Im looking for feed back as to reason why my safari menu bar and dock are suddenly hidden from the screen and how to correct this. Has this happened to anyone else and were you able to fix it. I'm a bit confused since it has never done this before and I didn't make any changes in settings.Â

I have an iBookG4 with Leopard. This morning I may have had too many applications going at once--camera applications plus listening to a talk using RealPlayer. Suddenly everything froze, but I got it all going again. However, now the little balls that appear under an application icon to show that the app. is open are missing. Also, when I click the icon, e.g., for Firefox which I'm using right now, the pop-up menu gives me the option to "Open" it, when, obviously, it's already open. There is no "Close" option in the menu anymore. I AM able to quit applications by clicking their name in the menu bar at the top of the screen. But I'm disturbed that this weirdness has happened. Things I've tried already, without effect:
1. Restarted computer. The computer won't shut down. Everything on my desktop disappears except for the wallpaper and the Dock.
2. Shut down computer (chose "Shut Down" as opposed to "Restart"). Same as #1. Won't shut down.
3. "Force Quit"--clicking on the Apple icon > Force Quit > clicking on the name of the application in the little window. Note: I haven't used Word this morning, but Apple icon > Force Quit > [little window] brought up a whole list of applications I haven't used, inc. Word.
4. Repair Disc Permissions
Sometimes when I restart my machine running 10.5.8 my desktop background appears but my dock, top menu and desktop icons do not appear. If I force a shutdown and restart, everything comes up normally. This doesn't happen every time I restart, but it has started only recently. I've repaired permissions already.

My dock and menu disappear only when I am using Safari. They re-appear when I hover my mouse at the location that they should be at, but for some reason their default positions are to be hidden.The dock and menu are present for all other apps and when I'm on the desktop--basically whenever Safari isn't "chosen" as the active window. I have checked to make sure that Safari is NOT in Full Screen mode.

After updating my OS X which brought Safari up to 5.1.7 the saved links I had in my dock are blank. Even though i can click in that area and the pages will load. I can't figure out how to fix this.   Also, when I drag a link from the address bar to the desktop the icon that appears is nothing more than a blank white page. Â

since the 10.7.4 update, I have the url shortcuts icon missing in my dock: When draging a new URL from safari to the dock, it's the same problem. The icon is invisible but there is a gap between the other icons and the name of the url's page is displayed when passing the cursor. This problem is only with URL shortcuts and no with jpg or pdf or mp3 or folder sortcuts etc.. I have already reboot the dock and make a disk permissions check and repair. I've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.

I am using a wireless mouse on my intel iMac, and when I am using Safari, and no other program, when I am navigating, the screen will suddenly zoom in and get huge. I don't think I am doing anything repeatable when this happens. I cannot do anything to zoom back out. So, I need to go back a page and start over at the normal screen size. This is annoying, especially when I have just reached a page I need to see.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Aluminium IMac keyboard has suddenly begun to miss keys, the E,P,D,C and both the back and spacebar keys are completely dead. I wasn't using it at the time but each key supposedly went one after each other in under thirty minutes, I've checked mouse keys and speech settings as well as removing keys to clean underneath but they weren't sticky to begin with. Sorry for the lack of detail using the onscreen keyboard takes quite a while to type coherently.

I did a reboot and suddenly realized that half of my icons on the Desktop are missing. I had a look into the folder and they were missing there, too. I looked into Trash, nothing. Being completely puzzled I rebooted again, with the result that now the Desktop is completely empty! It shows only the HD icons. None of my files are in the Trash. Nothing in the Desktop folder in Finder. ls -al doesn't show anything, only an empty file '.localized'. No other folder in my home directory seems affected. And no, I did not play with 'rm *'. I didn't install any fancy software recently (except Byki Express, not sure if that's important). I'm on a new unibody MBP 15", Leopard. Any ideas what I could do? And how to recover the files? I thought I should add that I also also searched the HD, just in case I accidentally moved the files.

far the first thing that I have noticed that is buggy is that all my menu bar items are missing. Spotlight appears for two seconds then disappears. I have tried enabling everything in system preferences but when I go into some of the preferences it freezes up. I have also removed all third party apps from the menu bar. I am currently doing a Disk Permission check and repair if needed but this has me thinking this is not going to be a smooth transition like it was from Tiger to Leopard.

Now for some reason the Eject icon is on the far right where Spotlight should be. Also the keyboard shortcut is not working. To do a search I have to now go to the finder and hit Command-F. So I thought to myself I'll try it out. So I followed the tutorial to where the last step I did was to restart the computer. Well it is missing now however there is still a process being shown in the Activity Monitor, FDEStatusMenu, that is for that.
Is there anyway I could go into Terminal and restart that show it shows the icon? (There are no menu options to show it)

The problem is that when booted up I cant see the dock or the menu bar at the top on the monitor. my finder window opens but I cant open any apps. Or if I do they don't show in the monitor.
