All of my playlists on itunes are missing, I have not deleted them.

I've been using iTunes ever since it came out and I use it all the time. Suddenly today I can't move songs around in my playlists. I tried making a new playlist and moving songs from the library into it and even that doesn't work (I can't actually move a song from my music library into any playlist any more)Â
I've checked through all the other threads where people have had this problem and done everything suggested but nothing is working. I do have the playlist number arrow highlightedI do have manual ordering turned on in the view optionsI've logged out and restarted several timesI have shuffle turned off
The only possible thing I can think of is that I got an invitation to upgrade to iTunes 11.4 which I said I would download, but although I've been taken into the app store, nothing is showing. Could it be something to do with iTunes 11.4 or the app store?

As the title says i have installed the new version of itunes and it has removed my playlists, everyone even the recently added etc.
When I got home and synced my Iphone 4S with Itunes, Itunes deleted all the playlists that i had deleted on my phone.
Does anyone know a way that I can restore the files to my Mac?

I just upgraded to 10.6 - and was horrified to find out when opening iTunes again, my playlists, podcasts, purchased items, etc weren't there. It's a total iTunes reboot! All my audio content is stored on an external HDD (yes, its plugged in) - though the iTunes Libraries are on my laptop.Â
how to recover these without having to go through the hassle of Time Machine?Â

Having a bit more time, i stuffed up my iTunes library and can't fix it and would really appreciate any kind of advice.
A few things reg my mac and myself before I come to the core of the problem:
I have a macbook air, no 'extras' inside (normal 1.6GHz) and it's running at home with an airport and an external HDD of a few gig to store my data and backups. OS is Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540).
I am not a mac specialist and just started using mac roughly over a year ago and never got the real 'cores' but bit by bit I get there (I thought ).
And just btw I am not an english native speaker so I may phrase things 'funny' from time to time
I have my music, videos etc on my ext HDD and a copy of music on my mac as I like to have it with me 'on the road'.
As I was the only user it was just in my 'Music' folder
My bf just moved in and is wrapped by the mac anyway and had a user for a while. With his new iphone I *wanted* to copy the music to Users/Shared so we both can have it in our iTunes
This proofed to be not that easy as I couldn't give him access rights even though the music was in this 'shared' folder. With the 'information' of each folder I tried to give him access rights (rea & write) but even by doing so for some folders and their sub-folders, I still can't import these files into his library.
So there are my first (hopefully quite basic questions)
How can I give him access to all these music folders so he can load them into his iTunes? As I would like to prevent to click each folder and sub-folder - is there a way to speed this up?
Standing for this problems and having messed up my music a bit as the links of my itunes weren't updated to the new music location, I somehow (stupid stupid stupid) tried to make it work without making any backups of my library files and without having any in-dept knowledge about iTunes and how it actually works/ stores its information etc.
To cut a long story short: my whole iTunes it totally 'empty' : no movies, music, even iphone apps are there anymore and even when I connect my iphone nothing happens. I have no backup what-so-ever and unfortunately can't give you the steps I went to mess it up that way because I just panicked along the way and didn't trace my steps or stopped at the right moment to look up some handy and useful manuals/ guides. Would love to explain an interesting and maybe challenging error for you guys but that's the boring truth.
I was wondering if it makes sense if I de-intall iTunes now completely and then re-install it and import the music/ movies into both users iTunes and make a clean set up. As it is Christmas time I have a bit of time and this wouldn't bother me too much. So the question is here: would you recommend this / agree? Are there any tipps you would give me/ things to do to make this work?
And this of course still leave me with my access rights problems as all the music folders are under "shared" and my bf's account somehow doesn't have access to it. I have still a backup of that data on my ext HDD so I could delete it on my notebook and re-copy it to somewhere if I know where/ how to make it work.
Hope this is not too messy for you all to read through! I would really appreciate if I would get some hints/ tipps/ advice from you.
Oh something I forgot: before I wrote here I searched this forum and some others as well the apple standard help and tried to 're-create' my library but as deleted my rubbish bin within my mess-up-process I think I deleted the original files.
I think part of the whole problem is the missing back up and of course my half-knowledge of mac/ iTunes.
My Aluminium IMac keyboard has suddenly begun to miss keys, the E,P,D,C and both the back and spacebar keys are completely dead. I wasn't using it at the time but each key supposedly went one after each other in under thirty minutes, I've checked mouse keys and speech settings as well as removing keys to clean underneath but they weren't sticky to begin with. Sorry for the lack of detail using the onscreen keyboard takes quite a while to type coherently.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI did a reboot and suddenly realized that half of my icons on the Desktop are missing. I had a look into the folder and they were missing there, too. I looked into Trash, nothing. Being completely puzzled I rebooted again, with the result that now the Desktop is completely empty! It shows only the HD icons. None of my files are in the Trash. Nothing in the Desktop folder in Finder. ls -al doesn't show anything, only an empty file '.localized'. No other folder in my home directory seems affected. And no, I did not play with 'rm *'. I didn't install any fancy software recently (except Byki Express, not sure if that's important). I'm on a new unibody MBP 15", Leopard. Any ideas what I could do? And how to recover the files? I thought I should add that I also also searched the HD, just in case I accidentally moved the files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm looking for feed back as to reason why my safari menu bar and dock are suddenly hidden from the screen and how to correct this. Has this happened to anyone else and were you able to fix it. I'm a bit confused since it has never done this before and I didn't make any changes in settings.Â

