As stated in the title, when I try to download a file from the internet, clicking on the link associated to the file will not start a download, but instead opens a new tab in my browser showing the url of the associated file. If I then right-click and choose 'Download linked file as...' the file can be downloaded with no issues in most of the cases, at least as long as the website allows right-click downloads to happen.I have tried resetting Safari, emptying the cache and, of course, updating my software. It is a midly annoying problem, but it doesn't happen when I use other web browsers in my iMac.

I am unable to open .pdf files in my Safari browser or in my Firefox browser. Firefox crashes completely. Safari just gives me a blank page. I'm unable to click on .pdf files online and view them.

I guess it's a change with Snow Leopard, but now when I download a .nzb file and try to open it I get the warning message that it's 'an unknown application downloaded from the Internet' (which, of course, it is not) and I have to manually open that. A .nzb file is not an app, but an executable file (launches NZB Drop, for me). The fact is I don't think I've ever had the message fire and not want to open it. I'd prefer to just disable it all together.
Why when I open an app (i.e. Word) some of the files I previously worked on also load/open? How do I prevent this from happening?

I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!
When I open Safari 5.1.5, it automatically opens all the pages from my previous session. Can I turn off that feature , and how?

Running OS X (10.9.3) and Safari 7.0.4. Can't print pdf files from Safari and sometimes can't download them either (error says they are corrupted) but I can download from a windows laptop. I found something online about disabling a pdf plug-in, but it was for Lion, so not sure if it's still the correct fix. Also, how to uninstall a plug-in unless you provide exact locations of where the plug-ins are stored.

I am running Safari 5.1.4 on a Lion MacBook Pro (latest version of Lion), but for some reason it won't play mp3 files - it always ends up downloading them. However, if I try the same web page with the same mp3 files on, say, Chrome, they play just fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am unable to open PDF files. All I get is a blank black screen. I now download PDFs into my computer from the internet (with mixed success), which is several steps more than has ever taken me in the past. Since finding this problem I have updated the Adobe Reader and run system updates today, to no avail. Adobe reports that there is a compatibility issue between Safari 5.1 and Adobe Reader. They offer several solutions none of which has worked for me. [URL]. Is updating Safari going to work for me, or are there other solutions?

I cannot open PDF files through Safari. I've read some of the other comments on the same/similar issue and I have tried those steps and have been unsuccessful. I still cannot view PDF files through Safari, in fact, the Preview doesn't even open. When it worked the preview icon would pop up in the tool bar at the bottom of my Mac Book, but it no longer does that. Here is what I've tried; Upgrading my Adobe, even though I know you don't need it for Mac. Removed Adobe from applications and deleted. Went to Library and internet plug ins and there is nothing in that folder. Went to internet preferences and un clicked enable plug ins.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMost programs in OS X stay open when you close them (when you click the red X button) unless you specifically close them from the dock. I think Safari 3 used to have this functionality but now when I close Safari, it "quits" as in all my open tabs are closed. However Safari stays open.

If I quit Safari with a single or multiple pages open, the next time I open Safari all the pages come back, the pages that were open when I quit the application.Even though in preferences I have a homepage selected it doesn't seem to matter.
