View 10 RepliesI dropped my mac powerbook from a couple of feet and now the backlight wont go on...everything else seems fine just really dark screen...dont know what to do...is that expensive to fix?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt just started getting really hot quickly for about a week before it didn't turn on. I would have it tilted so that its not flat, hoping that it would give it more air but it didn't do anything. I don't even need to do much to get it really hot. And I shut it off every night, so it should get to reset itself. I haven't done anything different that I haven't before. Any fixes please!? Also what's really weird is that it gets hotter and hotter even when it is off and not even plugged in.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSome days ago i finally added a Powerbook g4 to my Mac collection and since then ive been trying to fix this computer without any results. The Powerbook had the battery dead at first and i had to replace it with a new one i had. Now the problem/weird thing is that the computer detects the battery but it doesnt charge. It has about 18% of the charge and when i try to boot up all i hear is like a fan sound and nothing more, no boot up sound and no image on the screen.
If i boot up using the power cable thats when i see the 18% of the battery icon, but as soon as i take out the power cord, the image goes black although the computer still makes sounds as if it was on. Does it have any solution? PS: ive tried to reset the PMU,changed the pRam for a new one, reset the Nvram.
I have a problem...my 12" Powerbook G4 doesn't start up properly at the moment. I turn it on, I can hear the chime, and the screen goes grey but then does nothing...I've tried holding down C while starting up too, but still nothing happens, just the grey screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm pretty sure it does but I just wanted to check that this would work in my 12" 1.5GHz powerbook?
Also does anyone else know of anywhere else cheaper in the UK or have any suggestions/observations at all?
Suddenly the 3,e,d and c keys of my Powerbook won't work. They were working fine earlier today, and I didn't drop the machine, spill anything on the keyboard. Any idea of what may be going on and how to fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a PowerBook G4 that I'm primarily using for audio editing and sound engineering. I would like to get multiple displays going on my laptop to make editing easier. I have heard that the TripleHead2Go won't work with a Powerbook, but I read a blog of someone actually getting it to work. Has anyone gotten this to work, or know anything about this. Here is a link to that blog.

My hard drive died 2 weeks ago.
So i just install a new hard drive and i forgot my superdrive does not work.
all it does is take the restore disk and spits it back out.

i have somewhere a old usb external cdrom but i dont know if i can find or if it will run/work.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI dropped my MBP last Friday and there was a small dent near the magsafe port. It still worked fine until the battery died. After, the battery wouldn't charge anymore and my MBP wouldn't switch on even with the adapter connected. The magsafe light still stayed green though.
I took it to an Apple store and they told me the logic board was damaged and it would cost 45,000 Philippine pesos to replace (around $1,000). That's too much for me. I was wondering if I had any other alternatives, like if I could fix it myself. I feel that the problem's just with the magsafe port area and not the entire board.
Ok so my iMac g3 has a left speaker that doesn't work. The right one works fine and when I turn the volume up the left speaker kind of buzzes. Is it even worth replacing the internal speaker? (IIRC it looks pretty difficult)
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy mom's iBook G3 has recently started doing this thing where its screen goes dark if you bend it back far enough. Right now the furthest I can open it is so it's at a bit over a 90 degree angle, or else it'll go dark. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

My wife dropped her powerbook on the carpeted floor. It fell flat and not on a corner or anything. We did not think it was too bad of a fall. However, the laptop will now not power up. The screen remains dark, no chimes. The hard drive sounds like it wants to power up but doesn't. I suspect it is a hard drive issue, but is there a way to confirm prior to opening it up? I have replaced the drive before so I know I can do it again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently dropped my 4 year old iBook G4 (while it was sleeping) onto a wood table from about a foot up. When I tried restarting it, I kept getting kernel panics. So I completely reinstalled the OS (Leopard). Now I can do most tasks on the computer, but I still get kernel panics on a regular basis. I think there is clearly a hardware issue, although there is apparently NO physical damage to the machine. There is nothing wrong with the hard drive, which is the only mechanical device that could possibly be damaged by a drop, right? Reinstalling Leopard didn't really solve the problem. (I'm looking for an Apple Hardware Test disc to see if that will help diagnose the problem...)
Here are the details for the kernel panic (after I reinstalled 10.5 -- I haven't updated to 10.5.6 yet):

I just noticed while using my Clamshell iBook the other day that the "B" key no longer works on the keyboard. Not sure why all of a sudden it no longer works, but it doesn't. I have tried everything, and no luck.
I guess I want to prolong taking it to Apple as much as I can because of the age of the laptop, I know it won't be cheap to fixand obviously not worth it.
my laptop (macbook pro) doesn't turn on, because the battery doesn't work (may be because of moisture), and the 7 battery lights on the left side are off, and when I plug the charger in, the light on the magnetic socket turns on so dim ..

My powerbook G4 recognizes my IPod cable and printer cable through the USB ports, but won't recognize any USB sticks or card readers.
Any idea what is wrong, and hints for how to fix it?
I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.
