OS X :: Mail CPU Usage Spikes To Over 100 Percent

OS X Yosemite :: Why Mail 8.1 Running At 400% CPU Usage

Dec 2, 2014

Why Mail is running at 400% cpu usage while trying to download an email?  I have an Apple email account and Exchange account set up with Mail.  I never ran into any problem with Mavericks but after upgrading to Yosemite, Mail now frequently runs up to 400% any time it is open.  The problem only occurs when Mail is trying to get a message from the server, although it does not hang on every email, only certain ones that I can see in the 'Activity' Window.  I've already tried to delete the accounts and restart from scratch.  Now my co-worker just upgraded to Yosemite is experiencing the exact same problem on his macbook.  The only way to temporarily fix the problem is to delete that specific email message Mail is trying to get from the server.  It will be fine until it hangs on another email later on.  The program is still usable but will drain the battery in less than an hour just for having Mail open.  Now I only open Mail when I want to check emails if I'm on battery only, then immediately close it.

OS X :: Safari Versus Firefox RAM Usage

Feb 18, 2006

I'm sure you've all read about the Firefox memory leak brouhaha. Firefox 1.5+ is supposed to suck down memory like there is no tomorrow.

Someone made this challenge:

[URL]

"If you keep opening tabs in Firefox say, more than 10 or 15 the browser starts to slow to a crawl. See how many tabs you can open, but participate at your own risk! Oh, and uh... be sure to save all of your work first."

Well I ran that test. I opened 33 tabs in FF 1.5.01 on my iBook (see sig). FF doesn't bat an eyelash, no slowdown whatsoever.

MacBook :: CPU Usage Very High Just Using Safari/firefox?

Mar 6, 2009

The HD crashed about 2 years ago, and since the replacement (TOSHIBA MK6034GSX 60GB) the CPU will go very hot 80+C and the fan going to 6200rpm if visiting some internet pages. Normally a problem if (when) the kids are playing free online games or visiting youtube or similar. Made a screenshot, notice CPU usage around 112%, smartfan showing 70C and 6200rpm. I have taken the mac physically apart and cleaned the cooling duct and applyed new thermal paste. Didn't help. It drives me crazy, I hate noisy computers.

Safari :: Slow System Response Due To Its Web Content CPU Usage

Jun 18, 2012

I have about 200 Tabs open and a DSL line.  Safari Web Content frequently uses near or more than 100% of my CPU time, and the computer runs dead slow.

How can I modify Web Content so that it does not refresh tabs in the background?

Maybe I can at least get a "toggle" to control when it tries to access that huge junk server at "url..." ?Right now its taking over 30 seconds to respond to clicks, and then the same sort of delay before drawing the new screen.

Safari :: Mail Link/Mail Contents Giving Error - "Safari Can't Create An Email Message Because Google Chrome.app Doesn't Support"?

Apr 5, 2012

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

OS X :: Safari Keeps Crashing

Nov 5, 2010

I'm going to jump off a bridge if it keeps crashing on me like this. The worst part about it is that Safari doesn't have a feature that brings your tabs back if your browser crashes. Anywho, I tried reinstalling but I don't think that helped. I also tried clearing everything under preferences but that didn't seem to work. It's the most annoying when I'm watching YouTube videos in full screen and then once the video is over, I get that rainbow ball and next thing you know, Safari crashed. Does anyone know anything else I can do? I don't feel like switching back to Firefox. I love Firefox, but not as much on the Mac. And I think Chrome is just meh, I don't like Google that much since they're involved with almost everything.

OS X :: Temperamental Mail, Keeps Crashing - How To Repair It

Nov 29, 2008

I am using Leopard version 10.5.5 on a Mac Pro and Mail keeps crashing when trying to sync accounts.

I have two MobileMe accounts that sync with the account, and it always crashes while doing a search for new mail.

It was working fine this morning, I then turned my computer off to go to work, the only difference now is that I started my computer up with my iPhone connected. At first I thought that may have been the problem, so I restarted without it.

Now for the actual question; If I can't resolve it, does anyone think that deleting the Preferences file will fix it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac Mail 5.2 Frequent Crashing

Apr 27, 2012

I recently (2 months ago) purchased a new mac book pro and migrated everything from my older mac book pro running Snow Leopard to Lion.Since moving to Lion I have been experiencing frequent crashes of Mac Mail, I spend a large portion of my work day in mail and experience this as many as a dozen times a day. Mac Mail will crash while

1) composing an email,
2) when clicking a link in an email
3) clicking the attachment icon to add an attachment
4) clicking on an attachment that has been sent to me
5) somestimes just trying to exit/close Mac Mail and the it hangs and I have tp force quit. After Mac Mail crashes and is restarted, clicking on the same link or attachment will workI have removed my mail IMAP folder and settings and re-established the connection from scratch but the problem persists.I have ran the disk permissions repair utility and the problem persists. I have ran the verfiy disk utility and it reports no problems.I have ran the Apple hardware tests including the extended tests and no hardware issues are found. Has one experienced somewthing similiar?Does anyone have any suggestions where to start looking for the root cause? All crash reports seem to look [code]

OS X :: New Safari (5.01) Constant Crashing?

Aug 13, 2010

Safari keeps crashing on open (it doesn't even start to open - just goes straight to crash report). It seems to be doing this since I upgraded to 5.01. I have posted the crash report below which is always the same - ie it crashes on thread 3 but I am unable to decipher why.

I repaired the permissions a number of times - and rebooted. This worked once and safari was up an running again. But the next time I came to open it it was broken again. I have even tried a reboot into safe mode which I believe rewrites all permissions rather than just repairing them - didn't work!
