Quicktime 7 Repeatedly Crashing After Several Reinstalls
Mar 12, 2012
I am having some serious issues with QT 7. It was originally working, then I added a number of new codecs/ plugins to the Library/Quicktime directory. These were taken from a friends mac whose QT7 was working fine. Then quicktime began not to work even after repairing disk permissions.I decided to totally remove QT 7 using AppCleaner, then repaired disk permissions again and reinstalled QT7.Now everytime I run QT7 it crashes after a second or so.I am fairly mac savvy and am capable of using terminal if needs be. My Maverick is repeatedly crashing on eclipse process..I have IBM Notes installed with the latest Service Packs installed so I am not able to understand why are there so many crashes...I thought Mac was a better system that Windows...

I currently have about 8 iMacs in our lab on OS X 10.5.8 with all of their updates. When attempted to reach an SMB share on a Windows 2008 server by way of smb://10.x.x.x each mac starts to error. It reaches the server and asks for their login, but after the correct info is inputted the mac starts to act up. The apple menu disappears and so does every icon on the desktop. The finder navigator becomes inaccessible and you aren't really able to do anything until the computer is forced to shut down by holding down the power button. I turned on Activity Monitor and then tried to connect to a server and saw that the processes Finder and ReportCrash both appear and then disappear about every 15 seconds or less. Over and over again with no popup reporting the crash to the user.
Mac is running latest OSX Mavericks software.... But lately, my Mac is crashing repeatedly when I attempt to use iTunes or iBooks, both also the latest releases. Syncing with either iTunes or iBooks is nearly impossible. No disk repair or verification errors. I am thinking that there is some rogue software glitch that has me. I am thinking that I need to do a factory reset followed by a time machine data recovery.Â
Whenever I try to view cylindrical panoramas with Quicktime (7) for some reason it crashes... I have downloaded the latest of Quicktime 7 for my O.S. at [URL] but the problem remains...
I appear to be having an identical issue to someone else who posted the following in the "race to dump the 4870 rom" thread, which I will quote below: Quote: Originally Posted by v0n I'm actually having small, odd problem since update to 10.5.7 - whenever monitor goes to sleep, any open application application using QE/CI - be it iTunes or Quicktime - crashes with Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at /insert random address/
Happens on both of my patched ROM'ed 4780's. Can be tested ad infinitum by opening quicktime, playing few seconds of any video, pausing it, then setting "Put monitor to sleep" to 1 minute in Energy Saver and waiting one minute. As soon as my monitor is fully off and I wake it up I get crash report.................
Quicktime and iTunes have been crashing just randomly. Sometimes straight away on startup and it takes 4 crashes to actually stay open, other times it's fine straight away. I've done tested the Machines RAM with Memtest and Rember, pulled it out and put them in different slots and put the RAM back down to 2GB. Deleted all the preferences, new accounts, repair permissions, all the usual stuff.
In the end I just got the ***** so reinstalled the whole OS onto a different hard drive. Fresh install, latest updates, and does it again with Quicktime and iTunes. It never really seems to affect any other programs. (I did get Adium crash today, but that's very very rare)
Preamble: My Quad 2.8 Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) repeatedly would not wake up from sleep. Apple Care had me reset the PRAM and maybe a couple of other things..(heck it was a couple of days ago...) and then they scheduled a repair tech to swap out the Radeon 2600 video card today. My question: If I want to have a back up video card on hand from now on, please advise model. Other than normal word processing, surfing, emailing,I only do basic photo editing with Photoshop Elements, and will be copying my 35 mm slide collection, so I don't need any that fancy, I imagine.
New version just downloaded and has crashed approx 8 to 10 times. So I reloaded the iTunes 10.6 , rebooted and experienced the same behavior. Trashed the new version, so now I have no iTunes. Don't see any opportunity to reload older version except by doing a total system reload (Snow Leopard). No, I don't have Time Machine, I had one of those crummy AirPorts with 500GB HD, but it died due to complete lack of cooling (another subject, sorry). What a totally crap design that was.
