I have imac 24. There is a small window that popped up and says,"Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media. It may be available from the quicktime components page. Make sure your internet connection is active, then click the continue button to check for the software."The problem is is that I am not trying to use quicktime and nor is it running currently AND when the cursor is over the window it just spins the color pin wheel. This window will not go away. I cannot drag it, close it or press continue on it. I have cleared all cookies, cache and reset safari and nothing works. I restart my computer and it is gone for maybe a few minutes and then it reappears .
I'm trying to work on compiling a "family video" with clips from my siblings. They all use PCs and I'm the only Mac, but they're sending me Mpeg files that I can't open. I get a notification that I need "additional software" in order to open those files and get them working in iMovie.

i'm having trouble with some QT that I try to open. When I open the file, I get this message saying:
"Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from QuickTime Components page. "
I click [Continue] and it takes me to this page, which is a bunch of downloadable QuickTime Components. I don't know which component to download to fix my problem!
I guess there's one more thing that will probably help resolve this problem... I don't see any video just heard audio
Also, I am currently running: QuickTime Pro Version 7.5.5 (249.13)
I selected the Movie Inspector? at "format" the info says: Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, 720 x 486, Millions IMA 4:1, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
My Macbook Pro would not boot into Lion boots into bootcamp no problem, with Lion it tries than the MBP shuts down, so I decided to try and clean install Lion, I tired both with internet recovery and with a bootable DVD I made with the Install.dmg file. Both methods gets to the end where I get an error saying cant install additional components.
I am unable to watch a downloaded show because the required codec isn't available - "QuickTime Player can't open "Shameless.US.S02E01.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.[VTV].avi" because a required codec isn't available."
I did a clean reinstall using a USB, now its saying "the additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found" what do I do? I wiped my whole computer!
I'm trying to do a restore of my lion 10.7.3 over the internet and I'm getting this message. Can't download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X, anyone have any ideas on how to fix this
I have the Windows XP SP1 disk that came with my old computer. I know that OEM disks don't work, but i successfully install Windows onto bootcamp every time i try, and it works perfectly. The only thing is, I can't install the bootcamp drivers which let me access wifi because i don't have sp2. I can't slipstream, because the disk has updates integrated inside of it, and whenever I try to install SP2 from the sp2 install file i dl'd from the microsoft site, it always gives me a "4 additional megabytes required" error. I added 5 gigabytes. and it still has this error.
I've been using Compressor 4 for some time and have been converting .MOV files into >WMV files. When I selected an output source the Quicktime Export Components always showed up at the bottom of the list. I would select it and then be able to START BATCH. Now, it's no longer there. Instead, the word CUSTOM is there, instead, which I can't click on at all.
I've always had and used Flip4Mac and even upgraded but still the option to select Quicktime Export Components is missing entirely. I've rebooted the program and just can't get it back.Â
I'm on a PC, inspiron 1420, and attempting to watch a video in Quicktime. I needed to download the xvid component to Quicktime, and the component is in a .dmg file. I'm unable to open the .dmg file
Since I updated my Mac Air software, I keep getting a message about "additional plug required." Then when I click on download, I get the message that no plug found.
I cant stream quicktime videos in safari. Every time I go to a video for example on apple.com and try to watch an iPod or Mac advert it will just tells me quicktime is required, free download. I've tried downloading quicktime 7 again but then it says that it cannot be installed because quicktime X is already installed, go to software update to install older version. Software update has no updates for me. I'm stuck, has anyone else had this problem?
I do have Quicktime X installed but it still wont let me view the videos.
I did a quick search but couldn't find any info on this.
Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open. 2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?
