MacBook :: Core Duo Max RAM / Install Single 2gb Stick Into Working Slot?

Nov 8, 2010

I have a 2006 Macbook with a "Core Duo" processor. When I got it, one of the RAM slots was busted, so I put a 1gb stick in the working one to add a little speed. My question is, since the maximum RAM in this model macbook is 2gb, would it be possible to install a single 2gb stick into the working slot?

MacBook Pro :: Memory Slot Out Of Order In Core Duo

Aug 31, 2009

About 6 months ago my Core Duo MBP shut off and then rebooted with loud post beeps. Everything is fine since except that it can only run with 1 stick of RAM in the lower slot, with both or just the upper filled it doesn't boot and the optical drive sounds like it cant start. My 1 year warranty is out and missed the 2 year upgrade. Also does anyone know if this model can run 1x 2GB of memory? I used to have 1.5GB (came with 1x 512MB and added 1GB) and now been running with just 1 gig and missing the performance albeit a positive is Snow Leopard is a lot more snappy on 1 gig than Leopard .

PowerPC :: Single 2gb DDR2 Stick With Lower Ram Failure?

Jun 17, 2010

I have a 1.67ghz G4 PowerBook that has the dreaded lower ram slot failure. This limits me to 1gb of ram, though the machine works fine otherwise. My understanding is that this PowerBook does not accept more than 2gb ram..... So, my question is this: Will this PB not accept more than 2gb ram total, or will it simply not accept DDR2 larger than 1gb each, be it one or two??

PowerPC :: Replace Tower G5 Single Core Chip To Dual One?

Jun 23, 2009

Someone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such). The G5 will be used in the near future for HD video editing. Also, I know the new intel mac pro have graphic cards from nvidia and ati. But what graphic cards do the G5 towers have? are they good?

PowerPC :: 20" IMac G5 (1.8ghz Single Core) - Not Booting From DVD?

Jan 18, 2010

I have put a brand new hard drive in the machine. I took off the plastic bezel to the power cord, to make sure it's plugging in all the way. I turned the computer on while watching the LED's on the logic board. All 3 stayed on, and the 4th never came on.

I have unplugged it, left it unplugged for a few minutes, plugged the cord back in while holding the power, then turned it on (forgot what that was supposed to accomplish). No change.

I have reset the PVRAM (or whatever) 3 times in a row by holding command-option-p-r until I heard 3 chimes after the initial boot. No change.

I can get into open firmware, but have no idea what I could even try in there (other than ejecting the DVD).

I hold down "C" while booting, it chimes, it goes to a blank grey background, then proceeds on to the white screen with the apple. It sits there for a few seconds, then starts spinning the circle for a while, then shuts down. I hear the optical drive spin up, but it does nothing.

Is this going to be a hardware issue? I'm sort of gutted, I thought I had a perfect one and now I find something isn't working as it should be.

MacBook :: Install OS With RAM Slot Broken

Feb 8, 2010

I am trying to set up an old macbook as a server and I am having a few problems getting the macbook to perform properly.

I know that one of the RAM slots are broken, should that effect the system if their is no RAM in that slot?

I get the occasional read/write error suggesting that their might be something wrong with the hard drive not sure what to do about that. I have zeroed out the HD twice as I herd that that figures out what memory blocks are still writable but it was of no help.

There is definitely something wrong and I need to test everything to make sure that it's working. I am running memtest as I speak. Is there anything I can do to check the performance of my HD?

The main problem I am having is that if I use software update, or try to install Snow Leopard the macbook reboots and sticks on the blue screen with a mouse. I have to reinstall the OS to get it to work again... this has happened a few times now. This also happens if I install a hardware demanding program such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and reboot.

My MacBook Pro 15' Early 2011 model's SD Card slot stopped working after the 10.7.4 supplemental upgrade. MacBook Pro :: Single-tap-to-select Randomly Stops Working?

Mar 13, 2012

Recently, my MBP's single-tap-to-select stops working, usually after I wake it up from sleep. This happens almost every other day, for the past 2-3 weeks (since 10.7.3 I'm guessing). Double-tap-to-right-click works fine, and keyboard commands all work, but single-tap just doesn't work till I reboot the machine. It's driving me mad. Even plugging in a mouse doesn't help, so it's not a trackpad / hardware issue at all.

OS X V10.7 :: Install Lion From A USB Stick?

I purchase Lion from the App store & set up Lion on my Macbook, on a partition on my Exterior Hard Drive. Also wanted to install Lion on my early 2009 Macmini. I want to install it, on a partition on the Macmini. A clean install of 10.6.8. is on that partition.

Instead of downloading it again, I put the "InstallESD.dmg" on a 16 gig USB stick. I boot into the Mac OSX USB Stick Install, then near the end of the installation, a error message said ''Cant Download the Additional Components Needed to Install Mac OSX''

I have a mid-2007 white MacBook/with 2 GB Ram.Upgraded op system recently all the way to OS.7.3!Is it possible to install 4 GB of Ram---add 2 GB to each slot for a total of 4GB? Performance w/Lion is annoyingly slow. Mac Genius Bar suggested replacing the hard drive....so now I have a and new 160G hard drive. But the Lion is still slower than my attention span can stand! Genius Bar said more RAM would help the performance and speed problem----but advised that this model is not capable of supporting 4 GB.is it? What else can be done? OS X :: Unable To Install Leopard On Powermac G4 Agp Single CPU?

Jul 27, 2010

Okay, I have a power mac g4 sawtooth single CPU. I purchased a leopard install disk for the cheapest I could find without realising that it wasn't supported on this machine officially (I didn't get snow leopard because I knew that it only supported intel). So I inserted the disk (without modifying) and after booting to it got a kernel panic beginning with "the correct driver could not be found for this platform powermac 3,1". I then tried the open firmware hack many times and the same problem occured. I also tried the guide at [URL] many times even with putting in the kexts that the guide told me to if I was getting kernel panics but to no avail. I then managed to borrow my freinds intel mac and installed it to my guid partitioned 16 gb flash drive, I then cloned it to my APM partitioned other hard disk using superduper! and when booting got the same issue, I then put in the relevant kexts from the working tiger install but again to no avail