I have an iBookG4 with Leopard. This morning I may have had too many applications going at once--camera applications plus listening to a talk using RealPlayer. Suddenly everything froze, but I got it all going again. However, now the little balls that appear under an application icon to show that the app. is open are missing. Also, when I click the icon, e.g., for Firefox which I'm using right now, the pop-up menu gives me the option to "Open" it, when, obviously, it's already open. There is no "Close" option in the menu anymore. I AM able to quit applications by clicking their name in the menu bar at the top of the screen. But I'm disturbed that this weirdness has happened. Things I've tried already, without effect:
1. Restarted computer. The computer won't shut down. Everything on my desktop disappears except for the wallpaper and the Dock.
2. Shut down computer (chose "Shut Down" as opposed to "Restart"). Same as #1. Won't shut down.
3. "Force Quit"--clicking on the Apple icon > Force Quit > clicking on the name of the application in the little window. Note: I haven't used Word this morning, but Apple icon > Force Quit > [little window] brought up a whole list of applications I haven't used, inc. Word.
4. Repair Disc Permissions
I want to keep the order of one of my playlists so it cannot be altered if i click the wrong button...in order of the plays/songs.
I heard "Copy to Play Order? works but doesn't seem to fix the playlist not to move. I just want it to be secure in the order. Also is there a way to make Itunes a mix of my own, like the Genius Mixes? Or a way to save the playlist order? So if something happen i could get it back?
I have recently transferred over my itunes library from macbook to new imac using home sharing. Now I would like to transfer my playlists. Is there an easy way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know some of you out there will probably think I'm nuts, but please read the whole message first.
I have been disabled for a number of years, and recently a friend of mine purchased for me a refurbished MacBook Pro 15" 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo laptop, which, as you might guess I love, since my last Mac laptop was the 1999 PPC G3 400Mhz that croaked about 5 years ago.
Fortunately, before that late, semi-great machine died, I was able to copy to an external drive my entire iTunes folder, which contains the "iTunes Music Library" file as well as the "iTunes Music" folder with more than 1,000 songs in it. I do NOT have any written documentation on my playlists.
Now, many years later, I have this great machine that I love, and I cannot for the life of me figure a way to import my Mac OS 9 iTunes PLAYLISTS into Mac OS X iTunes 9. Additionally, the song file folders, structured perfectly in Mac OS 9, now get recreated in truly bisarre ways in iTunes 9, where I get multiple folders by the same artist if that artist has ever done a duet with someone, and soundtracks have been broken out into individual folders by each artist on the soundtrack, instead of all the songs being placed into ONE folder with the soundtrack's name on it, as it is in the Mac OS 9 iTunes Music folder.
All I want to do is recreate my library and playlists as they were in Mac OS 9, using iTunes 9 in Mac OS X 10.6.
I've recently bought an iMac having previously only used PCs.
Using a external hard drive that backed-up the PC I've moved my iTunes library to the mac. However, I've not been able to bring over my playlists.

I'm running iTunes 10.5.3 and cannot burn CDs from my playlists. I'm getting 'burner in use by another application', even after restarting, and prior I was getting a 'medium write error'. System is 10.7.3 OS X, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently any new playlists I create in iTunes are not appearing as an option to sync to my iPhone or iPad. I am manually managing music and have other playlists checked to sync and they work fine. But, if I create a new playlist it simply does not show up. If I delete a playlist it disappears from the available options to sync but nothing when I create a new one.

I am having a very bad moment right now.I have nearly 4TB of content, movies, music apps..etc.I have not made any changes to my MAC, I installed the latest version of iTunes when it came out.Everyhthing was working perfectly fine, until tonight, simply upon closing Itunes and reopening,my iTunes was like it was just installed, there is no content in my library, (Everything in my external HD's, just not on itunes)Â only the three tabs that show content that come enabled by default are on. It is as if I had just installed Itunes..
My nearly 10,000 ratings are gone, playlists, and playcounts from two years. anybody give me some insight into how to readd my content without losing my valubable information that I just listed.I repeat, I have not installed or made any changes in weeks, it just happened upon closing and reopening.

