Jun 7, 2012I have a simple automator sequence that suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. Copy Finder Items has started returning an error "the file xxx couldn't be saved to the folder yyy" Happens for different files and folders. Can't see anythng that's changed.Â

Oct 29, 2009I can upload and view new photos just fine into iPhoto. However, when I use any application that requires opening/inserting/uploading a file (I've tried Firefox, Safari, Flickr Uploadr, Pages etc.) the new events do not appear when clicking on Media > Photos.
This started about two weeks ago but unfortunately I haven't backed up my computer and can't go back in Time Machine.

Apr 8, 2012MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8 Anytime I try to upload or add a file to a program, ie: Attach a file to an email, or something of the sort, the media related spotlights on the sidebar appear empty, even though I have plenty of items that should be shown when clicked on. The finder upload window drops down, and I'll click on iTunes or another media related tab, but none of my music, playlists, or items related to that tab show up. This occurs for any program (Chrome, Safari, Email, iTunes, Mixed In Key).Â

It works perfectly when I click on "Run" within Automator. My my new service shows up in the System Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts/Services and I was able to give it a Keyboard Shortcut. However, it does not show up in any menu,ie, Finder/Services.

I tried around with some variables, but just couldn't manage to get the Application working in the end.How do I get the Application to name the output PDF like the input?

Mar 25, 2012On the App Store I saw an item CleanMyDesktop but folks complained it didn't get all file types. So I thought I'd try it with my modest Automator abilities: FIND, FILTER, MOVE TO FOLDER...BUT...but it only works if there are files of that type on the desktop, so if there happens to be no pics, the application stops right there, or if there are no docs, it stops there, etc.But if I put an item of each file type on the Desktop, sure enough it runs all the way to the conclusion. So how can I fix this? Tell it to move on even if there are no items of that type of MOVE. 'Cause right now it ain't good. I tried this to clean my Desktop and now I'm tossing junk all over the Desktop so the app can finish.

May 8, 2012I have set up and sucessfully tested a workflow which sends any file found in a particular folder to the "paperless" app, then moves all files to a different folder called "Archived attachments".HOWEVER as a folder action, nothing happens when a file is put into the folder. The file just sits there in the folder. To create a folder action I opened "new folder action" in Automator, then dragged and dropped the working workflow file into the workspace, then set "Folder Action recieves files and folders added to" the appropriate folder, let's call it "Attachments".Just to complicate things, the files are placed into the "Attachments" folder using an applescript that captures all pdf mail attachments. This applescript works succesfully. [code]

May 28, 2012I get datalogger files every night that come in the .dat format.I need to process them in OpenOffice.calc to show the results. OO.calc will not read a .dat file, but if I manually change the .dat to .csv it works fine.I don't know enough about Automator to write the script.Doing it by record doesn't work.

Jun 21, 2012I'm kind of new to Automator and I'm trying to come up with a sequence that will severely save me a few hours a day moving files from two larger folders into smaller folders. Basically the setup is that I have two folders, one constantly being populated with images and the other with video files. They each have file names starting with a two digit number (i.e. 12, 11, 10...) or "BG" and then a two digit number (i.e. BG12, BG11, BG10...) with the digits corresponding to a year. Essentially, I'd need to move the files into folders corresponding to the year (i.e. files starting with BG12 and 12 would be moved to 2012, files starting with BG11 and 11 would be moved to 2011, etc). As it stands now, I've only been able to get the 2012 folder populated.

This is working great, though it redownloads every image each time I run the workflow. Is there a way that I can have Automator check to see if the image exists in the folder prior to download and only downloading if it doesn't? This would save a lot of time and be much more efficient for me.Â

Mar 30, 2012I have not been able to connect to the AppStore. My internet connection may be too slow or there is some other problem. The Apple helpdesk is less than helpful. They do not assist with connection problems. Result: No AppStore for me. So How do I upgrade to Lion? (The problem started when the Lion USB stick was not yet available)Â One possible solution is to buy a new MacBook. I may have to, because the one I am using is falling apart.Â
So, suppose I have this brand new MacBook and no connection to the AppStore. Is there a way to create a recovery DVD or USB stick from the new MacBook, without buying the official USB stick?Â
All articles about Lion recovery assume that you have an internet connection. I have news: not every internet connection counts as an internet connection as far as Apple is concerned. Funny thing is, that all updates to Leopard and Snow Leopard went without problems.Â

ITunes :: Media Folder Location Moved - Deleted All Media?
Apr 24, 2012I recently changed the iTunes Media Folder default location to a different area on my drive. I waited a couple minutes and the files did not move. I was unaware you had to go into your settings and also select to consolodate files. Since the files didn't move I reselected my default location and kept trying to go back and forth a couple times. After letting it sit for a couple more minutes I noticed over 200 GB's of files were missing. I looked in each folder I tried to change the default Media Folder location to but they were not in either of them. I have also ran multiple system file recover programs and been unable to find them.Â
