OS X :: Making Mac Friendly Files Using Windows

Feb 22, 2010

I'm planning to start my own internet business, selling bulletin board skins for several different forum software. However, I'm a PC user whilst a quarter of my customers will be using Mac's. I understand that Mac users won't be able to see the files they purchase through my web site as Mac's make certain files invisible. I have read a guide on CNET to make files visible on Mac's [URL], however, the guide is only for Mac users, as I have stated before I am a PC user. My question is, is there a possible way to make visible files for Mac's via a PC? I'm currently using Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Mac Pro :: Windows XP More Eco Friendly Than Leopard?

Nov 16, 2008

I noticed the other day that when I put my bootcamp installation of Windows XP to sleep it turns off my firwire soundcard, when I put Leopard to sleep it doesn't, the firewire soundcard remains powered up. Surely Leopard should be more eco friendly than Windows XP!! Anyone know why this would be the case? Is there a way of powering down the firewire ports when Leopard sleeps?

Windows On Mac :: Error While Making Partition - Files Cannot Move

Aug 7, 2010

I'm trying to get Windows 7 on my mac and when I go to bootcamp and do a partition I get, The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. My disk is not partitioned and it's formatted correctly so i searched and saw that my HDD is like untidy or whatever it is called and it needs defragged. So i get iDeFrag full version and I do not know how to work it. Then I read I should back up a clone of my HDD and then copy it back to my mac, but i have no external hard drive.

Applications :: Converting Quicktime To Windows Friendly Format

Dec 22, 2009

Does anyone know of any *free* applications that will convert QuickTime video to a Windows friendly format. One of the insurance companies I do work with will not let their adjusters install any other software on their laptops and they are PC's. I frequently send them videos so I will need to convert them. I will pay, if necessary, for a program that will accomplish this but I was hoping there might be something out there that is free.

OS X :: Making Files Accessible To All Accounts On Same Computer

Mar 14, 2009

I've got a new macbook and I've divided it into two accounts. One account has all my iTunes music but the other is a fresh iTunes with no music.

I've been trying to get access to the music from the other account. It seems like it should be easy as it's already on this computer. I've tried copying the iTunes folder into the public folder and going to the other account and copying it to it but that's not working.

MacBook :: Making Transition From Windows To Mac

Apr 4, 2009

I'm new to these forums because I am considering making the switch from HP to Mac. I am sick and tired of having to buy a new computer every 2 years (if I"m lucky) because mine gets a virus or whatever (and I have a virus scan thing). My desktop computer loses the internet ALL THE TIME, but I admit that if I used my laptop, which is at school, then I probably wouldn't lose the signal. what do you like most about your MacBook? Has anyone else made the transition from Windows to Mac. I use Mac sometimes at school, and I find it kind of confusing, haha. I figure it probably just takes some getting used to.

Windows On Mac :: Making Hidden Partition On BootCamp Possible?

So morals aside, is there a way for me to make a hidden partition on bootcamp? Like make it so the only way you can know it's there is if you went to disk utility, or to hold option at start up? I would need to hard it on all accounts of the computer.

Windows On Mac :: XP On IMac - Making Fast Performance

Apr 19, 2010

iMac, late 2006 Generation

XP info:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service pack 3

Computer:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
T7400 @ 2.16GHz
2.16GHz, 2.98 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Leopard info:
Version 10.5.8, same hardware.

I've installed XP via Boot Camp. The internal drive in the mac is 230gb (total), and I allocated 60gb to XP. I formatted the partition to NTFS (not quick), and completed the rest of the setup. I then inserted the Leopard DVD and installed the boot camp drivers. Then I downloaded all available updates for XP, and the only other thing I've installed is Mozilla Firefox. I've also made changes to the system using an optimization guide (link below), and the performance seems to be the same before and after.

[URL] - I've only done as far as number 20.

The performance is very sluggish. It shows most while scrolling. It's not smooth and jitters a lot. On previous installations of XP on this computer, I've run audio software (Pro Tools/Cubase) and the performance is terrible. It can't handle even the simplest of tasks.

On the Mac OSX side of the machine, however, performance is fine. Everything runs smoothly.

As far as I know, the specs of the computer are pretty good. I can't understand why performance wouldn't be up to scratch

So, I'm just wondering if anybody has any ideas on what's going on? Is this normal, or am I missing something? It seems like Windows isn't using the full power of the hardware.

Hardware :: What Printer Brand Is The Most Mac-friendly

Aug 7, 2010

I have experience with 2 Canon printers, 1 Lexmark. None of them did the job well. Canon drivers did not allow to scan, Lexmark had wireless printing issues and some weird hardware error when I had to open it up and take out and take in the cartridges to make it print again.

Now my question, what brand makes MOST Mac friendly drivers and printers themselves? I'm thinking of Brother, but I have no experience with it, and I don't know how well drivers work. Basically I'm after a MFU without fax. Just print/scan/copy functions.

Applications :: Files Corrupted - Making Impossible To Sync / Backup

Oct 30, 2010

For the last 6 months my Mac has been a nightmare to use. It keeps randomly finding files to Corrupt - usually a purchased itunes file - music, video, podcast, etc. So every time I go and sync my music library it randomly picks a file to corrupt which ends up stopping the sync. This happens when I try and use Time Machine, backup iPhoto, copy my files to an external drive, etc. And I've used disc repair as well. And it'll sync one device fine but then decide it's corrupted on another. It renders my Macbook practically useless if I can't work with my files. I ran disk utility and there's nothing wrong with my HD.

OS X :: Making Simple Backup Folders / Files Shell Script?

Oct 13, 2009

I just have about 10 folders to backup and have been trying to make a shell script that I can run and backup the folders to my external. Right now I am just using the cp command to: cp -r /folder1 /folder2 /folder3 /backuplocation

I realize this is a very crude way to backup files, and I am wondering if there is a better/more efficient way to do this? Also, is there a way to have the script print it's progress so far? Kind of like a percentage or estimated time left in the terminal window? You are probably wondering why I just don't use a backup program, but I am using this a learning experience, too.

1. Is there any way I can make the windows partition larger? I want to install a few new games on it
2. If not, how can I delete the windows partition straight up?
3. Once the windows partition is deleted, how can I reinstall windows without upgrading to leopard? Is there any where I can get boot camp assitant still? I still have a burned CD with the Windows Drivers along with my copy of XP w/ SP2.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Making Application Windows Individually Selectable?

Apr 30, 2012

Is there any way to set up Lion so that application windows are individually selectable, and do not trigger the display of all windows for a given application? As a default, when I am working with two word documents open and I select a Firefox window, then return to my primary Word document, the secondary word document appears and covers the Firefox window that I'm working with. I'd like to have the secondary word document stay behind the Firefox window until I need it. I know I could minimize the secondary word doc, but I have a tendancy to forget that minimized windows are open.

I'm working on combining a lot of information from different sources to make a class outline, and I'd love to be able to individually select an application window without triggering the other windows that are open for that application. Is there a way to make this happen in Lion or with a third-party program?
