The shutdown and menu items are missing from the apple menu.Â
Also, the finder always starts up in simple mode. If I switch to full finder, I still do not have any shutdown or restart.Â

my "services" menu has disappeared as an option in finder. When I try to access it by right-clicking a finder item (folder or file), it's just plain missing. However if I look for it under the finder menu bar, the arrow beside service says 'building'. But I've been waiting for hours and it doesn't look like anything's happening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy safari menu bar is missing. The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc. I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.Â

I have been dealing with AppleCare and they seem to be a little stumpted, so I am going to try everyone else.
When I boot up, I no longer get the items in the menu bar like date, time, wireless, bluetooth status, etc.
In the Apple Menu, things like "About this Mac", reboot, shut down, etc. Do nothing.
System Preferences gives me a beachball.
I have just recently did a CLEAN install. The install worked fine.
I then changed the time to EST and updated to 10.5.7. I did not do all the other updates...wanted to take it slow.
I am back to the issue again!
There is nothing installed on this computer other than Leopard!
It is a 15" Macbook Pro 4GB memory, Intel processor...etc.
At first Apple thought a 3rd party app may have corrupted some preferences. This can not be the case....
Thoughts? Could it be bad hardware??? The machine is just over 2 years old.
I was playing with the "sudo" command & the entire system was erased , at least I learnt something new, so I reinstalled the whole thing. I noticed before there was my name displayed on the menu bar, now I don't see it. It's not an important issue but I just wonder why & how to fix it, or how to customize it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use Autodesk Maya, I find that there are so many menu items that they don't all display. I can hide some of the defaults e.g. battery, volume etc but I don't like hiding them. Is there anyway to get them all to display or any plugin that adds a second bar.

After the latest update from mac this week all of my menu items on the upper right side of the window are gone. Clock, airport, sound, all of it. Have done everything from re-install to tech tool pro, to disk permission repair, called Apple, deleted old preferences, deleted possible conflicts.... you name it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt would be very useful if you could customise the contents of the "Go" menu found throughout the Finder. The possibility of adding apps/utilities or folders (with keyboard shortcuts) would be brilliant! Is there any way of doing so?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8, one of the 2008 black/white models. Yesterday, I was messing around with my computer because the hard drive will not show up in the finder (I already did the system preferences, doesn't work). However, I guess I must have deleted something because when I restarted my computer, the menu bar blinks in and out unless i get onto safari but I can't get into finder at all. Also, All of my items on my desk top are gone. And I can't get into Itunes (file locked, on a locked disk, or do not have written permission to enter it)
I'm assuming this means I need to take it in and get it fixed. But I wanted to see if I can do anything to avoid that because I am in college and have a paper every week so I pretty much live off of my computer.
my menu bar items such as wireless, time, and battery life even spot light are not showing anymore, i installed applejack and it did nothing, i tried going into prefrences i click on adding them to the menu bar, but the check mark disappears after 5 sec and nothing shows up,

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an issue where some of my sent items do not get saved to the Sent Items folder. Â
The email account in question is a work Exchange Server 2003 one and I have it set up as an IMAP account. I have the correct sent items folder configured so that all my devices (mac at home, iPad and iPhone) all sync perfectly with it. The problem appears to occur, sometimes but not always, in the following circumstances:Â When I am connected to the work network via ethernet. When the email size is quite large.Â
Bizarrely when I unplug the ethernet and connect to the office network wirelessly there is no issue. There is another mac in the office running on Snow Leopard (I'm Lion) at it has exactly the same issue.Â
Needless to say this isn't an ideal situation particularly when dealing with work emails.

My iTunes library resides on an external hard drive, and I wanted to reformat it from FAT32 to Mac OS Extended. I moved the entire contents to another HD, reformatted, then moved everything back. I started iTunes and all items had an exclamation point next to them (original file could not be found). I checked iTunes>Preferences>Advanced and was surprised to see that iTunes Media Folder Location was still set to the original location on the MacBook's HD, since I've been using the external for a few months now. In any case, I changed the folder location to the iTunes folder on the external and that mostly fixed the problem with the exclamation points. There were still certain songs that couldn't be found. I chose one, clicked Locate and found it on the external. iTunes then very helpfully found 127 other items based on that location. However, there are still 149 items that can't be found, and they don't seem to be on any of my HDs. Some of them were purchased from iTunes, some were ripped from CD and some were free tracks found on various artist/label sites. Where could they have disappeared to?

