PowerPC :: Slow Down IBook G4 1.42Ghz With 1.5GB Of RAM?
Jul 13, 2007I have an iBook G4 1.42Ghz with 1.5GB of RAM. I have noticed lately (past month) that it has been slowing down...A BIG SLOW DOWN. You would think even with 1.5GB of RAM, there should be no slow down, but I guess I was wrong. I did a Hardware test using the install disks and everything is OK. Should I erase my HD and just re-install OS X? If you guys got any other suggestions please let me know.

Nov 26, 2007I have just got an excellent condition eMac 1.42GHz with the Radeon 9600 Card every transition is so smooth! Smoother than my MacBook!
Everything is standard, but it has an Airport Card in it as well which is cool
However, standard also means only 256MB of DDR3200 Memory.
Tiger is installed and everything updated.
Now I am planning to move this thing to Leopard alongside my MacBook. How much RAM shall I get for it? 512MB or 1GB? (bringing it to 768/1.25 respectively) Also what do I need to look out for brand-wise or type wise?

PowerPC :: G4 1.5 GHz 512MB - How Much RAM Can I Add
Jul 26, 2010My g4 has two slots for RAM. One is empty, the other has 512MB. I need to increase the amount of RAM prior to upgrading my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.5 (Leopard). One website states I can upgrade to a max of 2MB, while another states I can only upgrade to a max of 1MB. Which is correct? And, does each slot need the same amount (i.e. 512MB in each for a total of 1MB), or can I keep the current 512MB and install 1MB in the second slot.

May 5, 2007Quick (hopefully!) question: Will RAM from a G4 Powerbook 1.33 GHz (PC2700) work in an iBook G4 1.2 GHz, which normally takes PC2100?
Reason for the question is that I have one of each, and am going to sell the iBook. I'd like to transfer one of the 256 Mb sticks from the PB to the iBook and then replace that stick with a 1 Gb stick.

Aug 16, 2010I saw there is a way to trick Leopard into seeing 867MHz, is there something similar to trick the installer into seeing 512MB of RAM?I know <1GB is not recommended for Leopard, but try to find cheap 512MB PC133 low-density these days, I'm still trying, but I want to install Leopard.I know that one could modify OSInstall.mpkg, but I rather want to do this another way if possible.

Apr 24, 2009I have a white g3 ibook dual usb. I put in a bigger hard drive and can't install tiger which is a cd not dvd that boots fine in my imac. Cd drive will not eject with eject (f12) key or fn f12. I have to pull it open manually. I can reset the nvram by booting into firmware and typing reset all. I can't boot up to a screen with a refresh arrow and a right arrow that I can click on but nothing happens. All I get a start up is a folder with a blinkin face question mark.

Sep 2, 2010This iBook G4 will not boot. I can boot it into safe mode, but that is about it. I have tried resetting the PRAM, to no avail. It cannot even boot off of an OSX disc. When I try to boot it normally, it just shows the Apple symbol, but no progress wheel thing spinning. When I try to boot it normally, it appears as if the hard drive is not being read from/written to, because it is dead silent, but when I boot into safe mode, you can hear the HDD noise. When I booted into safe mode, I checked the HDD's SMART status, and it says "Verified," so I do not think that the HDD is at fault. However, it still has its original HDD from 2004.

May 17, 2006I have a Logitech Mediaplay Mouse that will not work on my iBook: it reads the receiver, but nothing about the mouse works. At first I thought it was because it must use a non-standard driver (and OS X isn't officially supported in the documentation), but after a little experimentation I've found that it works perfectly on my Cube (running Panther), my dad's Powerbook G4 (Tiger), my brother's Sawtooth G4 (Tiger), and every PC I have. My dad and brother don't use USB Overdrive, but the mouse worked perfectly with USB Overdrive on my Cube and it doesn't work on my iBook whether USB Overdrive is installed or not. I have never had any problems with peripherals and my iBook before. I love this mouse, so someone please help me figure how to make it work!

Aug 6, 2006i splashed some theraflu on the right side of the keyboard approximately 3 days ago. as many had mentioned, i removed the keyboard and carefully removed any liquid residue i could find and kept my computer off for a few days. today i went to figure out the damage and everything seems to work okay in terms of the computer turning on and stuff. the keyboard is still acting up though. the left side of the keyboard works mostly okay, but if i press certain letters, the number along with random number appears. the right side of the keyboard, on the other hand, several keys don't even respond at all. from these "symptoms" do you guys think the only thing that i may have to replace is the keyboard or could these "symptoms" i've described be related to some other damage also? how much does replacing a keyboard usually cost? i'm thinking this isn't going to be covered by my warranty. lastly, i've noticed that when i do turn the computer on, it automatically starts in safe-mode.

Jan 20, 2009This very fast and very expensive new video card for my Dual Core Powermac G5 doesn't seem to be speeding anything up for me. Is this because the graphics cards on PM G5's still rely on the CPU or something? It still stutters when I'm playing back certain video online.

Aug 13, 2010I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
PowerPC :: Hard Drive Swapping - IBook G3 And IBook G4
Oct 20, 2006My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

Jul 13, 2008Right now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
