file name is actually located in one of the folders, in the Calendar Folders, and is just one of the many events I would like to restore to my calendar, and the copy operation aborts when I click OK. Each time I retry this a different .ics file is the issue.

Investigating file permissions reveals nothing pertinent that I can see, because I am not attempting to cross any boundaries e.g. I'm in the user account and searching in the same user account, I wish to import Calendar Folder to.

Aperture :: Error Message - Don’t Have Permission To Save File Xx In Folder

Sep 6, 2014

When I am trying to import images into Aperture 3.4.5. I get the message:

- You don’t have permission to save the file “nilpe” in the folder “Användare”.

- To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.

To my knowledge there is no account nilpe on this computer, the account name I use is different.Somehow Aperture has mixed up permissions.(Have run the "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility.app and restarted, without any effect)(Mac Pro with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63), start up disc is a SSD and the Aperture Library is on another disk.I have previously imported thousands of images into Aperture, I am at a loss as to why this has suddenly appeared.

Software :: Finder Error 36 - Folder Won't Copy To Flashdrive

Nov 28, 2009

I have been pulling a folder with sub-folders from iMAC Desktop to a flashdrive so as to use on my Macbook when I travel. Suddenly after several months with no problems I am getting the msg "The Finder cant complete the operation because some data in * cant be read or written. (Error code -36)" The folder won't copy to flashdrive. I have checked flashdrive with Disk Utility, tried different flashdrive, to no avail. the only way I can move the folder is by moving sub-folders one by one and if they generate the same msg by moving their files one by one. I cannot move as a whole. Running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. It is possible that this commenced after installing an OS X update but i can't be sure.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Error Occurred While Restoring From The TimeMachine Backup

May 16, 2012

I have an brand new HD that I want to restore from TimeMachine. Erased and partitioned this brand new drive.  Created 2 partitions and formatted as “OS Extended Journaled/ GUID.”

Did a “Command R recovery boot” and went through the steps to backup from TM to my new HD.  15 seconds into the restoration process Msg. reads:  “Error occurred while restoring from the backup.Restart your computer and then try restoring again.”

Trouble shooting:

Luckily my original files and initial boot drive that TM was backing up from remains fine and I performed some more TM back ups as well as a TM backup onto another drive as well.

I even tried restoring to another empty drive with older backups and backups off of another HD and got the same error message.  All my BU’s and BU attempts have been within 10.7.3 on the same MP.

OS X :: Carbon Copy Cloner Backed Up To A Drive Can't Find?

Oct 8, 2009

CCC kinda went on the fritz for me tonight. About 80% of the way through my scheduled backup task, I noticed my backup drive wasn't even connected. Also, about 40 GB had been copied, whereas a typical backup usually backs up only a few MBs.
After halting the backup I noticed that the Macintosh HD had grown by about 40 GB.I'd like to erase the duplicate data before running another backup, but I can't locate the extra data. I checked the size of the Users, System, Library, Developer, and Applications folder and they add up to the approx. 60 GB I had before the backup.

My iStat shows another drive called "backup1", but a search for that in finder yields no results. Also, Disk Utility doesn't show another drive besides Macintosh HD (I have the actual backup disk disconnected at the moment).

OS X :: Restoring ICal Calendar From Time Machine

Feb 1, 2008

I've had a little bit of an accident; when trying to correct a problem with syncing with my BlackBerry via Missing Sync I reset sync services per a support article. This managed to blank my iCal calendar. No problem thinks I, as I backed up iCal beforehand with "Back up iCal". Problem is that when I restore it's still blank apart from all-day appointments. No problem thinks I, I have Time Machine! So, after a bit of searching on MacRumors I find that a restore of Library/Calendars should do the trick. Trouble is that it's still blank in iCal. When I open ical I get an "Upgrading iCal calendar" message. Weird. Again, no problem thinks I, I primarily use Entourage and sync this to iCal. So, I decide to restore Entourage data. This doesn't work and calendar is again blank. To boot, it gives me a 16008 error message whatever that is. No problem thinks I, the MacRumors folk with all their knowledge will have a suggestion.

So I start to write a post here. As I was writing the above I think I'll try Entourage one more time. I open Entourage and it all seems to be back to normal! Now, I really don't understand all of this, particularly why the iCal restore from a backup file didn't work. I was fretting I would have to ask IT to restore my mailbox from a tape backup (my calendar is on Exchange server at the office). I think before I turn on iCal-Entourage syncing again I'll take a backup from Outlook in the office. Just switched to inbox and back to calendar in Entourage and it's all blank again! The (now) blank Exchange cal must be overwriting it. So, any ideas how to successfully restore iCal from Time Machine? It seems events before today are back in iCal (and all-day events after today are there).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Possible To Copy A User's Home Folder On Machine

Mar 20, 2012

I want to sync my MacBook Pro w/ my iMac (both running Lion).I want to be able to come home from a business trip and have all of the new / edited info on my MacBook (new photos (organized & edited), changes to various folders in "documents", random files/folders added to desktop, changes made in iTunes, etc) show up on my iMac, which I work off of while at home. And of course the reverse - sync the changes on my iMac to my MacBook before I travel again.Wouldn't it be possible to copy a User's Home Folder on Machine 1 to an external drive, and then use that to replace / update the Home Folder on Machine 2?Or possibly do a complete Disc Clone (i.e. Super Duper) of Machine 1, and then use that to "restore" Machine 2? What are the pros and cons?And any better solutions? I realize that my proposals may be over simplified, but also that my goal must be a common one.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Drag/drop Or Copy/paste On Ubuntu (Parallel Desktop 7)?

Mar 21, 2012

I have two Virtual Machines running on my MacbookPro. One is Windows and the other is Ubuntu. The Windows 7 system is running perfectly well but the Ubuntu VM has got issues with dragging/dropping files from Mac to Ubuntu and vice versa.When I checked on the Parallel Desktop's forum, the only solution provided was that the Parallel Desktop's tool should be uninstalled and reinstalled; which I have done. But that didn't solve the problem. The Configuration menu "Virtual Machine" offered checkboxes for the (Copy & Paste) section, and I can confirm that both boxes for 'Share Mac Cipboard' and 'Preserve Text Formatting' are checked. That should have solved the copy/paste problem but didn't.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Copy A User's Home Folder To A Flash Drive

I can easily put subfolders onto the drive, but if I try to feed it the entire home folder it tosses it out again.  I don't know how to use Finder to reach the /Users folder, where xxx is just a subfolder, but I can do this from the terminal command line; however, then I got stuck on how to proceed: I tried to mount /dev/disk1 [which diskutil shows as its name]; each variation I'v tried runs into some problem: disk busy, not found, etc. I was using sudo commands, so I don't think it's a permissions problem.
