I have a 1.33ghz 12inch Powerbook with 768mb of RAM, my battery lasts for about 20 minutes, I am on my 4th ac adapter (and it is already broken again, I so get why they made them magnetic in future laptops). I am running Tiger... everything works just fine except the embarrassing battery life and unpredictable charging (b/c of the semi-broken power adapter).
View 6 RepliesI have had my macbook for just 6 months....at the beginning it was perfect with a very good battery life.Now at 99% charge (as it refuses to finish charge to 100%) It now says 10:00 where the battery time is and last less than 30mins.
Also its charge capacity is JUST 708 !!!!It was over 4000 just 6 months ago.Im sure my battery is on its last legs, anybody know if I am entitled to a free one?

I am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 1st revision Macbook Pro 15" that's about 2 years and a few months old, and all of a sudden the battery will not provide power past approximately 76%. As soon as the the battery displays, 75% or 76% of the charge remaining, the laptop shuts off completely, does not warn me that my battery is low, and does not sleep or save the contents of my RAM - nothing it should be doing. The battery is only at 149 cycles as of today, and I don't have any sort of AppleCare plan. Is this something I can get replaced under a warranty, or would I have to shell out for a new battery? And is it even worth it?
View 12 Replies View Relatedi charge my macbook full and it only ever lasts me up to 2 hours (never more) lately. i got my pro in september and noticed these problems a couple weks ago. the battery also runs loudly and the entire time my mac is on and my mac heats up real quick and hot. should i just bring it in to get it checked out?
i also only ever have a few applications running, the same ones ive always had running. theres no reason i should currently have 1:53 on my mac left at 90% battery.
So I just picked up a powerbook g4 12" 1.5 for a notetaking/work/travel computer, and it's all good, but I had a quick question about the superdrive- aside from needing to reinstall leopard, I don't think I ever need it. this may be a stupid question, but if I take out the superdrive, will that give me more battery life and make the computer lighter?

It has been acting very temperamental during startup where it will not startup at all, the fan will come on but no screen, or it will chime twice (and it's a weird sounding chime) and not startup, or it will freeze after logging in or during the log in stage. I got it to boot up once, but since then... it's dead. It will not startup. A friend tells me it's the internal lithium (PRAM?) battery that needs to be replaced

I've read various consumer reports that laptop batteries these days (regardless of computer brand) only last 2-3 years, so this disappointingly seems to be the norm.A replacement battery from Apple costs quite a bit, so I can't help but think that if I replace the battery cells inside the battery casing myself I could save a bundle. This and this site shows how, but so far I haven't found anything specific concerning the Powerbook G4 battery. Does anyone here have more info on the subject?
By the way, what's the best way to "reset" the battery? My Mac seems to be uncertain of how much power the battery actually has (it might show 45 minutes left, then suddenly turn off) -or maybe this is just a sign of a worn out battery.
Some days ago i finally added a Powerbook g4 to my Mac collection and since then ive been trying to fix this computer without any results. The Powerbook had the battery dead at first and i had to replace it with a new one i had. Now the problem/weird thing is that the computer detects the battery but it doesnt charge. It has about 18% of the charge and when i try to boot up all i hear is like a fan sound and nothing more, no boot up sound and no image on the screen.
If i boot up using the power cable thats when i see the 18% of the battery icon, but as soon as i take out the power cord, the image goes black although the computer still makes sounds as if it was on. Does it have any solution? PS: ive tried to reset the PMU,changed the pRam for a new one, reset the Nvram.
I have and old, but powerful, powerbook g4 667 (gigabit ethernet) with leopard 10.5.2 and runs well, but the battery is crazy:

My Powerbook G4 only turns on if the battery charger is plugged in, and if I unplug it, the computer shuts off. On the menu bar, it says charging. I know the battery has to be full. This just started happening last night. Also, I just had the hard drive replaced and I've only had it back for a couple weeks.