Just 2 days again I purchased a new imac from the apple store and installed my apple apps. After shutting down the system overnight and back on the next morning it became slow to boot and then requested I reboot again.Once up and operating I opened Aperture and within 3 minutes it told me I had to reboot again. This continues through anything that I do.
I am unable to install Windows XP using Boot Camp Assistant. On multiple attempts, the install process crashes in the middle with an error message that reads:
Press any key to boot from CD .. Disk Error Press any key to restart
i am a teacher in a school where we have been told that every student must shut down each MacBook or iMac when finished. It is not unusual for 6-8 classes a day to do this. I have said putting the MacBooks to sleep would be better for them. Some of the laptops are taking 5 minutes to restart. Can't find data from Apple to support my concerns.
My iBook g4 has started to producing a grayed out screen and a message saying I need to hold down the power button to restart. I have all my documents backed up so the first thing I did was a clean install of Leopard. That has not stopped the problem. I have copied the info from the log the computer would like to send to Apple. Can anyone tell me what it means?

I bought an Ibook G3 two weeks ago. Its got mac 10.4.11 on it. Its processor is 600 mhz, and its memory is 192 mb sdram. It worked fine when I got it. Basically it keeps freezing repeatedly, and nothing unfreezes it. When I do command option, escape. it either does nothing, or the screen goes completely haywire. Then sometimes when I restart it, the screen is completely black, and I have to restart it over and over again until the screen comes up again. Sometimes when it is running the screen goes haywire (meaning all of the colors turn into lines) and then it goes away. I know the battery is weakening and is about to go, but all this happens with or without the battery. I also tried removing all power sources and holding the power button for 60 seconds but that didn't work either.
So I called the company that sold it to me, and they told me I need to restore it and buy a disc of that version of mac. They said I must have downloaded something that didn't agree with it. But could that really make the screen go black? I really need a second opinion before I go ordering anything. Bc if I do, by the time I get the disc it will probably be too late to return it if it doesnt work. I have tried to get anything that I have downloaded removed, and it is still freezing. Is there any way to get straight to everything I have downloaded and trash it all without having to order the disc? I mean I've only had it two weeks. Most of the things I downloaded were from the apple website.
This has happened to my laptop once before and I had to replace my hard drive. First of all I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 with Safari 4.1.3. Basically I'll just be online, using Safari and suddenly it "quits unexpectedly." There's no one thing that I do that makes this happen either. The same thing was happening a while back and it began happening more an more frequently until my computer wasn't running and I had to replace my hard drive. Now its happening again!
I cannot login into the iTunes-Store or iTunes-Account on my MacBook Pro. The following problem occures:
1) I type in the correct Apple-ID and password,
2) my Apple-ID appears in the left corner in iTunes - but nevertheless:
3) iTunes repeatedly asks for my password - again and again. I am absolutely sure that I typed in the correct password, because I also use the same Apple-ID + password on my iMac and everything is fine on the iMac (but not on my MacBook Pro).Â
Additional information:My girlfriend and me use the same mac + itunes to log in with each our Apple-IDs: The same problem for her on my MacBook. I already reinstalled the newest iTunes Version from apple.comOn my iMac everything works fine (with both accounts).Â
I have tried to send a mail via my account with German t-online-Mail, size abt. 5 MB, this mail is sent repeatedly and not saved in the file sent. My iMac keeps sending this mail as it seems for ever.
I'm running a new iMac with OS X Lion 10.7.4. Whenever I open the application Preview, it goes to fullscreen and stops responding (presenting the rainbow wheel) for a number of minutes. This happens everytime the scanner scans a file and opens in on Preview, and oftentimes when the application is opened normally. It takes about 5-10 minutes for it to begin responding after opening it. I know Preview is a relatively lightweight application
I went to boot up my MacBook Pro and during the startup it turned itself off. Before I could try to turn it on again, it was rebooting itself and then instantly turned off. This now happens repeatedly, with the boot up sometimes reaching the grey loading screen and sometimes not, but it continuously shuts down and reboots until I hold down the power button for an extended period of time.Â
I have several HD videos from my Sony NEX-3 camera that will not play very well from within iMovie. They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?

