Software :: Builtin Ethernet - Connect Cable Doesn't Register In Network Panel

May 29, 2009

I'm having a problem using my Built -in Ethernet. I have iMac running Macosx 10.4.11. Everytime I connect a cable it doesn't register it in the Network Panel, It tells me that, 'The cable for Built - in Ethernet is not plugged in.' I have tried a couple of different cables, neither work, but they do work with my Macbook running Macosx 10.5.6. So I don't think there's a problem with the cables. Do I need to configure anything or should they work automatically as they do on the Macbook?

MacBook Pro :: ISight Doesn't Register In Adobe Connect

Dec 9, 2014

I need to take part in regular webinars using Adobe Connect for work. I had no trouble participating on my brand new Macbook Air until I (stupidly) allowed by battery to go flat mid-meeting. When I powered my Mac up and re-entered the online meeting room, Adobe Connect no longer recognized my built-in iSight camera. I now get an error message stating that no camera is detected whenever I try to connect my iSight.

I have established that the problem is application specific. My camera works fine with other programs such as Photobooth and Skype. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Adobe Connect software has not resolved the problem.

The problem does not appear to be user specific. My iSight camera does not appear in the USB device tree in System Information, even when I log in as a different user.

Resetting SMC has had no affect.

Hardware :: Hooking A G5 To A Wireless Network Using An Ethernet Cable

Jun 30, 2008

I have two G5s, one next to my ethernet/DSL line which plugs in directly for internet, and a second out in the living room where there is no DSL line. However, the house has wireless via an Extreme and two Xpress socket-plug-ins. My mac guy told me that I should be able to hook the G5 in the living room directly into the Xpress next to it via an ethernet cable (the living room G5 does not have a wireless card in it) and the wireless internet should link up via the Xpress to ethernet cable to living room G5. ? He said to make sure I had the ethernet configure box set to "using DHCP" which it is and it should automatically find the right IP address. When I try it, I get nothing though, just a message that there doesn't seem to be a network connection.

I'm here at university and the wifi here sucks! it is so slow, it is working. However there is an ethernet port and I did connect to it this morning. But, this evening I tried connecting again and it wouldnt let me!At my university they require you to put in your student ID and pw in order for you to use the internet for both wi-fi and ethernet. I went to settings and it did say that there was a connection and that "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet"

i dont understand how come now it isnt working. I aksed my classmate nextdoor if his internet port was working through the ethernet port he said it was.... i am not that tech savy so keep vocabulary to something simple lmaooo.

IMac :: Cannot Connect To Internet (DSL Modem With Ethernet Cable)

Jun 8, 2010

My father in law had a power failure at the house, and since then, he cannot connect to the internet via DSL Modem connected via ethernet cable. Being that he is 1000 miles away, I am trying to diagnose via phone. System Info: Imac 17", purchased new around 2006- Intel chip, running Tiger OS

Symptoms:
- Cannot connect via ethernet
- When searching system profiler, "Built-in Ethernet" shows up, but no MAC address
- In Network settings, he can see the various connection ports, but cannot check the box on "Built-in Ethernet" to turn the port on... won't let him.
- Wireless is not an option, I don't want to be 24/7 tech support

Diagnosis? I am thinking that the power surge may have fried the ethernet port on the motherboard.

Repair Solution: Planning on picking up the Apple USB Ethernet adapter. I know it doesn't have the correct drivers to run on Tiger, but found a driver online that claims it allows use of the usb adapter on Panther on up.

Questions - Does this sound like a fried ethernet port? Any other easy diagnostic tests I can do? Does the USB adapter sounds like a decent solution?

MacBook Pro :: Does Not Recognize Ethernet Cable Or Connect To Wireless

May 4, 2012

Today when I turned on my computer, it suddenly would not recognize any kind of Internet connection. The Ethernet cable that I use every day now shows up as 'unplugged' even though it is plugged in. I have tried using a different cable, and it still shows up as unplugged. When I try to connect to the Internet wirelessly, there is always a connection timeout and I can't connect. I use a self-assigned IP address and I've never had this problem before. I've also reset my PRAM, but it hasn't worked.

Hardware :: Get Airport Express - Connect Directly To 360 With Ethernet Cable?

Mar 13, 2010

I have an Xbox 360 set up in my bedroom which is at the opposite end of the house. I have an airport extreme base station (new model) connected to my modem and PC (PC is not wireless, thus why i have it connected).... I have the wireless adapter connected to my xbox 360. I can play online with no lag (game: modern warfare 2) when nobody is on the pc but when someone is on the pc I get very noticeable lag. I guess I am fighting to split the connection with the pc. What is my best solution? 1) Have my ISP boost the speed of my modem. I didn't know if this would help by giving us more speed to fight over. 2) Get an Airport express and set it up closer to my bedroom/xbox 360. Will the express still fight for the connection with my pc like my wireless adapter on the 360? 3) Get the airport express and connect it directly to my 360 with an ethernet cable. Will i still be fighting for connection with the pc?

IMac PPC :: G3 Slot-Loading Won't Connect To Internet Via Ethernet Cable

Apr 6, 2012

i can't connect to the internet via my ethernet cable, but this is a weird case. What's weird about it is that all my settings are O.K. (appletalk on and set to ethernet, tcp/ip set to ethernet, dhcp) and my iMac is recieving a 192 address, but it still can't connect to the internet. The dhcp settings are correct, because they are the same settings used on all my other devices (at least those that use internet anyway), and they all connect to the internet just fine. Whether via an ethernet cable, or Wi-Fi.

IMac :: Connect With Laptop With An Ethernet Or USB Cable For Fast File Transfer?

This is fine for the internet, but I'm constantly transferring large volumes of files between my laptop and iMac and it's unbearably slow. I can't connect to the router via ethernet because it's in the living room.

Can I connect my laptop and iMac up with an ethernet or USB cable for fast file transfer?

OS X :: Wireless Internet Works - Builtin Ethernet Can Ping But Not Browse Websites

Aug 25, 2010

I recently completely a wire pull from the network hub (Dell Power Connect?) in the office of a church, to a computer in a different room of the church. I plugged in the cat5e cable to the computer, it connects to the network, computers on the network can access it's public folders and remote access it, but the computer cannot browse the internet using the built-in ethernet plug. The wireless-internet on the computer allows me to navigate the internet just fine.

With the Airport turned off, and the ethernet plugged in, I can ping [URL] with 0% packet loss, but when I try to connect to google on Safari or Firefox it says that Safari/Firefox cannot connect to the server.

Hardware :: Mini Display Port To DVI Adaptor Doesn't Connect To DVI Cable?

Nov 2, 2009

I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor with the intent of connecting my TV (with DVI-in) to my MacBook in order to use front row (and plex) for films.

However when I got home, I found that the DVI female of the adaptor does not match up (or successfully connect) to the DVI male of the cable. Have I done something foolish, but it seems that there are pins on the male that do not have a corresponding socket?

I have attached an image to try and help out...

Should I just give up and seek out a VGA instead?

Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. OS X :: Ethernet Cable Connecting Ethernet Port To IPhone - Feasible?

May 20, 2009

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.
