OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Application Finder Can't Be Opened
Tried to turn off computer and it kept prompting me to force quite various applications. I have since restarted the computer but now am getting this error when trying to open Finder. I have looked through several discussions and unfortunately am not an apple expert so much of what I am reading is foreign to me.I have opened the Terminal and entered a prompt that made all of my desktop docs and finder visable, but as soon as I closed out the Terminal it all disappeared again. Can anyone point me in the right direction - step by step - to get Finder back up and running. To my knowledge all other applications seem to be working as normal.FYI I do have a few extermal items attached to the Mac. (1) extermanl hard drive for the Time Machine, and USB drive.

Mac Pro :: Can't See Date And Time When Safari Is Opened?
Ok so if I have everything closed I can see the date and time on the upper right and everything else like normal.  If I open up any other program like itunes I can see the date and time like normal.  However as soon as I open up safari the date and time disapears.  If I switch between safari and any open program like itunes the time reappears.  Same thing if I have safari open and click on the desktop it brings up finder and the time shows again.  Not sure if this has anything to do with it but when Im in safari I cant open any of the menus on top (file, edit, view, history, etc.).  Ive tried clicking on them and using the shortcut keys and nothing works.  I can still use safari fine other than that.  This all started after the last system update I had a few days ago.  Ive triend resetting my computer and shutting it down but nothing seems to help.

OS X Leopard :: Address Book Application Crashes When Opened
So I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple Support trying to fix my Address Book problem without doing an Archive and Install (I didn't want to lose two hours). The problem is a missing folder in your system called "YahooSync.framework" It's an Apple file that I think some application (maybe even Yahoo) on install removes and breaks Address Book. Here's the problem:
1. Open Address Book
2. Address Book asks you to relaunch, report, or close
3. If you click relaunch, Address Book asks you again to relaunch, report, or close
4. Now you have the option to Reset and Relaunch (which also does not fix the problem).

If you click on Report a problem and scroll down to the bottom you should see something similar to this (locations may be different but you should notice the missing "YahooSync" folder)
"Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/YahooSync.framework/Versions/A/YahooSync
Referenced from: /Users/(Your user name)/Applications/Address Book
Reason: image not found"

Here is the solution (first make sure that the bottom of your crash report looks like mine.)
1. First check to make sure you don't have the YahooSync folder by going to Macintosh HD->System->PrivateFrameworks-> (there should be no folder named "YahooSync.framework)
2. If you don't have that folder you can donwload it here: [URL] or ask someone who has a 10.5 (any 10.5 will do, 10.4 will-NOT- do) to right-click (control-click) and compress the file. This will put it a compressed folder their desktop and ask them to send it to you.
3. Copy the folder to Macintosh HD->System->PrivateFrameworks. You should drop this folder into the PrivateFrameworks folder within system. Note: you will need to authenticate and be an admin to do this. If you re-open AddressBook it should work!

Snow Leopard :: New Launched Application Staying Behind All Opened?
Since 10.6 I've noticed a new thing and that is that when I work in one app och then start another, in 10.5 the app showed up in front of other apps but in 10.6 every new app that I start stays behind all other apps and I have to click on the Dock icon i order to bring it up? This is a bit annoying and I wonder if I can change this somewhere? Cant find anything on this subject and I have this "problem" on all of my Macs so its not a single computer problem.

ITunes Mac :: Window Moves And Shrinks When Application Opened
When I open iTunes I have the window sized to pretty much fill my screen. If I close the window and then reopen it, the new iTunes window is shrunk to about 1/4 of the screen, and moved to a new location on the screen. This happens when I go from mini-player back to full-size as well. This is the only window that doesn't seem to remember its size and location, and it's been going on for several weeks now. I had hoped that the latest iTunes update might fix it, but no luck. I can resize the window manually, but it's annoying that I have to resize it every time I open it. Why doesn't iTunes remember its window size and location? I am not switching screen resolution or plugging into external monitors.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Application Switches Spaces When Opened From Finder
I am using Lion 10.7 , I assigned dreamweaver to desktop1 by choose Options > This Desktop when in desktop1. Then relaunch DW and it correctly opened in desktop 1. Now if i open a file using in finder (which is itself assigned to desktop3) on a file that is default to DW then Dreamweaver moves itself to Desktop3.

I thought the point was that we could assign different applications to different spaces and they would stay that way. Are we saying that if a file is opened from finder its default application will be moved and set up of spaces does not apply ?.

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Application Finder Cannot Be Opened On New XServe
I just installed a brand new XServe out of the box and immediately installed all the software updates, incl. 10.6.4, etc. Also, there's a new LaCie 12Big 12TB RAID installed and updated. I always restart everything afterwards too, and repeat the process until no more available updates show up. All seemed to test and run OK, to begin with. Then, I started copying over the 6TB of jobs data, from our old server & Apple RAID to the new Xserve & LaCie RAID (via a direct FireWire link between the two servers). As the copying should take most of the weekend to complete, I started it and left the office for the w/e, with about 100GB already copied over by the time I left. I work mostly from home and control the server via a VNC viewer, but of course can't do hard restarts (which is compounding the problem bigtime for me).