I am constantly having problems with the laptop shutting down when it is just on battery. It doesn't do this if I am plugged into power.
It does this on a random basis whatever program I am running but generally at 80%. I currently have Leopard as the operating system.
I have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4. This morning it was fine. When I got home from work, it decided that it suddenly no longer wants to stay on when not plugged in. The battery is showing a full charge. The light on the plug is green. But the second I unplug the cord from the laptop, the entire thing shuts down.

The battery indicator showed one flickering power circle. The adaptor has the green circle on it, indicating the battery has a full charge. However, the computer won't charge up.I've read the 12 inchers don't have separate PMUs. Could that prevent the machine from starting? I have used my battery a handful of times since I got it, and now when I try to run off of battery power, it says it is fully charged, but after unplugging it, it dies about 3-5 minutes later. I remove the battery after the shut down happens, press to button on the bottom and all five green lights are lit indicating it is full. I really can't afford a new battery... And it doesn't seem like it is the battery anyway.

My MacBook Pro is just under a year old.I don't do a lot of strenuous stuff... just internet, iWork documents, Sims 3, etc.The battery has been fine up until now, but on two seperate occasions it has completely drained in a matter of minutes.On the first occasion I left the MacBook open on my desk.No applications were open, just the desktop. Battery was at 98% after a full night's charge.I come back an hour later to find the computer completely unresponsive until I plug in the charger chord.It had completely drained.On the second occasion I was at 52% battery.I loaded up The Sims 3 and went to take a shower, planning to play when I got out.When I get out of the shower TEN MINUTES later, the computer was dead... once again completely drained.I know the game is a total battery hog, but I can usually get about an hour of gameplay with 52% battery.

Recently retired it to backup computer and did a total erase and instal of the os.. ran great till a few weeks ago when it froze after about 10 minutes of use. Tried it again the next day and got the same thing. I waited a week and then tried it and still...same thing. Unpluged it, hit the power button and waited a day... same thing. Unpluged everying except keyboard and mouse... same thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer, a Powermac G5, Dual 2.0Ghz, 1st Edition Released Oct 2003, will just freeze. It usually happens within 5 minutes of booting into the operating system. I am also unable to boot from the Leopard or Tiger DVD's to try and install a fresh copy of the OS as they freeze during the install. This is what I have tried so far, but to no avail:
Resetting the RAM and Graphics Card
Resetting the Power Management (PMU)
Resetting the PRAM
Now this is the even stranger thing. I installed a copy of PowerPC Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and it works fine. This makes me think that it is unlikely to be a hardware issue.
I got a powerbook G4 with a smashed LCD. I hooked it up to an external monitor, and 1 thing keeps bothering me - it lags like hell. I have had an iBook g3, now using macbook aluminum, and I have never seen anything like this on a mac before. It lags like hell - it turns on in about 20 minutes. Sometimes it even doesn't. I have tried resetting Pram, Vram, premissions repair, looking @ activity monitor(nothing exceeding 2-3%). HDD capacity - about 55% full. I cant even describe whats up with it - launching any app takes about 2-3 minutes. For instance, iTunes launching takes 3,5 minutes and none of the songs are playable. I have tried to create a new account - did not help.
So lets start with system preferences. I have :
1,5ghz PowerPC processor
256mb Ram
Tiger 10.4.11
HDD 80gb Fujitsu MHT2080AT
So at first I though it was the lack of RAM - I bought a 1Gb stick. Now I am thinking it is because of the HDD. But I am not ready to buy another component randomly.
I just obtained an Ibook G4, it was my cousins, and it had crashed, so weeks later he gave up and bought a IMac. Anyway, the Ibook will turn on, boot up like normal. I had it turned on for about 10-15 minutes, and it just powers off. I had it plugged in, and it obtained about 11% battery, so I don't think it dies from battery shortage. Something I did notice, the battery charger cord, from wall to brcik is a 250V wire, while the brick it self needs about 100Volts. It isn't the cord that came with the Ibook. Could this cause the Ibook to shut down?