Problem with Time Capsule acting as a router for home Internet connection. It would lose it's WAN IP address after 5-10 minutes, sometimes longer. Rebooting the Time Capsule would fix it temporarily. Also, renewing the DHCP lease for the Time Capsule using the Airport Utility would bring it back instantly. It's a 500 GB Time Capsule and has 7.4.2 firmware. An update check says that that's the latest. I tried a factory settings reset. At first I thought it helped because it lasted more than 20 minutes afterward. But then did the same thing again.
Some background: Time Capsule faithfully did it's duty at another home for extended period of time without any known issues. At old home it was connected to a different cable modem - an RCA I believe. At the new home it's connected to an Arris modem that provides data and voice. For the first three or four hours it worked without issue, then it started losing it's connection (right about the time I was leaving )
The cable company tech had me believing that I had a glitchy Time Capsule. Now I think I have either a: - incompatibility between the Time Capsule and the new Arris Telephony cable modem - network conflict on the cable company's side of things. The Time Capsule was running connected to a different modem at a different address (and account, I believe). - final choice is a glitchy Time Capsule.
(I first wrote this post on 9/30/10, at that time firmware 7.4.2 was current, now 7.5.2 is latest. I'm attempting to recreate the problem now. This happened at a client's home with their setup - I'm now hooking it up as my main router and using the same Arris Telephony modem. It's been running with my Arris Telephony modem on my Internet connection for over twelve hours without issue).
I just downloaded the 10a380 build of snow leopard, and burned it using disk utility to a DL DVD. The burn completed successfully and the computer recognizes it. Every time I click on Install, it opens the installer and I press continue.. it says "Finding Disks" with a blue progression bar for about 30 seconds, and then exits the installer. I even rebooted the computer, holding down option, and when it gets to the screen with different partitions, the disk ejects itself. I have bootcamp with windows 7 installed if that makes any sort of difference.
I have tried to install Snow Leopard on my Macbook running 10.5.8, but the installation fails every single time. I have verified and repaired both the disk and the disk permissions, reset the PRAM, and removed all external devices from the system. Something of importance, the installation always makes it through the first reset, and then crashes afterwards during the second part of the installation. I am wondering if I should erase the disk, and install Snow Leopard, and then restore from a Time Machine backup, but this would be a last resort method.
I have a 2007/2008 MBP 2.4Ghz running 10.6.2. I was having repeated hard crashes due, I think, to some stupid firefox mods I made a few days ago. Every 1-3 hours, the system would freeze, make that crackly thinking really hard noise, spin the beach ball, and wait for me to hard restart. This happens 3 or 4 times today, and on the last crash, the system hangs on restart. Grey screen, spinning grey circle of circles for 10 or so minutes. I can't wait any longer, so I hard restart again, and again the system hangs indefinitely. Now I start to get a bit worried. I boot from the Snow Leopard install disk and open disk utility. From there, I attempted to verify permissions, but the process hangs with one minute remaining for at least 20 minutes. A crash while trying to repair a crash. Great.
So I hard restart AGAIN, and open disk utility, this time selecting repair disk. The utility detects a few errors, supposedly corrects them, then hangs for about 2 minutes, finally culminating in the hard drive disappearing act. The bar looks complete, but the hard drive is gone from the list! GONE! I can't select it from the sidebar in Disk Utility. It doesn't show up in the Startup Disk menu. The only drive I can access is the dvd drive with the Leopard disk. I opened System Profiler and looked under Serial-ATA, and found the only entry was for an Intel ICH8-M ACHI. I don't remember that being there. It used to be a Matsushita drive. Can't find anything on google, and I want to do whatever I can before giving up hope on all my data. Haven't made a backup in a while.