When I got home and connected in, the copying had hung at about 150GB, on the old and new servers. Couldn't cleanly stop the copying on either machine. So, I 'relaunched' the Finder on the new server. Attempting to re-open the finder now results in the -10810 error, "The application Finder can't be opened". I daren't attempt a Restart from home because if it does hang the machine, I've no way of reconnecting until someone presses the power button in London (on Monday, and not straightforward at that either!). The same problem is affecting some non-server SL 10.6.4 (and earlier) users too. By trawling through a thread on that forum (didn't realise I wasn't in the server forum at the time) and trying just about everything suggested, I still can't get the Finder back, after hours of trying. So, my first problem is how to get the server to restart either the Finder or itself, from my remote connection.

I can access the Apple menu (if I first open Terminal, which brings up its menu bar, including the Apple). I can also run Terminal commands (and frequently do). Would a Restart issued from either the Apple menu or Terminal get me out of this nightmare, or just lock the server up? Or, what else can I do (apart from make the long journey to press the button)? Don't know if it's any clue here, but it seems whatever commands or apps I try to run that are disk related don't do anything at all, apart from hang (incl. Disk Utility or diskutil commands). Typing df in Terminal does however show my 'mounted' drives info. I had an external Toshiba drive connected via USB at the time, though had been copying files to/from that without issue before this problem arose, and it wasn't being accessed at the time Finder disappeared. Anyway, I was able to unmount that drive with the umount command, but it's apparently made no difference to the current situation.

OS X :: Safari Can't Find Email Application?
Whenever I want to mail a Link to an Internet page, I click on "File" and then choose "mail Link to this page". Mail then opens with the Link included and I then email it to whoever I want. Since yesterday however I noticed that I can no longer do this. Whenever I want to mail a Link I get the following message: "An email message cant be created to send the Link because Safari cant find an email application" I tried a restart of the computer, I reset Safari but nothing helps. The problem persists. I checked with Firefox and here I have no problem to mail Links. Only Safari does not seem to be able to recognize that Mail is installed or cannot connect to Mail?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mac Safari :: Firefox Starting Up - Application Don't Respond
I have a MacBook Unibody, predecessor of the MacBook Pro, and I use both Firefox and Safari, but mostly Firefox. Many times, especially after my computer has been awakened from sleep, when I open Firefox or Safari, the icons bounce around in the dock and don't open--the applications just don't respond. Usually this only happens with Firefox--it actually only happened once with Safari. The reason it happened with Safari is because I tried Firefox first, and when it didn't respond I tried Safari, and then it didn't respond. This morning I tried to open Firefox, after my computer had been asleep all night, and it did not respond and the icon just kept bouncing in the dock, so then I thought I would try Safari, but I didn't get the chance, because when I clicked on finder, it froze up, too. I tried relaunching it--didn't work. I always try to relaunch or force quit the application when it doesn't respond in these cases. Some times it works, like with Firefox, but then, after I wait a few seconds and then try and re-open it, it doesn't respond, and won't force quit again. It appears that when Firefox doesn't respond in these instances, it's like a bug that can spread to other applications (Safari), even ones that don't need to connect to the internet. Is anybody else having this type of issue?

Mac Safari :: Cannot Use Even With One Tab Opened
I have been having problems with Safari for over a year now; it worked fine when I bought my Macbook back in 2008, but after a year or so, I started having issues with tabs. I would open a new tab, and when I would type or paste in an address, it would ignore the new tab and start browsing in the original tab I had come from, leaving the new one on the blank page. It got to the point where I couldn't even use the single tab it opened with, so I just stopped using safari. Recently I have needed some of its features that Chrome doesn't offer, so I downloaded the latest Safari, but now, when I start it up, it will not open a window. I have to go to history and select an item from 2009 I had gone to, but as soon as it attempts to load the page, Safari quits unexpectedly.

I notice that Mail crashes when receiving mail if Safari 4 is open. So far I have only noticed this when Safari is already open and Mail is being initiated afterwords. I no longer have the report in front of me but I should be able generate another one and post the contents here later. I am going to test it a little more to see what other characteristics the bug(s) may have (such as if I have Mail open already and start up Safari after if Mail will crash).

Has anybody been having problems with Safari's new Top Sites feature? I've had Safari 4 since the day it came out on public beta, and this feature hasn't seemed to get any better. I seriously dread having to open a new tab, because it automatically opens the awful top sites list. I close my eyes and cross my fingers and pray that I don't get the beachball of death for anywhere from 10-20 seconds. Sometimes it works quickly, especially if I keep testing it over and over. It pretty much just displays a visual of the bookmarks that I already have displayed going across the top of my screen, and I usually just click on the bookmark instead of having to hunt down the page and click on it.
