I have a Macbook that has been running slow for the last 2 days.
I scouted the net and ended up finding out I should check my Activity Monitor, which I did. There is a "WD Button Manager" that will flash up for a second and then disappear . It says that it is using 96% of my CPU.
(Does this explain why my mac is slow? Even as I type this there is a delay for a second and then the words appear!)
I think its for a Western Digital external HD I had a while back but I never use now.
So i tried to find the program and did, I tried to drop it in the trash and delete it but it gives me the message, cant trash because it is open.
But I cant open it when I click on the icon, it opens omnioutliner? (no idea what this program does!)
I know this is Windows-esque, but is there a way when you only have one window up of closing that application by clicking on the red cross, instead of the window closing but the application is still open? I do find it irritating that I have to - Q all the time and I can't even - W on the last window to close the application.
If you know what I'm talking about, is there a way of doing this?
What is button manager. I keep getting crashes logged in my MBP noticing after 10.5.2
Feb 14 00:16:56 macbook-pro ReportCrash[129]: Formulating crash report for process CNQL2404_ButtonManager.app[99] Feb 14 00:16:56 -macbook-pro ReportCrash[129]: Saved crashreport to /Users/me/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/CNQL2404_ButtonManager.app_2008-02-14-001655 -macbook-pro.crash using uid: 501 gid: 20, euid: 501 egid: 20 Feb 14 00:16:56 -macbook-pro com.apple.launchd[67] ([0x0-0xe00e].CNQL2404_ButtonManager[99]): Exited abnormally: Bus error
I am looking for a mac program that can act both as a database (similar to an excel) and a document manager (where i can put all my important documents).
I have installed a cracked final cut pro 7, when i run it, it is very slow and after closing the program, my mac runs very slow. but once i restart my mac its fine until i launch Final cut pro again. its obvious that its my mac that is set up wrong or a other problem but i dont think its the cracked program.
The following is rather convoluted but I don't know how to explain my rather odd problem adequately in a simpler way.
So I chose this mouse largely because it have the programable buttons, and I programed the two buttons on the side by my thumb to be the command button, so I can therefore open things in a new tab when surfing the wet without having to have a hand on the key board the whole time.
Here's where the problem arises.
It has the ability to program to keys to the one button. i.e. command and s (with this combo you can quickly save things).
I don't want the second button programed, so I left it blank, but now whenever I click the button the whole page I'm viewing gets highlighted for some reason. If I click the link I wanted, it opens in a new tab, no hassle. The the original tab is highlighted blue, and I then have to a regular mouse click to get rid of it.
Now I know it's not much to do a regular mouse click, but I shouldn't have to. Also it's distracting having the whole page turn blue every-time.
I have just shipped my Mac Mini to its new home and I've had reports that the panic error is appearing on boot up: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart Button." This screen appears on the blue window just after the grey apple screen has disappeared and does not get as far as the desktop at the same point each time. We have tried to reinstall mac OS from the original install disk but holding the "C" Key or the "Option" Key down on restart doesn't boot from disc. Is there a way you can view the Kernel Panic log before you boot into Mac OS so we can try and pin point the source of this problem. I'm wondering if this could have been the result of the shipping that has caused some hardware to come loose.
I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.
I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.
I want to capture selections on my screen and add comments. Is there a program out there that will allow me to do that? I don't like the "grab it" program because it saves the captured file in a Tiff format instead of a Jpeg format.
I've just purchased a Mac from my friends friend (via eBay) and it's an awesome machine. It's not the latest MacBook and cost me 466, the OS is Version 10.6.3, 2GHz, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 and an Intel graphics accelerator.
I was just wondering, when I load up for example Firefox and close it using the X at the top left, it appears to be closed, but upon right clicking Firefox icon I get the menu and it says 'Quit', I thought once you close an application using the X (like Windows) it closes the instance of that application
Anybody have an opinion as to a good password manager for osx? I'm looking for something simple that'll keep track of various accounts and passwords for me. I've been doing it with pen and paper for a while but there must be something out there - maybe even a widget? I guess I'd like it to have some degree of security (a password for the password manager - how do I remember that one) so maybe a widget doesn't work. A small app then - preferably freeware.
I ran clean my mac for the first time a couple days ago. ever since then I have been noticing that random apps won't open. I've only found 3 so far but it's a big problem. they are transmission, pixelmator, and activity monitor. now transmission and pixelmator I can redownload but how do I get activity monitor again.
Ok, so I've posted about this problem several times before, but I now stumbled (again) on this thread: [URL]
There seems to be a solution, but I have no idea how to remove this (I do have an external WD HDD). I just don't find anything related to Western Digital.
I let a friend use my computer and was wondering if there is anyway to determine what files she may have uploaded using her own AOL account on my machine. Is there any upload file record or upload manager that can detect all uploads? Is there some sort of MAC OS Up-Load Manager that can show all uploads regardless of what account was used to perform the upload? This might be a Safari question I suppose?
Love OS X and Safari. Can't stand the constant "Are you sure you want to close this tab" message that always pops up when closing tabs with forms.
Finally found a way to get rid of this. Type the following into Terminal:
/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugConfirmTossingUnsubmittedFormText -boolean No
Thought I'd pass this along; I searched here and haven't found this tip posted. This probably belongs in the OS X forum, but hey, I never look there and would guess many of you here don't either.
Is there a way to close all but the active windows in Mac apps (I'm running 10.6.5). I often end up having 10 Safari screens open and it would be great to be able to close all but the current one I'm looking at.
I have the both the bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I've tried pressing the power button on my Macbook and then closing it immediately, this doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to wake it by click on my mouse and tapping on my keyboard. Does this only work on usb wired keyboard/mice? Is there a trick to this?
I noticed that iPhoto and iMovie are setup so when I click on the red button to close the app it actually exits the entire program. Is there a global setting that I can turn on so I can do this in any app? I actually like this a lot more than keeping the programs running.
Sometimes with expose I find that I have fifteen windows/browsers open, and want to close a bunch of them. So far I've been selecting each one individually to bring it up, then closing it, then going back into expose to get the next one and do the same. Is there anyway I can just close windows while viewing them in expose without having to select them and exit expose?
My internet keeps on closing when I upload most pages. it's not the internet company because my friend brought his laptop over, which is a windows and the internet stayed open.
I've been trying to use safari but it closes on me everytime i run the application and everytime it closes it always says "the application safari quit unexpectedly. the problem may have bene caused by the ct_plugins plug in." what do i do to fix this? I'm also using Mac OS X software 10.5.8
