OS X :: Text Edit For HTML Not Working After Upgrade

Mar 11, 2010

I recently upgraded from a G5 dual 2.0 (OS 10.4.11) to a new mac mini (OS 10.6.2). I have a website that I maintain after getting a pro to set it up for me many years ago. Basically, I would change the text and images as needed using Simpletext. Yes, doing everything in Classic. Now, I recently made some changes using Textedit, saving as an html. I uploaded using Fetch (5.5) and the page displays only the html and not a web page. I tried doing the same thing in MS Word with the same result.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Text Edit For HTML Editor?

May 2, 2012

I'm using Text Edit in plain text format as a html editor. I get an error when I try and edit using Transmit, when I try to save, Transmit says: The documents "doc-name.php" could not be saved. Text encoding Western (ISO Latin 1) isn't applicable. If possible, select a different text encoding. I cut/paste from text edit into the Transmit file and it doesn't work.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Opening HTML In Text-edit?

Jun 27, 2012

I'm trying to edit html files in text edit. Every time I open one it warns me that this file I wrote is an application I downloaded from the internet ("index.shtml" is a web application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"). Except it is just a txt file I wrote. This is driving me mad because it doesn't remember that I've approved individual files. Every time I open the same index.html file it warns me. I tried running defaults write com.apple.LaunchServices LSQuarantine -bool NO

Applications :: Pages (iWork) - Finding Keyboard Shortcut To Edit Cell Contents?

Jan 8, 2008

In iWork 08's Pages application, I need a keyboard shortcut to edit the cell contents. Example: current cell contains the text "new client" -- I decide I want it to read "new clients" without typing it all over again. In Excel for Windows, I would hit F2, that would give me a cursor at the end of the word "client" and I was good to go.

Safari :: Reader Not Displaying Some HTML Tags?

Feb 27, 2012

I'm wondering why some websites when turned to the "Reader" option in Safari, some html characteristics are missing. One that I noticed was the <hr> tag that creates an horizontal line across an html page. Is that a normal thing for Reader to do? Can it be forced to display that somehow?

OS X :: Local HTML / CSS Files Display Wrong

May 17, 2009

I have a CSS file that displays a repeated background. Only problem is, when I open the HTML file(linked with the CSS file to display the background) it doesn't show the background. This only happens when I'm opening the HTML file that is on my computer(local). I uploaded the exact same HTML/CSS files, and the needed images to my web server, then go to the link in my web browser and it displays 100% correct. So I know I haven't done anything wrong, coding wise. I have tried to open the local HTML/CSS files in multiple browsers(Opera, FireFox, Safari), and they all do the exact same thing. They display everything else correct, except there is never a background image. I am using a Mac Pro, with Leopard 10.5.7. Any ideas? Tell me if you need something more explained, or more details.

Applications :: Open HTML Files In IWeb?

Nov 26, 2009

I have a group of students who want to use iWeb to create a website to show off some of their art work for university interviews. They have been creating the site and saving it before logging off a machine. They have been wanting to do more work on their websites, but have found no sign of the pages they created when they log into a machine and load up iWeb. Initially I thought it was because they were logging in on a machine different to the one that they had started creating the site on, so I got them to log onto the original machine, but still nothing. I then got them to export the files to HTML and then to re-open them in iWeb, but it won't let you do that. Any suggestions on how I may solve this problem? The students have network accounts, rather than stand-alone machines that they work on, so I know it's something to do with that.

Software :: See Local HTML Files On Browser?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm new to a Mac and although I love the mac, I'm having a few issues that I simply can't figure out. trying to create a website locally that eventually I'll FTP to a live site. On the Mac I am using Safari and Firefox. When I bring up the .html file all I see is the code in those browsers. That same code on my pc brings up the website in Safari, Firefox or IE so it's not the code. I'm seeing things about a local server but don't know if that applies to me or not. In the address bar of the browser it says file:///Users/myusername/Documents/Website/TestSite.html where myusername is my actual User Name. I've also now checked web sharing and followed the directions on viewing webpages you put in your Sites folder (which is where I have overwritten the index.html file that came with the Mac) and now that doesn't work either. I'm getting a little frustrated. I'm sure this is a low level question, but I've never used a mac before so this is all new to me.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Does Spotlight Search HTML Files?

Jun 29, 2014

I have a folder full of HTML files I just imported to my MacBook about a week ago. They have been backed up by my Time Capsule. But when I search for keywords in the contents of them, they do not show up. The file names will show up, but none of the contents (which are mainly text). I have tried to force Spotlight to search only the folder that contains the files, but it does not seem to be searching the HTML files.

Are HTML file contents excluded from Spotlight searches? I seem to have a number of webpages that come in Spotlight for keyword searches that appear to be the result of searching the file contents. So is there a trick to this? Is there some way I can force Spotlight to index this folder? Just not sure why it seems to search the contents of some HTML files and not others.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Folder Not Showing All Contents (but Contents Are In Fact There)

Mar 12, 2012

I'm running Lion on an 27" iMac (first i7 iteration), and have a folder on an external HDD that contains a couple of hundred subfolders.

However - when viewing them in Finder, only the first hundred or so display.

The others are there - searching the disc finds the folders and their contents and, once, the contents are located, they'll display in the expanded view.

I copied the offending folder across to the Mac's main HD, but this behaviour came across with it.  This, by the way, was happening on Snow Leopard too before I upgraded to Lion.

Safari :: Mail Link/Mail Contents Giving Error - "Safari Can't Create An Email Message Because Google Chrome.app Doesn't Support"?

Apr 5, 2012

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Migration Assistant - Data/content Files Isn't Recognizing The Old, Original Contents?

Mar 13, 2012

I had an Imac running Snow Leopard... I mistakenly(?) thought i could change Permissions by selecting "Everyone" from the startup volume HD icon's Permissions panel and in turn, chose "Apply to All Enclosed Files and Folders" option thinking this would allow all other computers on a small office network to have total free and clear no-security-required, file-sharing read/write- access to this Imac's contents. After doing this and attempting reboot, I couldn't get access to the OS  at all even after i ran DiskWarrior and DiskUtilities, so, wound up doing Archive/Install - but used an OS 10.5 disk because i (mistakenly)thought that my 10.6 Snow Leopard disk was only an Updater.  So after installing 10.5 again I ran the OS 10.63 disk's installer, bringing the new System Folder up to Snow Leopard. I'm up and running - most system software updates downloaded/done.  Problem is now this --  stuff like:  Email Clients,  Itunes, Browsers, any Apps  that had associated data/content files isn't recognizing the old, original contents that belonged to them - instead, these apps all