Having had some problems I used the Disk Utility to check the HD and it told me to reformat it. I copied the entire disk to an external drive, reformatted the HD then downloaded a new installation of Mavericks 10.9.5 as had been previously installed. The system is now back up but how do I recover the preferences and other information to run them on the HD as before. I have simply copied most of my applications across but, for instance, my mailboxes have all gone and my signatures. The iTunes does not have my playlists etc. etc..

So all my itunes purchases are in the cloud which is great. What about playlists. Doesn't seem there is any way to put those on a cloud? Is the only way to replicate them everywhere by manually plugging in and syncing?

I buy a lot of old cd's bc they are cheaper than buying them on itunes store, and i have a hard copy just in case. when i add the cd's to my itunes, they automatically go into Recently Added. I have a folder titled "Non Language" that I would like to move them to, but I can't highlight and copy them.
View 1 Replies View Relateda new problem with my MacBook I think. The iTunes widget on my dashboard isn't working correctly, when I click on the i button to turn around the widget to select a playlist, the dashboard freezes temporarily and when it turns around there are no playlists to select. I know I have loads of playlists and I am using the original iTunes widget that came installed on the machine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've search high and dry for the answer to this question, so sorry if I'm the millionth person to ask...
About a year ago I finally did the right thing and bought a 1TB external HD for my 'G4 Dual Optical'.
I put all my music (and other stuff) on it and went into iTunes Preferences>Advance and changed the 'iTunes Music Folder Location' to my External HD.
Easy Peasy!
Then in January ('09), I upgraded the OS from OS X v10.4 to v10.5.6.
I did a complete fresh install, everything was fine, except when I redirected iTunes to my External HD I'd lost all my Playlists!
As you can imagine this was slightly frustrating as I have over 7000 songs in my iTunes library! A couple of weeks ago, I spent hours and hours re-creating new playlist folders, and putting them in some kind of organization again.
Now, this is my Question:
I've now bought a new Mac and I was just getting everything over to the new one, this will be easy as everything is backed up, but how do I save those play lists?
I notice I can 'right-click' on a play list and I have a choice of things I can do!
Maybe it's this? I'd be very grateful if somebody could explain in "Layman's Terms", how I can do this, as the idea of having to organize the library again is a daunting one!
While getting iTunes ready for my new iPhone tonight I found something strange. I have duplicates showing up in playlists that ARE NOT duplicates in my Music library.
For example, in my Library I show to have 9 albums, 104 items and 892.4MB of Bruce Springsteen.
I created a new Playlist called iPhone 4. This playlist will of course be used for my new device. I'm moving from 16GB to 32GB so I can double the amount of music on my iPhone. Well in that iPhone 4 playlist Bruce Springsteen shows to have 9 albums and 149 songs and 1.22GB. There are several duplicates in there of songs. There are also several others artists with similiar results.
I guess my question is, how can there be duplicates in the playlist, if they are not showing as duplicates in my Library?
I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 and I hadn't noticed any issues but then today for no reason at all when I connected my ipod touch to my computer to charge it, iTunes opened (as normal) and all my music was missing along with all my playlists. Why did this happen & does anyone know a fix for this?? I checked my HDD#2 (where all my music is located) and it's all there...
I was wondering if there was a way to sync iTunes playlists between my computers.
for example, if I make a playlist on my MBP is there a way to sync it to my iMac?
Main reason is I have a few playlists on my MBP that I use and sync with my iPod Touch but my wife wants them on her iPad but I have it set up with the library on the iMac.....
i recently bought a macbook pro, and copied much of my information from my desktop G4 profile over... my Mail works great. All my iTunes music loaded, just not the playlists i assembled. I have that old profile as an alternate User profile on this Macbook, i'd just like to copy some preferences from that profile into this one, so i'll have my playlists. Can you tell me where OS 10.4.7 (the old profile OS) stores that info?
on my iMac I have a full set of iTunes playlists and songs. I bought a new MacBook Pro today and transferred my entire Music ---> iTunes folder to the Music folder on the new Macbook Pro. My question is, how can I have it so that I have all my playlists from the old computer (I don't want to have to sort through all my songs). Is there a preference file I have to import or is the iTunes folder enough? How should I import it?

So I updated my MacBook Pro last night and now my playlists wont shuffle correctly. When I turn on the shuffle feature and I have a column selected (number, rating, etc), all it does is rearrange the songs. it's not a real shuffle because I can still see which song is coming next (ie, songs 1, 2, and 3 might become 3, 1, and 2, but they'll still play in that order). When I turn on the shuffle feature without any column being selected, nothing happens. even though the shuffle button is blue, the songs in the playlists play in their exact order. the shuffle only seems to work properly when im playing music out of the entire music library, not one playlist.
