I'm running an 8-core 3.2GHz Mac Pro and I'm wondering why Quicktime Pro is only using 30% to 40% of my system's overall CPU power (when I encode video).
Is this just the maximum speed of QT? Is there any way to increase the CPU usage?
I'm trying to backup two .iso files (5.33GB and 5.05GB respectively) from my MacbookPro running Leopard 10.5.2 on to a Westgate external USB drive. When I try to do that it gives me "error code 0" and it fails to create a copy or transfer the file.
Is there a limit on how big files can I transfer through the mac? Is there a way to get around this?
I've tried split, but then how do I concatenate the split files together to get the original? I tried "cat" on .bz2 files and I can't get to replicate the correct original to (when I unzip it the unzipping process stops midway with an error).
I was able to concatenate 2 out of 3 parts of the 5.33GB files and the .iso opens up on diskmount but then when I try to concatenate the 3rd part it compains that the file is too big. So I'm stuck
"Concat" is not recognized by my Mac.
Any help on playing .avi files with quicktime?I have the latest version of Mac OS, and it won't play these files...

I'm planning to start my own internet business, selling bulletin board skins for several different forum software. However, I'm a PC user whilst a quarter of my customers will be using Mac's. I understand that Mac users won't be able to see the files they purchase through my web site as Mac's make certain files invisible. I have read a guide on CNET to make files visible on Mac's [URL], however, the guide is only for Mac users, as I have stated before I am a PC user. My question is, is there a possible way to make visible files for Mac's via a PC? I'm currently using Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a new macbook and I've divided it into two accounts. One account has all my iTunes music but the other is a fresh iTunes with no music.
I've been trying to get access to the music from the other account. It seems like it should be easy as it's already on this computer. I've tried copying the iTunes folder into the public folder and going to the other account and copying it to it but that's not working.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Windows 7 on my mac and when I go to bootcamp and do a partition I get, The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. My disk is not partitioned and it's formatted correctly so i searched and saw that my HDD is like untidy or whatever it is called and it needs defragged. So i get iDeFrag full version and I do not know how to work it. Then I read I should back up a clone of my HDD and then copy it back to my mac, but i have no external hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the last 6 months my Mac has been a nightmare to use. It keeps randomly finding files to Corrupt - usually a purchased itunes file - music, video, podcast, etc. So every time I go and sync my music library it randomly picks a file to corrupt which ends up stopping the sync. This happens when I try and use Time Machine, backup iPhoto, copy my files to an external drive, etc. And I've used disc repair as well. And it'll sync one device fine but then decide it's corrupted on another. It renders my Macbook practically useless if I can't work with my files. I ran disk utility and there's nothing wrong with my HD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just have about 10 folders to backup and have been trying to make a shell script that I can run and backup the folders to my external. Right now I am just using the cp command to: cp -r /folder1 /folder2 /folder3 /backuplocation
I realize this is a very crude way to backup files, and I am wondering if there is a better/more efficient way to do this? Also, is there a way to have the script print it's progress so far? Kind of like a percentage or estimated time left in the terminal window? You are probably wondering why I just don't use a backup program, but I am using this a learning experience, too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?
I cannot get these mp3 files to play in iTunes, or even VLC. But the quickplay features all work; it does work in quicktime!

I have MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3. My .mov files from several years ago will not open and will not play using Quicktime or any other player. They worked 1 year ago, but just tried them today and they all say "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie file." I have not touched them for a year so they haven't changed.

I suspect that this has been asked before, but how do I now play .mov files. I created some movies a few years ago for teaching purposes and need to use them again. However, neither iMovie nor Quicktime seem to recognise/support the .mov format.

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files. Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files. The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work. I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2. These are all files that used to work just fine with QT. Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

I am using QuickTime Broadcaster (1.5.3, running on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) to stream a monthly sales meeting to our employees. The stream is also saved for later viewing. It's this saved stream I'm having issues with. The resulting QuickTime files are very difficult to deal with. QTB automatically closes a file when it gets to 2GB and starts a new one (a little more than four hours of stream, given my present settings). The first of these files will not end cleanly, but instead has a single frame repeated numerous times. Fortunately, QT Pro understands that the video actually ends at the place where these repeated frames begin, so that part is easy enough to edit out.
It's the subsequent files that have the bigger issue. There seems to be some kind of time code problem. When I try to stitch the files together in any app, including MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, or iMovie, things go haywire. For instance, if I copy the entirety of the second file to the clipboard in QT Pro, then paste it onto the end of the first file, QT Pro refuses to update the view in the viewer. Audio plays, but video doesn't. If I try to save this resulting file, I get "The movie contains an incorrect time value."Often, I can cut out the first few seconds of the second file and it pastes OK. However, this does not always work. Anyway, I do not want to lose any time from the presentation. This seems to happen irrespective of the video format that I've selected for streaming. Does anyone have any experience working with these files?
Is it possible to play VOB files on Quicktime? If so, how?