When my Mac boots it opens load of apps in my menu bar (InsomniaX, iAlertU, LogMeIn, EverNote) this is annoying, uses memory (probably) and it makes it look cluttered how do i stop them from loading.
I have checked the preferences in each app and there is nothing there and there is nothing in Login items in accounts in system prefs.
I am having a bit of an issue. I understand that holding down command, clicking on an OS X menu bar item and dragging right or left will allow me to reposition the menu bar items. However, how do I do this with third party applications?
I can only reposition Leopard's menu bar items. Does anyone have any ideas that they would be willing to share?
I am wondering if there is a way to decrease the space between menu items (the things on the right side of the menu bar). There is so much wasted space between them, especially the battery percentage and the time.
Also, if anyone knows of a way to kill some of the unnecessary 3rd party menu items that don't have an option in their preferences to not display the menu item.
For some reason when I try to activate some menu bar items, they won't stay active long enough for me to write or click a button. For example, when I click on the Fantasical calendar app, I can write and schedule a calendar event, but when I launch say the small window in the menu bar for Day One diary, it won't stay open. When I use the keyboard shortcut to activate Alfred, the app launcher, that window also won't stay open in order for me to write my input. I hope this is coming across clear. If need be I can do a screen capture to illustrate the problem. This is very annoying, and I really need to fix it. I ran disk repair a couple of times, but I don't know what else to do.

I bought a new MacBook Pro Wednesday and the items on the right side of the menu bar go away and then come back every so often. This just started and I don't like it. The clock and wifi and all the other things are gone.
How do I get these back? Thanks Oh this is running Leopard, it didn't come with Snow Leopard.
Lately, my iMac (Snow Leopard, mid 2007) is beachballing quite much and I just discovered one problem with Finder. I have to Move To Trash options (see attachment). I wonder what that comes from and if it could be the reason of the beach balls.

Please take a quick look at the attached screenshots.
One screenshot shows the contextual menu (Ctrl-click or Right-clik) of the selected png image file on my desktop.
The other screenshot shows the "services" menu (Finder—>Services) for the same file.
I believe that normally the two screenshots should show the exact same set of services available for that file. However, as you can see, the contextual menu is missing one service, namely the mail.app service that attaches the selected file to a new mail message.
How come? This is driving me crazy because the missing service is one I use regularly, and I hate having to dig into the menu structure to find it every time. Right-clicking is just so much faster.
We have an older IMac (preIcloud) and just purchased a new Macbook Air. Our Iphones are set-up to synch with the IMAC and my calendars on the IMac & the phone look the same. But when I open ICal on the MacBook Air my calendar is missing items?

Prior to Lion, whenever I open a window at bottom it would show # of items and space available in that window. Now all that info is missing in Lion. How can I get it back? Looking at options under Finder, I don't spot a way to restore like "15 items, 7GB available" as I used to see.

When opening a Mail message with any sort of scripting, many of the menu items remain greyed out, including the one that's important to me, 'Save Attachments...'.Â
If I manually open the same message, the menu items are enabled.Â
Try this script, by resetting the mailbox name to one of your own mailboxes, and you'll see what I mean.Â
(I've lodged a bug report).Â

far the first thing that I have noticed that is buggy is that all my menu bar items are missing. Spotlight appears for two seconds then disappears. I have tried enabling everything in system preferences but when I go into some of the preferences it freezes up. I have also removed all third party apps from the menu bar. I am currently doing a Disk Permission check and repair if needed but this has me thinking this is not going to be a smooth transition like it was from Tiger to Leopard.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what is going on, but some time ago my Spotlight icon in the menubar disappeared. Now for some reason the Eject icon is on the far right where Spotlight should be. Also the keyboard shortcut is not working. To do a search I have to now go to the finder and hit Command-F. I really miss not having Spotlight

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to macs. I just got my first MacBook pro two weeks ago. So last night I was browsing the Internet and I saw a tutorial on how to get a black menu bar. So I thought to myself I'll try it out. So I followed the tutorial to where the last step I did was to restart the computer. So I restarted it and when it came on the top menu bar was missing and I couldn't open anything on the dock so I'm typing all this from my phone.
