Apple on Monday evening released two software updates for iLife '08 owners. The first, iLife Media Browser Update [2.66MB], improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues. It is recommended for all users of Aperture, iLife 08, iWork 08 and Mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard or later. Also released was iDVD 7.0.3 [27.4MB], which improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues.

Or do you imagine this will be held off until iLife 10? iLife features some of the most resource intensive apps (iMovie, Garage Band, iPhoto) used by most users so I believe that Apple could really showcase the improvements brought to Snow Leopard from both OpenCL and Grand Central by doing this asap. Here's to hoping we don't have to wait long for this functionality.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can upload and view new photos just fine into iPhoto. However, when I use any application that requires opening/inserting/uploading a file (I've tried Firefox, Safari, Flickr Uploadr, Pages etc.) the new events do not appear when clicking on Media > Photos.
This started about two weeks ago but unfortunately I haven't backed up my computer and can't go back in Time Machine.
Since I tried basic steps in automator but can't make it work.

I just went on the update system for my MacBook on the UK Apple site, and clicked that I bought it online from Apple (which I did, on my Dad's apple account) and then asked me to login, so I did with my account and it asked me for serial number and purchase date, so I typed my serial number and and chose purchase date 7th Jan, rather than 1st December (when it was actually shipped) and it's just added the iLife '09 upgrade to my cart and said my system qualifies. Am I safe to go ahead and buy it? Could I get into trouble or something for lying about the purchase date?
View 24 Replies View RelatedThis machine has been running fine. I installed ilife8 - had eyeTV running. It was slow, hanging, unhappy so I rebooted. It took a long time but eventually restarted - got the chime and after a few seconds the white screen/grey apple. No spinning wheel - no nothing. After a few minutes the CPU fans slowly go to full scream. Have to hold power switch to shut down. Won't go into single user mode, won't boot CD (can't even get the CD out of the machine, but the dvd never spins up). I've pulled all the memory except the original apple mem. I've tried my Kinston mem. There is nothing else in the machine that isn't pure apple.

So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.

I am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.
For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?
For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?
Everytime I try to run updates, it freezes at configuring and will go no further. I have let it run overnight for awhile, thinking that the particular update was large, but the next day, it was still sitting at "configuring".

These software show up on my Revo Uninstaller Pro. When I try to uninstall (e.g. Bonjour) a Windows Installer box appears which reads: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" with two buttons 'OK' and 'Cancel' after this line. Below this, another paragraph says: "Click 'OK' to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Bonjour.msi' in the box below". Below, is a box titled "Use source:" In front of it is a button 'Browse'.
long time reader, first time poster. I know this topic has been beaten to death - but I've read all the post and have not found an answer for my question.
If you have iLife 08 installed and just installed a new copy of iLife 09 - does the following happen?
1. iLife 08 gets removed.
2. All Data from iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD etc, gets transferred to the new application.
3. No Importing is required to move any of the data over the new version of the software. It just works as if you didn't even have iLife 08 in the first place.
So i have iLife '08 installed and i'm about to install iLife '09. Do i need to uninstall iLife '08 first to install iLife '09?

View 14 Replies View RelatedFor the longest time i've been using Gmail and also the offline lab feature that allows me to access my gmail via the web browser. Rather than me going into a big explaining here i'll just mention i'm befuddled on whether to stick with Gmail's offline use or switch things up to Apple's Mail; reason in doing so is i've recently been noticing how some apps like OmniFocus play nice with Apple's Mail. Also having a Gcal account and using it I can't but help and prefer Gcal tenfold over iCal. But Gcal's offline use sucks for me when using Firefox. It's always a gamble when I'm offline and want to check my Gcal, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I'm not a big fan of iCal but have it always sync'd with Gcal so am currently using iCal...and am thinking about using Mail now. I just feel I enjoy Gmail's search, starring and folder system.
Plus I think I remember that when I include my account in Mail I see it downloading the 3GB's of Mail I have..and even though i'd assume Gmail would do the same, I never see where it goes which rests uneasy with me..
I have a late 2008 aluminium macbook, recently "clean" installed snow leopard, everything cool apart from the recurring issue with adobe acrobat pro 9 64bit pdf printer driver, anyway. How do I know whether or not I have the apple firmware updates from this site [URL]. Is there any way of checking or have they just be integrated with the snow leopard install. Also is it still ok the drive makes a noise when you either turn the macbook on and / or when the macbook comes out of sleep. Apple fixed this with a firmware update for the imac and etc, has there been one for the Macbook?

I went to www.itunes.com as it told me to and I went to the downloads page. Usually you enter your email and click the download button. My problem is there is is no download button or email box! I need to download the latest iTunes and I can't. I did a software update, but it does include iTunes I tried it on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, all coming up with the same thing. I am also using a Mac.

I just found out that Apple is no longer providing security updates on Mac OS X 10.5. What can I do to keep my comupter safe? I bought my laptop in Sept. '08 and I am not inclined to fork over a couple of thousand dollars when I have a perfectly functioning laptop.

We have no room for an iMac.Currently we stream our personal music to our hifi in the lounge using an Airport Express. "Safari 4 is the fastest and most efficient browser for Mac and Windows, with great integration of HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards that enables the next generation of interactive web applications."
Performance
In terms of performance, Apple claims Safari 4's new Nitro JavaScript engine executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than Microsoft's IE 7 and more than three times faster than Firefox 3. It's also said to load HTML web pages three times faster than IE 7 and almost three times faster than Firefox 3. Safari 4 also represents the latest chapter in Apple's efforts to maintain its leadership role in defining and implementing web standards, with built in support for HTML 5 and CSS 3 -- two technologies critical in supporting an entirely new class of web applications that feature rich media, graphics and fonts. Safari 4 Beta tracks the sites you browse and ranks your favorites, presenting up to 24 thumbnails on a single page.
Specifically, the Cupertino-based company said the new browser includes HTML 5 support for offline technologies so web-based applications can store information locally without an Internet connection. A recent technology demonstration by Google highlighted the advantages this technology when it showed off a version of Gmail running offline on the iPhone's mobile version of Safari, which already includes support for some HTML 5 standards. Apple also said that Safari 4 is the first browser to support advanced CSS Effects that enable highly polished web graphics using reflections, gradients and precision masks. Similarly, it's said to be the first browser to pass the Web Standards Project's Acid3 test, which examines how well a browser adheres to CSS, JavaScript, XML and SVG web standards that are specifically designed for dynamic web applications.
Cover Flow offers a highly visual way of reviewing your site history and bookmarked sites, presenting full-page previews. Safari for Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPod touch are all built on Apple's WebKit, which the company has billed the "world's fastest and most advanced browser engine." Apple developed WebKit as an open source project to create the world's best browser engine and to advance the adoption of modern web standards. Most recently, WebKit led the introduction of HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards and is known for its fast, modern code-base. Some of the industry's newest browsers are based on WebKit including Google Chrome, the Google Android browser, the Nokia Series 60 browser and Palm webOS. Safari 4 relocates the tab bar to the top of the browser window to provide "more room for you to enjoy the sites you're reading".
